Interview with Kobe Bryant: ESPNImage

Lakers training camp is over and Kobe Bryant has gone through a lot of adversity with the recent rape charge and his troubles with Shaq.

ESPN: Kobe, how are you mentally AND physically, with all of the recent troubles you have gone through in the past few months?

Kobe: I try not to let it affect me. What I set out to do is lead our team to a championship and lead our team with a desire and strong passion to win.

ESPN: How does your team look heading into the season?

Kobe: From my standpoint, I think we should get, 1st, or 2nd in the West and be a feared contender all season long. There are teams like San Antonio, Minnesota, Houston, Memphis, Sacramento, teams like that that pose a strong threat. But if we stick together, I feel like we can withstand anything they have to offer.

ESPN: Will the Lakers go all the way this year?

Kobe: With the chemistry that we have, and the guys we have, the Shaquille O'neals, the Gary Paytons, the Karl Malones, guys like that I feel that we can win and have fun at the same time.

ESPN: How does it feel to be in the public eye all the time and to be the one people talk about consistently?

Kobe: Man it's great and it's hell at the same time because it's a strong sense of responsibility with this. I try to have a positive impact on the teenagers and the youth and others to be their inspiration to suceed and strive to be great like I did in high school looking up to Michael and Scottie and Magic and people like this.

ESPN: Kobe good luck with your season. Thank you for the interview

Kobe: No Problem

SEASON OPENER

The Lakers play against the Dallas Mavericks on October 30th at Staples Center. Kobe Bryant will not play in this game.
