Kevin Durant Watch

Postby --- on Wed Jan 17, 2007 2:56 pm

I need to start this thread. Nobody in New Zealand cares about NCAA basketball, so I need to talk with people that understand. I can barely type right now, too excited, Texas in a thriller against Oklahoma State and Durant is killing it in the 3rd OT. With 12 seconds to go, he once again tied the score.

The guy is just amazing. I cannot begin to explain his potential. Oh....

EDIT: God dammit, Durant hits a clutch free throw to go up one, and Oklahoma still finds a way to win

Kevin finished with 37 points and 13 rebounds, god damn this guy is good.

Not really, I hadn't heard anything about him until his junior year in HS, and since then I have been following the guy like the paparazzi. Honestly, if he can get stronger and work on his inside game a bit, he could be a huge, and I mean huge, star in the NBA.

So far his stats are: 23.7 PPG | 11.0 RPG | 1.8 APG | 1.6 SPG | 1.8 BPG

He's also a better passer than the numbers show. I've seen him pull some pretty sweet ones, and he has a great knowledge of the game.

Everyone is talking bout the 07 Draft being the Oden sweepstakes, but if a team needs a small forward I wouldn't be surprised if this guys goes 1st.

Most of what I've heard over here is that he'll probably go second. He's definately tearing it up this year.

I heard Mario Boggan, before nailing the game winner (after Durant put Texas up with a 3 point play) said to Kevin Durant: "Let's go showtime".

I have never been so excited for so long. That game was amazing. Kevin Durant is down right relentless going to the basket despite being weak and skinny, yet he's so smooth at the same time. I don't think there is a more dynamic scorer in college basketball. He is 6-9, 6-10, plays on the perimeter but can score inside pretty much whenever he wants. Along with that he is a great free throw shooter (not to mention 49% FG) so late in close games teams have even more trouble defending him.

Villanova should be a good game, but I'm predicting a Texas win, Kevin goes for 28/10/2 (Y)

Tendo, Texas and Ohio State won't be matching up during the regular season, but maybe we will see that come March

He looks like an awesome player, i heard comparisons of a hybrid player of half Kevin Garnett and half Tracy Mcgrady. Be good to see him in the NBA and go up against these guys. I still think Oden will go number 1 because hes got Tim Duncan like potential and most likely will become the next dominant player in the NBA but Kevin Durant is guaranteed to go in the top 3 and most likely the top 2.

Next years draft is gonna be really exciting and the 08 season is going to be a memorable season.

I'm automatically a fan of what ever team he goes to. He is essentially a shot blocking, super rebounding version of Tracy McGrady (minus T-Mac's passing ability). I just wish he would stay another season at Texas to get stronger and maybe carry them to to the final four but I guess he can only go 1 spot higher in the draft.

Tough loss for Texas today against a Curtis Sumpter-less Villanova team. It looked like a bad loss, then they clawed back and cut the lead to 2, then it was looking like a tough loss and it stayed that way. Durant was cold all night, connecting on just 4-15 FG attempts, and I think up until the final minutes of the second half he had only shot twice in the half, missing both of them.

He did have 2 blocked shots and 8 rebounds, however failed to achieve a double-double for the first time in 7 games and only the 6th in his 18 games so far in his college career. He also failed to register 20+ points for the first time in 9 games.

In the 6 games straight games that he registered a double-double in before the loss to Villanova today, he had averaged:

29.6 PPG | 14.3 RPG | 2.2 APG | 1.6 SPG | 1.8 BPG

During that streak he also set career highs in points with 37, rebounds with 17 and tied a career high in assists by dishing out 4 against Texas-Arlington.

To date, his current career highs are as follow:

Points: 37 (vs. Oklahoma State)

Rebounds: 17 (vs. Centenary)

Assists: 4 (2 times, vs. St Johns, Texas-Arlington)

Steals: 4 (vs Texas State

Blocks: 5 (vs Chicago State)

Well looks like he bounced back from that tough Villanova game. Yesterday in a close game against Nebraska he posted 26 points, 15 rebounds (7 off), and a steal on 10-18 shooting.

Lets see how he handles Baylor in 2 days.

Well Durant dropped 34 and 9 on 50% shooting against Baylor with just a single turnover.

Current averages:

PPG 24.4 | RPG 11.0 | APG 1.6 | 1.4 SPG | 1.8 BPG

Personally I can't wait for the Texas vs Texas Tech game. A good friend of mine is a huge Jarrius Jackson fan and is convinced Tech will get the win, but I don't think so.

Well Jarrius jackson is nasty, and he's been tearing it up this year. I wouldn't be surprised if Bobby Knight got another W to add to his record.

29 and 22 at the moment, I won't be surprised if he has a 30/25 game. The guy is just amazing.

EDIT: 31 and 22

Alright lol nevermind, Kevin Durant is just completely dominating.
He has the first 30 point 20 rebound game in the University of Texas; history.

I think hes ready for the NBA now i mean with the NBA coaches and the quality of players hes playing hes bound to improve more there than just dominating the college scene ala JJ Redick.

I don't think he is quite ready, and the only reason for that is his body. He isn't strong enough right now, although he can play the 2, 3, and 4 so he could play more on the perimeter as a rookie to use his size to his advantage then when he bulks up he can play down low a little more.

I don't know. The guy is dominating, and he's a freshman! I think he's ready for the NBA. I mean, 37 and 23. That is just sick.

Yeah I get what you mean Gundy, but while he may have the skill of an NBA player right now, he doesn't have the body. Thats what Amare pretty much rode during his Rookie season, he was very raw but was just ready physically for the league.

Anyway, alright game against Kansas State today who as you may know lost Bill Walker for the season a while back. Longhorns lost by one, I didn't watch the game but Cartier Martin (27 pts) nailed 2 freethrows after a clutch offensive rebound and bucket by Durant with 26 seconds to go to cut the lead to one. The Longhorns fouled to stop the clock and Martin hit both free throws to go up 73-70. Justin Mason took the potential gametying 3 and missed, and Damion Jones put it back in for 2 at the end of the game. Final score; Texas 72, Kansas State 73.

KD had a good night shoting the ball, going for 32 points on 13 of 21 shooting (62%) and also added 9 rebounds. He stuggled at the line for the 3rd straight game only connecting on 2 of his 4 attempts. The state of the night for me was his shot blocking. He blocked a total of five shots, tying his career record.

Statline: 32 PTS | 9 RBS | 0 AST | 0 STL | 5 BLK | 1 TO | 62% FG | 80% FT | 36 MIN

Look forward to a great game coming up versus Texas A&M, should be a big one knowing his big game against his last in state opponent. For those of you outside the US, you can watch it on O-TSN on TVU player, 5th of February, 9:00pm ET.

EDIT: Read an article just before and found this:

"It won't be the NBA calling," Brown said. "Kevin's looking to be at Texas for two or three years. But he also knows if he has a good year, the shoe companies will come calling with an offer that makes it impossible not to go."

Now I know that alot of players say that, but KD sounds like a really genuine, honest guy. He doesn't have a 'thuggish' attitude and he really cares about winning. I hope he sticks by this and stays another year, for his sake, and for a Longhorn title.
