Talk about NBA Live 09 here.

Andrew, how will this feature affect player accessories? Will they update the accessories? If not, will there be some way to keep my changes to them yet still be able to play with the most recent update?
Does this also affect Dynasty?

TUSS11,
I'm sure that NBA365/NBA DNA will impact Dynasty since it involves player tendencies/abilities as well as team tendencies and overall gameplay. I'm not sure about accessories, but there is always a chance that the regular roster updates will take player changes like accessories into account.
We'll see though, once the game comes out.

I think it would be a better idea to just release a new game every two-three years if they are going to charge for this feature later (like pastapadre's article says). Then, they can just couple it with roster/player accessories update and can focus on improving future versions (while getting a longer development time).

JohnnyLi,
That's an interesting idea. However, I don't think EA Sports will skip releasing NBA Live 2010 next year since I heard it's like gonna be the 15th year anniversary of the game franchise.
However, with that being said, NBA Live '09 is definitely shaping up to be a great, great game.

WTF we have to pay for the updates?!?!?!?

The updates won't affect a Dynasty in progress but you'll be able to take an updated roster with updated DNA (including any changes you make yourself) and start a new Dynasty game.
I think updating player accessories might be in the longterm plans for the roster updates but we might be left to do that ourselves this year.
TUSS11 wrote:WTF we have to pay for the updates?!?!?!?
Not this year, though it looks like it might become a paid service in the future.

Rewind sounds like a very promising feature. I really like the idea for 365. But I'm wondering if it's possible for Asian countries?
I also think it'd be really helpful if updating can happen in our own dynasties. For example, all the trades and signings in our dynasty can sync with real life. Or even have every game update like real, except our teams' games.

We were told that an Xbox Live Silver account is sufficient for Xbox 360 users who wish to use the service. 365 is available free of charge in NBA Live 09 though it was hinted during the discussion of the feature that it may carry a charge in the future.
I hope that only a PSN account is needed to use it with PS3?

To be honest, to me it seems like an unnecessary feature.

That won't happen, the updates don't affect a Dynasty game in progress. It would be difficult to do that properly since it would interfere with custom rosters (including any transactions you made yourself) and player development.

Yes, that's right.

How so? It's not just a roster update, which is something I think a lot of people might be focusing on. It's also meant to be an upgrade to player AI; if it works as intended, we should see the right players taking the shots and taking the kind of shots you'd expect them to take in a real game. Daily updates also mean that any errors should be corrected within 24 hours and if the roster updates themselves are more detailed, with fewer missing players and ratings updates, so much the better.
It remains to be seen how well it will work for everyone but I wouldn't call it unnecessary.

So with the Player DNA, does that mean that if the score is tied and the Lakers have the final possession of the game, Kobe Bryant will take the shot pretty much everytime?

Wouldn't he?

I didn't see that scenario play out so I can't say whether it does or not but hopefully that would be the case. I'm guessing the featured scoring and clutch ratings would come into play there as well.

It only runs for a season, if that what you mean. When the 2008/2009 season ends, so too will NBA Live 09's NBA Live 365 updates.

well after seeing some videos about this and the gameplay it looks pretty nice.
To me the gameplay and animations are mor eimportant so as long as they fixed the stiffness of th players, the jumpshots and the lay ups and dunks i will be happy.
I saw a dunk by Shaq that looked nice and a dunk by Dirk that looked nice and smooth. I will be keeping my thumbs crossed.
the 365 feature will mostly be for exhibition games or season mode i think, cause the dynasty mode has its own developement.
Tue Jul 15, 2008 9:55 pm
True, though if you've got a 365 update you like you can use it to start a new Dynasty game. You can't update the Dynasty once it's started but you'll be able to make use of the updated data in the first place.
Tue Jul 15, 2008 10:41 pm
I don't see this features as a groundbreaking, but it's ok
Tue Jul 15, 2008 10:48 pm
I think that this feature is awesome and a great addition how will 2k respond we will see!

Rewind sounds like a very promising feature. I really like the idea for 365. But I'm wondering if it's possible for Asian countries?
No since there are no Asian leagues in NBA Live 09.
Of course it's possible. You have xbox live, you connect online, connect to the EA servers through the game, and BAM you've got updated DNA.

Wow this game has gone through the roof and its not even complete yet 2K had better watch out this year they have a real competition on there hands.
NBA 365 and NBA Rewind the refined shots and dunks and NBA Academy this is going to be the best game in a long time.
Wed Jul 16, 2008 7:09 am
Welp..between be a pro and nba 365....i will be buying live again after 3 years. Unless ofcourse nba 2k9 has the same features or even better ones..which I doubt. I really don't see how they will be able to match up to this shit.
Wed Jul 16, 2008 7:15 am
Cloudy is Asian?
Wed Jul 16, 2008 7:21 am
If Kobe shoots like 5-25 in real life and you play a whole season the following day, would your Kobe be in a slump the whole season? And the next time, say he shoots 20-25 in real life, would that mean, he shoots freaking hot every single game you play on that day?
It'd be hard to play a 82 game season in one day, but if you simulate a punch..
Still, It's a great feature. I think Live 09 will still be beaten by 2K9. Especially the gameplay part. I've always preferred 2K Sports, whatever the game is I'm playing.
Wed Jul 16, 2008 7:28 am
Martii,
As I understand it, the data used for NBA Live 365 will be updated daily so if Kobe would go 1-10 or 0-29, it would not necessarily mean a cold streak the whole time. On the other hand, the same is true for hot streaks.
Besides, in addition, player's have the ability to edit Player DNA on their own. So, with that being said, there's a lot of control in the gamer's hands this year.
Wed Jul 16, 2008 8:04 am
Andrew, will this mean simulated stats for players on other teams, are alot more realistic now? (i.e. no Steve Nash dropping 60.0ppg like I experienced last year)
