I also think they mean close to nothing, but when a player can't get a break and have the draft stock he should because of a "bad" freshman season, the results he had should definately help.

Take a look at Thaddeus vs. two of the highest projected swingmen - Corey Brewer and Jeff Green.

Thaddeus is a 1/4 inch shorter than Brewer and 2 inches shorter than Green.

Thaddeus weighs 25 more pounds than Corey and 18 pounds less than Green.

Thad's wingspan is 3 1/4 inches bigger than Brewers, 1 3/4 inches shorter than Greens.

Thaddeus has a standing reach 3 inches higher than both Green and Brewer.

Thad's body fat percentage is 1.2 higher than Greens, 0.7 higher than Brewers.

Thaddeus jumps 4 inches higher than Brewer, 1 inch higher than Green (Standing vert).

Thad jumps 1/2 an inch higher than Brewer and 1 inch lower than Green (max vertical).

Thaddeus is stronger than Brewer, weaker than Green.

Thaddeus is consirably more agile than both Brewer and Green.

Thaddeus is faster than both Brewer and Green.

So Thaddeus has all these physical tools that are ahead of both Green and Brewer for the most part, however, the skills that really matter aren't that far off either.

In my opinion if Thad's ballhandling with his off hand was improved, he would of been a 20 point scorer and a lock for the top 5 or so. Remember when he, Durant and Brandan Wright were essentially considered equal before the season started, all sitting behind Oden on the draft boards?

I read Thaddeus played mostly in the post in high school, so he really only been playing the wing for a year, hence the shabby ballhandling that basically destroys his slashing ability. Give him another year in college and I think he will be a player of the year candidate. But it's not like he can only get better in college, he could go straight to the NBA and learn from the best, becoming better - quicker.

Just remember Thaddeus "dissappointing" freshman season numbers were leaps and bounds ahead of Brewer's and on par with Greens. Who knows what he would of been putting up as a Junior, but I would bet on it being better than both of these guys.

Too much emphasis on how fast someone can run, how high they can jump, instead of just looking at how they play.

Take Millsap for example. I was looking at his college stats before the draft, wondering why he was pegged to go in the 2nd round. He won the rebounding 3 fucking years in a row... Who cares if he 6'8", he can obviously play...

You are probably right - I just finished reading this article, and it helped me realize how inaccurate those combines can be: http://www.draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=1351

that draftX article follow up on the results was excellent

it is indeed strange how prospects values can plummet or drop based on those tests. what would be alarming if some player was listed at 7'0 but measured out as 6'7 without shoes

but i guess these numbers are fun to look at & keep us busy before the draft starts
Jump.

don't worry Shannon, we all already know that Thaddeus Young is a great talent....if he had of had the freshman season we all expected that he would, then he would've been a lock for top 5 pick....but honestly, I can't see him falling out of the lottery....

i think that even if Oden has the lowest marks in the leaping, running, agility, and other sttats.. i still believe he goes 1st pick..

I know Thad can play and his numbers would've been alot better if it wasn't for Crittenton (not a big fan) being selfish in some games. As a PG, I think he somehow limited Thad's offense in some ways this past season. For the most part he was pretty good throughout the year, but there were times I was wondering why he just didn't let Thad go to work instead of trying to shoot an outside shot when he needs to improve in it. Thad should've been the focal point of that offense because he can really tear it up and he didn't even show all of his stuff during his first year so I would consider Thad a steal in the draft. There were times when he would be a little too unselfish and you could put him in the same category as Rudy Gay. When he becomes more selfish, he can be something scary.
