Can Someone Remember and Explain This Picture?

Mon Jan 22, 2007 12:52 pm

I came accross this picture, and the caption was "This would have been funnier if it was 2004" or someting like that.

Anyone remember this picture or whats going on? Two teams, one huddle?

Mon Jan 22, 2007 1:27 pm

I don't see a picture.

Mon Jan 22, 2007 4:02 pm

same here, no pic...

I remember back in 2000 when KG was on the Men's Olympic team. The US team had a big big lead that would have been impossible to overcome by the opposing team. So with just a few remaining minutes, the players on the floor for the opposing team decides to huddle. KG and another guard (can't remeber who, maybe pierce and malone?), decides to walk over and join in in the huddle. Anyway, whatever your pic is about, it was probably just for kicks...

That's the pic. They apparently don't allow hotlinking to their images. Pretty funny.

It was KG and VC against France (Pierce and Malone weren't even on the USA team)

Looks like only Carter is in the huddle, maybe more on the other side, but my bet is he just came in the huddle to joke around.

Tue Jan 23, 2007 11:32 am

It might have been right after 9/11, with it being the Knicks.

Tue Jan 23, 2007 4:36 pm

Nah that was in the playoffs. I think he somehow got caught in the huddle and decided to join it?

Tue Jan 23, 2007 5:55 pm

My guess is that it would've been funnier in 2004 (opposed to say now...) because back in 2004, Carter was still a Raptor.

Or isn't that the question?

Tue Jan 23, 2007 6:23 pm

I think they said it would of been funnier in 2004 because at the time Vince was playing like shit and demanding a trade, even going to the lengths of telling the Sonics what play Toronto was running in the final moments of a close game.

Bingo.

Though I don't get why he would have joined the opposing team's huddle at ANY time.

Wed Jan 24, 2007 6:21 pm

wtf??? hahaha who said VC went to the opposing team's huddle to screw over his own team? players often go to opponent's huddles so the other team cant plan up a quick play in the huddle while another player is trying to be nosey. its just funny that VC is in the huddle and nobody notices; even when they have their arms around him lol. but i dont know why it would be funnier if it was 2004. maybe cuz he was in toronto back then?[/quote]

Wed Jan 24, 2007 6:32 pm

Since when do NBA teams huddle up at midcourt and plan "quick play[s]"? Last I checked, the coach calls the play from the sideline. In addition, there's a cameraman on the court.

Wed Jan 24, 2007 6:41 pm

Ummm I'm pretty sure you can't just go into another teams huddle and listen to their gameplan and they can't do anything about it. I have never seen it happen before, and to be honest I don't know what the fuck Vince is doing there, but it definitely isn't a timeout-call-a-play huddle, because nobody does that at halfcourt...

Also, I said VC went over to the opposing teams huddle to screw his team over (he wanted out of Toronto at the time, 2004) and I clearly stated it was the Sonics. Unless the Sonics wore Knicks uni's, swapped players and played at the Garden against Toronto for a single game and nobody noticed except for you, your retarded.

That's true, you can't join an opposing team's huddle during a timeout. However, I remember reading about a Timberwolves/Bucks game a few years back when George Karl, out of timeouts, called an impromptu huddle on the sideline during a dead ball in the waning seconds. KG joined in the huddle, saw the play that was quickly drawn up and the Timberwolves knew what was coming as a result.

That's a huge pile of stinking bulshit.. :scold:

Well, the only "bullshit" thing he said is "at the time" because VC played like shit, demanded a trade and told the opposing team their final play but it was later, like 2004. EDIT: just read Flite_23's whole post and he said 2004 so what's the pile of stinking bullshit you're talking about?

yosifun wrote:About the pic.. It's for sure got something to do with the 9/11 thing or somthing similar..
Nope, it's from the Knicks-Raptors series from either the 2000 or 2001 playoffs, which were both before Sept. 11th 2001.

Sat Jan 27, 2007 4:42 am

The bulshit is that no way Vince did it.. it's all rumors and lies..

Sat Jan 27, 2007 8:56 am

Lmao you sound in denial. I remember a while back some Sonic was shook as hell when a reporter asked him about it, he kept on saying "I'm not gonna say if he did or didn't, you can ask Ray thats on him."

Sat Jan 27, 2007 9:44 am

actually it is totally legal for a player to join an opposing team's huddle as long they DIDNT call a time out. for example.... after timeouts you will often see teams huddle together before one player goes to the sideline and inbound the ball. maybe you dont see teams huddle in the middle of court cuz the game is probably on commercials since they show commercials every timeout. there are many instances when stuff like this happens. iono if the picture above is exactly this case and im making assumptions too but im sure thats what it is. im actually surprised that no one here ever seen stuff like this happen before

Yeah that was Jerome James. He was like "I'm not scared of Vince... but you can ask Ray". It was pretty funny stuff

yosifun, seriously, you do seem in denial. Vince has always been cocky and admitted to not playing anywhere near his level just so he could get a trade. The guy just wasn't professional about the whole thing.

That's pretty much what happened in the Timberwolves/Bucks game I mentioned in my last post.

You talk about it like it's a normal thing in sports.. if it was true than no team would agree to take him, fearing this thing would happen again..

I think somebody made this story look bigger than it really was

Sat Jan 27, 2007 11:28 pm

As unprofessional as he was through the situation, he is still a very good player. He wanted out of Toronto specifically, and he is now happy in New Jersey. If a team can get a player of his level and keep him happy, they get alot more postivies out of it than negatives. He only did it to help force the trade, and it obviously worked because he was traded two days later.

As a Vince fan yourself I'm actually very shocked you never heard about it. Search it in Google and I'm sure you will find plenty of articles.
