Yes I'd stick with Kobe too, even though Carmelo OFFICIALLY holds the most clutch player right now statistics-wise, he doesn't really show it this year with his play down the stretch (atl east since he came back from susp).

I'd have to agree, Okur is definitely one of the most clutch players in the NBA at the moment that's at the moment though, although he was really clutch last season too....from the games I see, everytime there's a big play needed, Mehmet is your man

he's definitely up there with Arenas, maybe not on Gilbert's level due to it being Hibachi, but still, Okur is just doing what Melo did last year, hitting the big shots when needed....I think he's won the Jazz a half dozen games this season in the waning seconds....

don't be so fast to ride Gilbert's dick people, sure he's been great, but he's not the only one who's been stepping up at the end....

Arenas is another guy that seems to make it all the time at the buzzer or when his team needs it. Like a couple weeks ago, but who didnt hit a clutch shot against the jazz a couple weeks ago.

Joejam, you make me scared to admit i like the jazz on this board (as do a couple others jazz homers bitching about utah always gettting a 'bum rap'). Anyway what makes this spam you may ask?
1) the claim is ridiculous. Unless you have an article saying an analysis of last second shots was done and okur has the most of anyone in the NBA yo u have no support whatsoever. I know you like your team and there's not a damn thing wrong with that but all teams have players who make big shots. Thats how alot of players get to the NBA. It is their job to play this game, so of course they're going to do it well.
2)When anyone tried to refute you said "you obviously have never seen a jazz game" The jazz have been on tv alot this year and most of the members here are AVID NBA fans. I'm more of a casual fan myself (until playoffs because i dont have cable) and i've caught a couple jazz games
3) finally in order to stay out of look like a total idiot, you finally say "ok ok, but he's definitely top 5" but you just made yourself look worse
Like i said, nothing wrong with supporting your team, and hell i like the jazz. I' m born and raised ACC boy for college hoops and like Boozer, i like Deron (nice guy had a class with him) and Dee (never seen this guy not smiling on campus) and hell i dont have a problem with any jazz player. But claiming Okur is the most clutch player when so much evidence points to Arenas is ridiculous.

Well, if we look from stats view (judging by 82games.com) we can see that Okur is performing better than Bryant in the clutch.

He is scoring almost as many points as Bryant does on far better percentage.

Now, Arenas is scoring more, but again he is shooting worse.

Of course, this doesn't reflect the game-winning shots distribution

Okur has hit clutch jumpers every chance he's got this year. I can't recall him once failing to come through when his team called on him.

Okur... thats kinda random. Okur's okay, but... one name that I am surprised isn't here is Robert Horry. Okay, so he is getting old, and it has been a couple years since the last time he hit a clutch game-winner, but if it was game 7 of the nba finals, down by 1, 4 seconds left, would you pick horry or okur? Also, that 82 games page was updated last spring, so it is a year out of date.

1. The point isnt about the kinds of players they are, they question is about making game winning shots. I didnt post stats because they had been previously posted: Arenas has 15 GW/send game OT shots this season alone.

Taking into account last 5 minutes of games also takes into account blowout nights where people may just be putting it up, not concentrating, shooting frustrated etc. The only stat we're discussing is # of game winning/send to OT shots.

Illini you are wrong. The stat posted was that Gil had made 15 buzzer beaters. A buzzer beater could be at the end of a quarter. Hell for all we know, it could also include end of shot clock situation. Your argument about the whole last five minutes thing is flawed as well. The fact of the matter is, you haven't made any better argument than has joejam. And for god sakes, this thread is far from spam. At least it has sparked some interesting debate.


EDIT: hell I gotta few minutes, lets break down the numbers:
Since the title of the thread was Okur was the most clutch PLAYER, we will look at more than just scoring stats.

Scoring: Gilbert averages more points, but Okur's effective FG% is almost 10% higher, so lets call that a wash.

Rebounding: Okur has a better rebound rate than Gilbert, but he's also a big, so you would expect this, so lets call this a wash.

Ball Handling: Okur has a way better assist to turnover ratio and hands rating than does Gil, but Gil is a guard and "creates" more. Most of Okurs buckets come off of assists. So this could probably be called a wash as well.

Defensive: This is where Okur is better. His blocks and steals in late game situations are far better than anything Gil has done. Advantage Okur.

In summation I would say they are about even, but given that Okur is not the player you would expect this type of performance from while Arenas is, I think Okur might actually be a better clutch performer.

Have you not watched any jazz games? Noone steps out on Okur why? To this day no jazz fan can figure it out. Big T (Thurl Bailey) is always bringing it up. He is left wide open all the time, ecspecialy with the clock running down. It is like Stockton to Malone only you dont have the Mailman going to the basket you have a wide open Okur for the Money ball/Money shot or just Money whatever you want to call it. I dont think Okur has much problems with hands in the face he just always seems to make it.
