Spurs land thomas

Postby Sauru on Thu Feb 21, 2008 10:53 am

the spurs got kurt thomas for barry, elson and a 09 first rounder. seems like the spurs felt they needed a bit more with all the moves the other contending teams are making. personally i like thomas and think he can bring alot to SA

I think Thomas is perfect for them, but they gave up quite alot for him suprisingly. Wasn't Elson playing really well early in the season? They gave up on him pretty quickly.

Looks like the Spurs have made their token low-risk deal before the deadline. A deal like this one would have been a major coup though. The Spurs probably didn't need to make the deal but Elson and Barry haven't been playing so it certainly doesn't hurt to acquire another big who should give them some solid minutes off the bench (assuming Oberto remains the starter). There's no risk long term either since like Barry and Elson, Thomas' contract comes off the books this offseason.

oh they finally made a move, probably another deal that would be overlooked that might turn out great.

SA and Utah's little moves may be the smartest of them all.

Meanwhile, Seattle really scored. They basically gave up a 2nd rounded back in June for Barry, Elson, and 3 first rounders. (albeit by top-tier teams, but in 2010, the Suns may be a lottery team)

Elson was so-so.....his purpose was to match up with Nowitzki....but with Bynum, Shaq, Gasol all in the mix, Spurs need Thomas much more.

Great trade!

that's a scary trade... the spurs trade players they don't use only to improve defensively.

in other news, another Western Conference power reloads:
Hornets trade Bobby Jackson (who they don't need with Pargo stepping up) for Bonzi Wells & Mike James.

Hornets did really well too! Jackson was struggling and Pargo has been ballin since last season. They also get Bonzi Wells who's game is similar to Desmond Masons. James is probably a throw in, but i think he could be an effective player as a 2 guard alongside Pargo.

SA is still the team to beat. They have lots of depth upfront, and can neutralize LAL, and PHX.

I was disappointed knowing they traded away Barry.
Then elated when the Sonics put him on waivers. SA can sign him back.
Woot!

The link from that locked thread.
Besides, Barry can't leave (SA). Who would Fab Oberto play guitar with?

Barry added both humor and professionalism to the locker room, and it helped create what they have now. Who else could have gotten Tim Duncan on stage wearing a wig?

It wouldn't surprise me too much if Barry waited the 30 days and then signed on with San Antonio again.

Thomas was a good pickup for the Spurs, especially have they can sign Barry in 30 days. Barry is being courted by the Spurs, Mavs, and the Suns. During ABC's Suns vs Pistons game, they mentioned that both Shaq and Nash personally contacted Barry.

I would like to see him join the Celtics. I thought I was kind of a Lakers fan, but lately I have found myself rooting for the C's to win it all this year.

Sam Presti sucks. He gave as a gift Kurt Thomas to the Spurs.

Now San Antonio has an another chance to win the title.
