Rockets' Griffin faces felony, second charge

HOUSTON -- Authorities have charged suspended Houston Rockets forward Eddie Griffin with two counts stemming from an alleged confrontation last month in which a woman said he beat her and fired a gun in her direction.

Griffin, 21, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony, and assault with bodily injury, a misdemeanor, Houston police spokesman John Cannon said.

I bet he pleads to a lesser charge of reckless endangerment a D felony, receives no jail time and is placed on probation. Never plays for the Rockets again, signs with another team next season for about $25 Million over 5 years. It's kind of a double standard that Griffin is basically no longer part of the Rockets and Kobe starts every game, both still without a trial or virdict.

Just a guess of the outcome of this.

I hope he isn't done. I haven't seem him play much, but quite often I saw him posting some nice numbers while perousing the boxscores last year.

I know I post a lot, and always seem to have some opinion, sorry about this.

Griffin is probably not done, he's only 21 and will receive special treatment. He will hire a lawyer who has some friends around the courthouse, sometimes in a case like this, the pub and money are so much more important than jurisprudence. A lawyer can get a favor here and give one later and so on. With Griffin being both famous and wealthy he should receieve this type of case treatment.

I got to believe this season is over, but maybe he clears the air in a month and returns to the Rockets, who knows.

I thought about this and I am not sure anymore, I thought at first he would be waived or put on the shelf for the season as inactive.

As far as his NBA Career thus far, one first has to admit that the trade for Griffin, sending Richard Jefferson, Jason Collins and Brandon Armstrong to the Nets, was a serious blunder.

Secondly his game is still very raw and without much consistant play.
Again though he is only 21 and not together in the head, so many people talk about height, weight and position, when those things add up to nothing if a guy doesn't have the mental stability or belief he can play.

The next time someone says "so and so can't play the point or the center, or he's too big or too small, just remember Allen Iverson vs. Shawn Bradley. If you were looking at their sizes, regardless of what position they play and were looking for a basketball player, Bradley would seem like the choice based his 7'6" frame, this is not the best example but it is not the size that matters, it's not the physical skills or jumping ability.
It's all about what you have for basketball knowledge, how you can best use your skills and knowledge to excel, just ask Steve Nash, Earl Boykins or Allen Iverson what they could do if they were in Eddie Griffin's body.

good point, pp. i keep on hearing that griffin has the skills but just not the mentality to be a great player. i remember watching this guy at seton hall make20pt/10reb/3blk performances look so smooth and effortless.

but i don't think he'll be back with the rockets next year. if im not mistaken, he was eligible for a contract extension but didnt get it. i think he's in need of a change of scenery. for sure there will always be a GM willing to take a risk on him.

I don't agree on that.

Kelvin Cato is the starting PF this season and he has been alright.
He is averagin (spl?) 7points, 9rebounds including 3.8 offensive (ranked 4th in the NBA) and 2blocks a game in 31minuts.

Eddie Griffin wasen't posting any better stats last season.

yeah, CATO is a good solid team player that does the dirty work. He is a true center but he is playing very well at PF this season
