They'd have to be crazy to let arguably the best player in the league just walk. At least trade him to Dallas (with Grant if they can) for Michael Finley and Antoine Walker.
I had mentioned a trade like this before, which would be the same trade except not Antoine Walker, but Antawn Jamison, I think even if McGrady is involved, it would not include the Point Forward of Don Nelson's dreams.
Players can just walk away EGarrett, if a team has the cap space, say Portland in 2005/06 when McGrady has a player option on his contract, then they could just sign him and that's it.
Now if Orlando agrees to let McGrady take his option year and trade him, that's something else, but he will be a free agent in 2 years. Which by then Grant Hill could be back and they could have found a winning coach.
It's all a lot of talk, I believe Doc Rivers is the problem, blowing a three to one advantage against Detroit last season in the playoffs should have been his undoing.
How far will the Orlando owners allow John Gabriel and Doc Rivers let their team fall? 1-20? Some say Doc Rivers is a great coach without players and the GM should be fired for bringing in the players that he has.
Take a look at this page and tell me how Golden State has put together 4 wins:
http://www.nba.com/warriors/stats/index.html
Injuries have murdered this team:
Evan Eschmeyer* missed the entire season
Popeye Jones* missed the entire season
Troy Murphy* missed the entire season
Jason Richardson missed 4 games
Nick Van Exel missed 3 games
Mickael Pietrus missed 7 games
Adonal Foyle missed 7 games
Avery Johnson missed 3 games
You go with what you have been dealt each night, do you best coaching job and live with it.
Now maybe Doc Rivers has done this, maybe he hasn't, but he must live with the fact that he
does have Mr. World Tracy McGrady, Juwan Howard, Tyronn Lue, Drew Gooden and Shammond Williams among other young players.
If you saw line-ups like these, who do you believe should win more games?
G-Lue
G-McGrady
F-Gooden
F-Howard
C-Hunter
or
G-Speedy (some nights you may have Van Exel)
G-Richardson (but probably not Richardson as well)
F-Dunleavy
F-Cliff Robinson
C-Dampier
or
G-Van Exel
G-Cheaney
F-Dunleavy
F-Clifford
C-Dampier
I really believe Doc Rivers doesn't know how to motivate his team, nor does he have an answer for getting everyone else involved, he is sort of like Doug Collins in Chicago, but much worse, because his supporting cast is not as good, and Tracy McGrady is no Michael Jordan.
