Krstic out for the season

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New Jersey Nets center Nenad Krstic will miss the rest of the season because of a torn knee ligament.

The 7-footer was hurt during the third quarter of Friday night's game against the Los Angeles Lakers. The team announced Saturday he had a tear of his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Krstic caught a pass from Richard Jefferson in the lane and started to back Lakers center Kwame Brown toward the basket. But he fell to the court, clutching his knee.

Krstic is averaging 16.4 points and 6.8 rebounds this season. In his three years in the NBA with New Jersey, he has averaged 12.4 points and six rebounds.

The team did not announce when Krstic would undergo surgery.

"It is very unfortunate for Nenad as well as the team to lose a player of his magnitude," said Nets general manager Ed Stefanski. "Nenad is a wonderful young man and a tireless worker. This will be another challenge for him and I know that he will be up to the task."

Ironically, Krstic had taken last summer off from playing internationally for Serbia and Montenegro for the first time in several years in order to rest his body for the NBA season.

"I just feel so bad for him because he took the time off to rest and be ready for the season," said teammate Vince Carter. "And to prepare himself for the season and this team. It's unfortunate."

Well Krstic has been an important piece for the Nets who have been struggling early on this season. With him gone, Iverson gone, Pierce out for a month, what the hell is going to happen to the Atlantic division??

Can the Raptors win there first division title? lol
Can the knicks uhh. ok might be pushing it. Been saying that for 3yrs now
Nets probably might still be the winner but surely no run away like last year

Damn this is one crappy division, wonder who'll win it.

Wow thats sad. Kristic has really improved each year he's been in the league, and with the parody that is the Eastern Conference, he was probably an All-Star reserve. Hopefully this isn't a recurring injury like what Grant Hill or Penny Hardaway had.

Raptors are gonna take it. . .I'm still shocked that we are winnin down the stretch. . .What kind of Raptors team is this LOL. They don't win games

Great. My 2 big men in fantasy are Kristic and Marcus Camby.

nah it was only an ACL tear... surgery should fix it but he'll be back next season.
I tihnk Toronto has a legit chance to win the division... hopefully Philly can make it back.

The Raps could take the division, but will it really matter?

Sun Dec 24, 2006 9:15 am

New Jersey will still win the division.

Sun Dec 24, 2006 9:38 am

Darn, New Jersey post, that was already rather weak, gets a major hit with this..

ONLY an ACL tear... usually players come back from ACL tears a new player, in a bad way.

bad blow for Nets, as if losing all these games wasn't bad enough.

Sun Dec 24, 2006 4:44 pm

i watched it live, looked real real bad from Krstic's reaction (N)

Sun Dec 24, 2006 9:59 pm

This is a bad news indeed, I really liked progression he has been making this season, probably the most consistant player of all Nets.

Sun Dec 24, 2006 10:31 pm

Wow, never thought it would be that serious. I feel the shopping winds coming in NJ...

Mon Dec 25, 2006 12:11 am

Such a shame, all the really good big men are getting injured. Shaq, Krstic, Yao... not a good year for big men.

I guess we should see Magloire coming to New Jersey soon. They can't survive with Collins, Boone etc up there in the frontcourt.
