This is horrible news...iKe7in, how could you say these things about a person who is deceased, even in an internet forum?

Rest in peace, Eddie.

Wed Aug 22, 2007 4:11 pm

man, bad news! i'm 21, he was just 25! RIP

Wed Aug 22, 2007 4:28 pm

I remember a game he had a couple years ago against the jazz where he had 8 blocks.

I wonder why he didn't get out of the car? R.I.P.

Masterbating to porn?

Sad news, by the way I discovered an interesting fact on his nba.com bio:

became the first rookie in NBA history and stands as just one of six players all-time to average more than one blocked shot and one 3-pointer made per game in a season

And, as a basketball player: WHAT A WASTE.

Thu Aug 23, 2007 3:17 am

With all those circumstances, it can't be discarded that Eddie Griffin commited suicide.

I did, but I sold it to Milhouse.

God maybe, but I bet he got lumps of coal from Santa.

You really needed this to teach you that alcohol abuse is bad for you?

Yes, it shocked me too that someone who's life was in a perpetual downward spiral, somehow...spiraled downward.
Here is a little tribute to him....

Have some respect, the man is dead. Don't mock him by reminding people of his career.

Griffin clearly had no regard for safety and very little common sense. Society isn't responsible for protecting foolish people from themselves, and thus I wasn't surprised at all to hear of this.

Thu Aug 23, 2007 8:10 am

R.I.P Eddie

This is more than basketball... Lots of people keep posting how he was a waste and thats what lots of new articles have put it out. 'He's a watse'... 'he had so much potential.' Altho it may be true, this dude passed away and it is a shame that he had to go out like this. It's a shame that the media portrays it as Eddie and basketball and how he didn't turn out to be much.

Questions of why he had to go out like this and what issues he had are never answered.

Eddie Griffin had issues that led to his abuse of alcohol and drugs and he clearly needed help. Whether he was offered help and/or refused it, I am not entirely sure/certain of. His case just shows that no matter who you are, money isn't going to save you and that you need help and support from those who care about you most.

It should be a warning to everyone in that if you know anyone who might have a similar background, maybe you should try and see wats up and help them. That's the most you could do I guess.

We don't know if he was high/drunk or commited suicide. It will be interesting to hear what investigators find out.

RIP Eddie Griffin. 1982 - 2007.

i agree sit, too many people keep talking about how he had a bad career and how he didnt live up to his potential. the problem i see with that arguement is i can go down to the court and find a dozen people right now who won ever live up to thier potential. the point is the man needed help off the court more than he needed it on the court.

Lots of people keep posting how he was a waste and thats what lots of new articles have put it out. 'He's a watse'... 'he had so much potential.'

Well he had the talent to be a number two guy on a good team, and have a 10-15 year career, and threw it away because of alcohol and physical abuse. I can't think of a better word that 'waste' to describe it.
Altho it may be true, this dude passed away and it is a shame that he had to go out like this.

Given his history, it's probably a 75/25 shot he was either drunk or high when he was driving his car straight into a moving train. That doesn't sound like a shame to me.
It's a shame that the media portrays it as Eddie and basketball and how he didn't turn out to be much.

How else should they portray him? His only newsworthy characteristics were his criminal activity and his underachievement.
Questions of why he had to go out like this and what issues he had are never answered.

He didn't have to go out like this. His issues included selfishness and violent tendencies.
Eddie Griffin had issues that led to his abuse of alcohol and drugs and he clearly needed help.

Don't make him out to be some sort of victim. He took every advantage that was given to him and never faced consequences for his behavior.
Whether he was offered help and/or refused it, I am not entirely sure/certain of. His case just shows that no matter who you are, money isn't going to save you and that you need help and support from those who care about you most.

He spent time in a Houston rehab facility, with apprently tremendous support from his family and friends, including Rockets guard John Lucas who was in there with him. After he got out he subsequently beat and shot at his ex-girlfriend, drove/masturbated drunk and got in more fights with teammates.
It should be a warning to everyone in that if you know anyone who might have a similar background, maybe you should try and see wats up and help them. That's the most you could do I guess.

I don't personally know any D1 top scoring college players, anyone who was drafted in a pro league, has been paid millions, or watched porn in their car, but if I ever do, I will be sure to ask them "wats up?"
We don't know if he was high/drunk or commited suicide. It will be interesting to hear what investigators find out.

