Here's an article about E3 impressions of NBA Live '09.

Nice read. I still wanna know, if I edit attributes in 09, will that RESET if I update my game on a regular basis? Or is it something totally separate?

Wed Jul 16, 2008 4:18 am

I think that you will be able to keep your attributes even if you regularly update your game.

I think that your edited attributes would be kept separate from the regular updates of NBA Live 365.

I'm not entirely sure on that, but I wonder if Andrew or someone has a definite answer.

I hope that you can do that, though.

Yeah, cause last year when I did Roster updates for 2k8, those guys messed up my setting and sliders and everything. I was PISSED. I'm not into the online thing yet, but I plan on doing it this year, but only if this doesn't effect my attributes, cause that takes a long time to do

Thanks for the link, I've posted it in the news giving you credit. :)

If you're making your own edits they can be saved along with the other changes you make to a roster. You can choose not to use the 365 Roster Updates if you don't want to, or choose not to use a particular update because you don't like the changes that have been made.

So the Dynamic DNA is separate from the 365 roster updates. . .cool!! That's all I needed to know

Thu Jul 17, 2008 5:32 am

Yes that's right, the updates to Player DNA is a key part of NBA Live 365 but you don't need to use those updates if you don't want to. You're able to specify whether you want those updates to be automatic or manual so if you never want to be bothered by the game checking for an update each day you don't have to be.

Thu Jul 17, 2008 5:35 am

Andrew,

Question:

How does changing Dynamic DNA player data affect signature playcalling?

(example, changing Pierce to a pick and roll player as opposed to him using pick and rolls and a lot of isolation?).

Thu Jul 17, 2008 5:39 am

I'm guessing it will change. Obviously there weren't any updates during the Community Event so we didn't see that in action but as I understand it the plays would change so if for example the Celtics began running more pick and roll plays for Pierce, that's what he'd be doing more often in Live as it would be the "possession goal" more frequently.

Thu Jul 17, 2008 5:51 am

Andrew,

So, like, if Paul Pierce was changed to a pick and roll player 100% of the time, then when he's on the floor, the Celtics would always run pick and roll to get him a shot?

Thu Jul 17, 2008 5:55 am

I also got a question for you Andrew, about the groundbreaking feature:

In a dynasty, if I do a trade like the Pau Gasol trade, will his DNA change or do I have to do that myself? Like if I trade Michael Redd to the Cavs for example, will his DNA change to straight up spot-up automatically?

Thu Jul 17, 2008 5:58 am

That's a good question, Andy92_man. I was wondering the same thing myself.

Thank you, rdelizo34 :D You're question weren't to bad either

Those would be the plays they'd be looking to run for him. They'd also be running plays for Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen so they wouldn't be running the pick and roll every time up the floor.

No, it wouldn't change.

Andrew,

Do you think that Live '09 will have more superstar templates to use for your Created Player's attributes? That's one thing I liked about last year's game on the 360/PS3.

Thu Jul 17, 2008 6:25 am

Probably not, there wasn't much focus placed on Create-a-Player this year.

Thu Jul 17, 2008 6:30 am

Andrew,

I suspected as much. I think that, overall, NBA Live '09 will be a great game to play. With all the new additions and improvements, I think that it will keep plenty of gamers interested and playing for a long time (isn't that the point anyway? ;) ).

The addition of NBA Live 365 and Dynamic DNA is certainly a change from what we've been used to.

I wonder if for NBA Live 2010 or 2011, EA will decide to use Dynamic DNA for offense and defense?

Thu Jul 17, 2008 6:34 am

Perhaps, though as it stands Player DNA gives the defense something to work with, knowing that a player prefers to spot up or is more effective going to his left or right.

Thu Jul 17, 2008 6:43 am

Andrew,

Definitely. I am very excited to play Live '09 as I'm sure you are and a lot of people on here as well.

I was pretty excited for Live '08 when it came out, but I really think that EA upped the ante with Live '09.

For all the complaints that Live has garnered over the years for the gameplay, I think that, with Dynamic DNA and signature playcalling that EA has taken a significant step in the right direction, in my opinion.

Thu Jul 17, 2008 8:41 am

its on

Thu Jul 17, 2008 8:19 pm

I have high hopes for it being an improvement as well, I think it's a good idea even if they weren't offering the updates. As I've said I didn't have enough hands-on time against the CPU to declare without a shadow of a doubt that the gameplay will be light years ahead of last year but I have a good feeling about it.

Fri Jul 18, 2008 8:09 am

Andrew,

Seems like that will be the test though to see if gameplay has improved, playing against the CPU.

Fri Jul 18, 2008 5:49 pm

Definitely, which is why I'm eager to get my hands on a demo. Though even then, it's difficult to get an idea of what you're in for if you like playing 12 minute quarters when you get to play a single half of two minute quarters. It's usually a reasonably accurate snapshot though.
