For the past 3 years, the lakers and heat battled in exciting games during Christmas. It focuses Kobe-Shaq match-up.But according to MiamiHerald.com,this year will feature new rivalry. It's D-Wade vs. LeBron.

Id rather see Heat vs Bulls. But i know its all about making money, not putting the best rivalry on.

You know what this says?

Kobe is so not cool anymore, lol. Never thought a superstar could be old news at 29...

As for who wins, I'll take whoever Donaghy has on the over/under.

I'm glad the Shaq vs Kobe Christmas thing is finally gone. I'm disappointed that Wade vs LeBron is their idea of fresh blood. I'd rather see a team rivalry rather than which MJ-wannabe is better matchup.

Suns - Spurs.... :o

You know who I'd love to see christmas Day? the Mavs and the Warriors. Even if its lopsided, last years series created a rivalry. Cuban and Nellie hate other, baron vs. jet, j-rich and josh howard, dirk versus the fans singing hasselhoff... makings of a classic.

J-Rich is on the Bobcats.

But i agree, team rivals are better to watch then teams with one superstar. Cavs are boring other then lebron, thats like putting the bucks on christmas day. Redd can score 30.

i wish they would pick 2 teams and always have them play christmas day and be done with it. turn it into a tradition like in the nfl, where the lions and cowboys always have a game

....am i missing something?

Boston @ Seattle would be somewhat good, but id rather see Portland Vs. Seattle and see the top two picks play each other. And like someone said above Gstate vs Mavs.

lol, my bad... Completely forgot about that.

About time. Lakers aren't gonna be any good this year, Cavs are kind of even with Heat, so its a better game then Lakers - Heat. Also I wouldn't mind seeing Nuggets - Suns :)

Well just about everytime Dallas and Lakers meet is a somewhat great game between them....and Houston would be great to see both ex magic play aganst their old teams ( Tmac-Francis)....plus the howard vs. yao matchup...with newly Lewis....i see a great game....

its my opinion that the celtics and lakers should play each other every single christmas, rotating who is at home each season.

Thu Jul 26, 2007 12:13 pm

Sorry sauru, but im not watching any celtics games until they actually have a center. That fat slob perkins and lack of backup to said fat slob are going to keep you out of the playoffs again this year.

Right now the lakers - celtics rivalry is dead. its like the annual football game between the cowboys and redskins. Its no fun if the teams arent serious contenders. But on the other hand, watching ray-ray torch whoever is guarding him never get old. (Y)

Thu Jul 26, 2007 12:15 pm

Bulls vs Pistons would be a better classic rival matchup. However they are both eastern teams. But it doesnt matter, NBA isnt about promoting team rivalries, they are all about making individual players more popular.

Thu Jul 26, 2007 12:17 pm

could also have a bulls/pistons game ever year too, they do play 2 on christmas day

Thu Jul 26, 2007 6:56 pm

yeah bulls vs pistons will be fun to watch

Thu Jul 26, 2007 9:28 pm

This new game seems like another one of the "LeBron-a-thon versus Wade-a-thon". Like how they plan to make that classic McDonald's ad (with Larry Bird and MJ) with those two.

Now all Stern needs to do is introduce something that lets the Cavs take on the Heat in the Finals.

I reckon it's more a case of Shaq vs Kobe being old news. It's been three years since the trade and three Christmas Day showdowns. Since the teams haven't met in any other games of great significance and there's no sniping between the two players these days, there's not much heat to the rivalry anymore.

Fri Jul 27, 2007 6:49 pm

I'm just sick of the laker heat matchup.Good thing they changed it :D

Thats easy. Move the Cavs to the west, and move the Hornets to the East. Doesnt make sense why New Orleans would be considered west anyway, but for the sake of the argument, I think thats the easiest way to do so.

Sat Jul 28, 2007 2:19 pm

wow... wut a boring christmas it's gonna be
ain't much better than clippers vs bucks

Sun Jul 29, 2007 3:35 pm

it should be Spurs vs Mavs/Suns or Mavs vs Suns

Mon Jul 30, 2007 5:39 am

if they wanna add consistancy they could just make the christmas day game a rematch of the years previous finals matchup, or for 2 games make them both rematches of the conference finals

Mon Jul 30, 2007 9:56 am

There's an idea. At the very least, if Christmas Day games are going to be a marquee matchup they need to be between two teams whose rivalry still has some steam.
