J-Kidd on Lakers

Kidd gets consistent minutes and you still don't know what to expect from him, sure every superstar has a bad night, but never as often as Kidd does.

Also, he can really shoot the ball. If anything he is an underrated shooter IMO.

I would take Kidd if I were the Lakers, but only at the right price. Bryant, Odom, Bynum wouldn't be going anywhere. I would give up any other big and any of the guys who have shown they could be good players down the track like Luke Walton.

I think they already maintained that Bynum was untouchable regardless. That's probably how the Lakers were able to position themselves into that package.

If Bynum is off limits then I really don't know why the Nets would be keen to make this move. As I said before I'm really surprised Rod Thorn is even considering it; after all, this is the executive who drafted Michael Jordan, acquired Kidd and capitalised on the situation with Vince Carter in Toronto a couple of years ago. If he pulls the trigger I can't see it going down as one of his better decisions.

on reason is to unload kidd's huge salary. trading kidd + carter for expiring contracts and younger players will save NJ lots of moohlah, while keeping the lineup talented (as opposed to simply tanking the season so they might get the chance to draft oden/durant).

just look at this scenario:
kidd (18M) + filler <-> brown (9m), Farmar(1m), Mihm (4m) + filler?mckie(2.5m)
carter (16m) <-> G hill (16m), jj redick (1.8m)

after the off season, mihm, mckie and hill's contract expires, so drop them during the off season. NJ saves 10M on the kidd trade, and 14M on the carter trade.

Next year the nets could look like this:

Krstic/collins/illic
Brown/boone/robinson
Jefferson/nachbar/robinson
redick/wright/adams
Williams/Farmar

what is so good about this team after the trade? it will be around 12M under the salary cap. I don't think there will be any big name players on the free agent market, but they can sure pick up 1 or 2 5-6million type players + decent first round draftees. unless NJ think it can still duke it out for playoff contention with the current team. It is time to rebuild.

why would the magic want this trade? because in the weak weak east, a team hovering around .500 would easily be in contention for a division or even conference title.

why would LA want it? give up what could be 2 good future role players (brown, farmar) for another dynasty? because kobe said he'd love to play alongside kidd... so since when is LA against what kobe wants?

Kidd is consistent with his rebs & assts but in term of shooting he's easily the worst superstar the game has seen. The way he's been playing in Feb, I would just dump Smush Parker for Kidd, Kidd doesn't even understand the 3pt range has always been farther than the free throw line.

well, Bryant doesn't want to win, he wants a player giving him the ball, Kidd would do that only after he tries his own luck shooting 7 3s, that's not helping the Lakers, that's helping Bryant.

It seems that way now. Nothing exciting this year in terms of trade deadlines.

this laker team was built to become a contender back in 3 years after resigning Phil Jackson. Phil's contract ends next year at the end of the season and they must add another component in their team in order to get Jackson's lakers back in the finals. i remember hearing Magic Johnson talking about they are going to have one more star player added to this team before phil's contract nears an end.

in the beginning of the season many people ridiculed laker's gm for signing Radman and using up the rest of their salary to a midlevel exception when they could try to sign a bigger name like KG in the following season. however if this nets/lakers deal goes down they got both a big name and a sharpshooter they needed.

Sure their center position and front court seems thin, however with the lakers reliance on their youngster andrew bynum they only need a decent back up center that can easily be signed in the offseason. TRUST ME such a franchise as the lakers know what the hell theyre doing. i mean... they did it every decade.

The guy who built dynasties in LA was named Jerry West. He was the GM of the 80s Lakers with Magic & Kareem that won all the championships. He rebuilt the Lakers again and pulled off a miracle trading Vlade Divac for Kobe Bryant, and he brought Shaq to LA from Orlando, and surrounded them with solid roleplayers.

That guy isn't in LA anymore...there's no way West would have traded Caron Butler (All-Star, 20 - 8 - 4) for Kwame Brown.

well it looks like the deal is off for now. that sux i wanted to see that trade happen i think it would have been for the best. the could have traded j kidd for i think odom. i was watchin tnt toda ynd charles barkely says that kobe being the jordan of the laker team needs that pippen but odom seems that he dosent bring that tenacity that he needs to be in that kind of positon. i kinda agree with this statement. i think that trade woulve helped the lakers cuz it would have taken some of the load off of kobe's shoulders..wow i wrote alot lol

Agreed, though I don't think they need to be in a huge hurry to give up on their current Big Three. Waiting until the offseason will at least give them more of an opportunity to seek out equal value if they're intent on making a deal.
