tendo, dorell+1-st round pick + posey or barron?! or may be even kapono?!
Mon Jan 29, 2007 7:53 pm
Yeah, i'm not that fuss on dorell even though he just may end up a great player. The way Kapono is playing i don't really wana lose him. I consider myself more of a VC fan than a Nets fan. Top three teams have always been Jersey, Miami and L.A so i could live with seeing Carter in Miami i suppose. However i do think Jersey will be able to get more value elsewhere.

No rule like that.
Remember Chris Webber & Penny Hardaway were traded minutes after they were drafted.

Well, they traded the draft rights of that player, so they could get them then sign them to the contract.

Yeah, i mean once they had signed their 'rookie' contract.

Drew Gooden got traded his rookie year, don't know what you're talking about there.

They can't be traded until a certain point of the season (I believe December 15th is the date) but apart from that there's no rule against players on rookie contracts being traded.

Speaking of trading rookies, i hear Portland made an offer for Gasol including LeMarcus Alridge and Magloire. Doesn't seem good for Memphis IMO; they would trade away 1 good PF for 2 mediocre PFs...unless they think Alridge's upside is very high.

The thing I'm most shocked about when it comes to that Potland - Memphis offer is that they were not just willing to give up Aldridge, but also Sergio Rodriguez who has been great all season and if he played better defence could really turn out to be a fantastic point guard down the road.
This definitely isn't good for Portland if this trade doesn't go down, because from my perspective it makes Aldridge look like he isn't as great and doesn't have as much potential as first thought.

It's a sign and trade rule. Once a rookie signs, he cannot be traded until December 15th, I also believe. I'm not exactly sure, but this rule may apply to all free agent signings as well.

Gasol in Portland? Would look weird and a bad trade for Memphis. Getting Aldrige would be okay, but without including Roy it's a rip-off.

I am getting really worried that the Celtics are going to make a really really bad move right now. We have so much young talent and right now it's just being wasted. Ugh, can we trade coaches or GMs? Boston's coach and GM for Denver's, straight up, how does that sound? haha

i am done with that deal myself. i too am a bit worried that the celts will once again trade away a young talent before giving them a chance to grow. really pisses me off that the best franchise ever in the nba cant do anything right now.