It would be some nice closure for supporters like yourselves, but given that the man was so badly burned and is most likely in a lot of little pieces, it might be tough to get a breathalyzer at this point.

RIP and such.

I didn't care for him. Nope. I didn't hear about it and I wouldn't have known about it which means that I wouldn't have cared for him. The point is now that I know about him - I don't or never ever knew him so I can't say I care for him. However, I don't think you or I included would ever wish death on anyone so there is the part of me that does care on the issue and news of his death.

Well he had the talent to be a number two guy on a good team, and have a 10-15 year career, and threw it away because of alcohol and physical abuse. I can't think of a better word that 'waste' to describe it.

What I was trying to allude at is how the media works. That's all.

Given his history, it's probably a 75/25 shot he was either drunk or high when he was driving his car straight into a moving train. That doesn't sound like a shame to me.

Probably is a higher chance than that of suicide. And with the investigating and all that - they have their own methods. If they bother that is. We may never know so I guess it's really up to how much they can put together and see what the coronor decides.

And if you don't think it's a shame... I don't know what to say. For anyone to pass away is a shame.

Don't make him out to be some sort of victim. He took every advantage that was given to him and never faced consequences for his behavior.

He's a victim of his own stupid actions. I never said i agreed with what he did and so forth. And how can he be portrayed? Hard for me to explain but i guess they are doing what I think the media should do which is to make an example of what you shouldn't do.

I don't personally know any D1 top scoring college players, anyone who was drafted in a pro league, has been paid millions, or watched porn in their car, but if I ever do, I will be sure to ask them "wats up?"

In his background, I meant his drinking/drugs background, not the background as in his basketball/job, etc. It reminds me of someone asking me about what he should do about his friend who turned to smoking pot and he was concerned for his safety. That kinda background.

Fri Aug 24, 2007 3:46 am

ALL of ya'll who are saying that he was crazy, and had problems...yea he did some drugs, but if u actually listen to what he told his agent right before he died, he said it was time to change, and stop all his bad actions, he was about to go play in Europe, but sadly never got the chance to. Eddie Griffin is my favorite player, and i'm pretty sure if he hadn't been driving that day, this week, we probably would've heard some kinda news of him signing overseas as he said. So do just judge him just cuz he did drugs and was suspended and all the bad stuff he did. He had a tough life, fights, crashes, brothers death, and addictions. He is 100% not a crazy man. He's a man whose done something all of ya'll can't do i bet and that is playing NBA basketball, and trying to get is life on track. But no if ya'll don't want to believe he was really trying, then u can go ahead and sit around talking bad about him and his bad actions, but to never of thought that if u were in his place(which i know ya'll couldn't) its hard to bounce back with family deaths, suspensions, prison ,fights, drugs, shootings.

R.I.P. Eddie Griffin-the most atheletic, most talented, most potential big man to ever play the game of basketball

I think Wilton Norman would like to have some words with you...

I don't see your point.

Fri Aug 24, 2007 4:26 am

I don't see your point

Benji, u don't wanna mess with me. I'm not even gonna cuss u out. The point is all of ya'll have been seeing his bad actions in the NBA, have a brothers death(R.I.P. Marvin Powell), fights with classmates, shootings, drugs, crashes many other things. All ya'll think of is his bad expeirences. But i see someone who was the no.1 player in the nation when he was at Seton Hall and Roman Catholic High School, a person who is the last man to emerge so qucikly form philly since Wilt Chamberlein, a person who played for the McDonalds All-American team, First-Team All-Rookie 2001-2002, Career high points 27,Career blocks 8,7 threes. One of the best 3-point shooting big man to play the game. 18 career rebounds. He was voted National Player of the year on Prades Magizine at Roman Catholic High. Freshamn of the year at Seton Hall.NABC All-District 3 Team, All-Big Second Team, All-Metropolitan First Team at Roman and Seton Hall. First player from Seton Hall to be called Big East Conference Rookie of the Year. No one ever looks at his best expeirences at playing basketball.

Fri Aug 24, 2007 4:30 am

Hey guys, we all know that iKe7in is being a souless (he admitted it himself) idiot, why bother answering him to encourage him to keep posting? Since blasting him didn't work, just ignore the guy, and everything will eventually go away and then this thread won't be headed for the HC, which would be a disrespect to Griffin.
