Seattle Post-Intelligencer -
The Sonics had been waiting for today to clear some roster space and potentially add some pieces that could spark a postseason run.
The club requested waivers on guard Desmon Farmer and center Andreas Glyniadakis on Thursday, trimming the roster to 13 players and giving the Sonics a chance to sign perhaps two players to 10-day contracts.
One of those 10-day contracts could be offered to former All-Star Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway, who worked out for Sonics coach Bob Hill on Dec. 18 and impressed club officials with his conditioning and mobility. He is nearly five years removed from microfracture surgery on his right knee and has been impressive in workouts in Houston.
The Sonics did not have to make decisions on Farmer and Glyniadakis until Wednesday, which gives a strong indication they could sign Hardaway today and he could potentially be in uniform for tonight's game with the New York Knicks .
The team's brass met before Thursday's practice at the Furtado Center and Hill said they would meet again during the afternoon for "Phase 2" of their plan.
Hill has been clamoring for a starting center while Hardaway could provide some scoring punch in limited minutes off the bench.

I'd like to see it happen. The last time he saw regular minutes he showed he could be at least a capable role player.

i would really love for penny hardaway to make an NBA return and get some quality minutes. he's still one of my favorite players and i dont want to see a guy's career end on a sour note, especially one who had lots of expectations.

Penny coming back is great. Penny Hardaway is my favourite player and I hope that he gets to get in uniform for tonight's game!

I read that article this morning. I'm hoping he'll be able to do some good things in Seattle.

The Sonics game is taking place at the moment, unfortunetly i can't find Penny in any of the boxscores or the like. Whilst i'm really hoping he get's yet another chance in Seattle i've come to expect little from him, his been around much too long.

very good news
Penny deserves a new chance in the NBA.
He was an incredible player before being injured

Penny went down hard after losing Shaq. At least Grant Hill had injuries as an excuse.

You'd think Penny's knee surgeries and constant injury problems would be basis for having the injury excuse but I guess not.

Penny had great court vision. So even without athleticism, I think, at the very least he could still be a good floor general/veteran leader for any young team.

What do you call microfracture surgery on his knee? That's pretty much the worse surgery a player can have in the NBA and still play ball. That's what destroyed the careers of McDyess, Chris Webber, Allan Houston, etc..
