Back in the early 00's it was can't-miss stuff. I used to come home early from nights out almost completely wasted just so I didn't miss RAW or Smackdown.

Man... those were the days.. especially the Rock's promos. I miss those.

If you have to pick a "Jump the Shark" moment (or moments) for the WWE, what would you choose?
Thu Aug 17, 2006 1:56 pm
I'd say one of these...
- Roster split
- Buying out WCW and essentially eliminating any competition
- The Rock, Stone Cold leaving/not being involved
Thu Aug 17, 2006 3:14 pm
I'd say the buyout too. The even fucked up the invasion angle. The only thing good that ever came out was Jericho, Benoit, Rey and Eddie getting a taste of gold. But even then a number of them got bad booking as champs
Thu Aug 17, 2006 3:56 pm
I definitely say the buyout of the competition... now WWE can do pretty much whatever they want and not get any competition. And it's not like TNA will give WWE a run for their money any soon...

Pretty much what I'd pick as well, although the acquisition of WCW wasn't a completely terrible thing. They dropped the ball with the Invasion angle (which would've been so much better if they'd bought out some contracts to bring in the true top stars from WCW) but they did pick up some good talent and WCW's video library.
The roster split is the big one for me. At the conclusion of the Invasion angle they had undisputed titles and a strong roster. I understand the initial reasons for the split because they had such a deep roster and wanted to give everyone TV time (not to mention the Vince/Flair GM feud) but it's steadily gone downhill since then...especially with such an imbalance of talent as there is now.

Another cool thing about the WCW acquisition was the possibility of making all the DVD's such as the Monday Night War and it also made he DVD's of the wrestlers so much better by including their matches from their WCW days.

for all those that feel like defending mcmahon on the basis of his on-screen character not resembling him in the slightest:

Shacmasta sent this. All I can say is "wow".
On the New McMahon DVD, Stephanie tells us about how Vince wanted to do an "incest" angle.
You still there?
Vince wanted to be the father of Steph's baby. She thankfully rejected that idea, but then threw her the possibility of Shane being the father instead. She again said no.
He also wanted to put Triple H & Steph's wedding on PPV.
As for the rest of the DVD.....
I got my copy yesterday. For those wondering it's not as kayfaby (is that a word?) as I was expecting. A lot of the material/subjects will certainly interest fans, especially on the 'Net. The Katie Vick/J.R skits are mentioned. McMahon defends both, but there's a lot of critcism from others. The XFL is mentioned. Vince semi defends it and others tell us why it failed, especially Joey Styles. Vince killing the territorial wrestling feds is mentioned and Greg Gagne takes him to task for that. We also hear why him buying WCW was bad for business and why he hired Eric Bischoff, with Steph admitting that Vince did it just to say that he works for him now. The Steph-Triple H marriage is discussed in detail.
Of course there is a lot of....."I LOVE MISTER MAC-MAN'S", especially the last 10 minutes which really dragged on. Plus, there is a really nice extra of William Regal talking about McMahon. The feature is a little over 2 hours. Extras include deleted scenes and wrestlers like Big Show and Regal giving us a few Vince stories/memories.
I'm doing a quick recap, but that's the most important stuff. I definitely recommend it if you're a fan of the WWE home video department.

How.messed.up do you have to be to suggest an incest angle in the first place? And with your OWN daughter... geez, McMahon needs to go into retirement

In an effort to continue pushing the envelope he does seem to have lost the plot.

2001
Just stop watching after the July WWF Invasion 2001 ppv.
Or if you want to push it a little, stop around SummerSlam/Unforgiven 2001.
Mon Aug 21, 2006 10:39 am
I have to admit I'm considering getting the replay of Summerslam this evening. I'll be checking on the results and if sounds like a good show I might end up getting it.
Mon Aug 21, 2006 11:33 am
I'm watching it right now.
It's nothing great so far.

Lol, wouldn't that ruin it then? If you know the results and stuff? Normally PPV's have some good quality matches.. I'm trying to prevent myself from going to the WWE's site and see the results because I wanna get the Summerslam replay as well.

To borrow an old ECW chant: YOU FUCKED UP! They tricked us! Amazing!

no offence to anyone here, but i could never watch wrestling nowdays knowing its all fake, i knw ppl will think well y do u watch normal, scripted programs but its just different. i just laugh wen i see a wrestler "laying" those fake punches into a guys face
Tue Aug 22, 2006 3:24 am
then don't post here. go watch a movie or tv show...which are also fake. in fact, tv shows and movies are far more fake than wrestling. wreslting is not actually fake. it's predetermined. big difference. when you've fallen off a ladder through a table, been put through a burning table, been whipped with barbed wire, been slammed on thumbtacks, and taken a batista bomb, come back and tell me it's fake.
alternatively, talk to droz, who is now a quadriplegic, and try telling him it's fake.
as to summerslam, this spoils the whole event, but it's well over by now, so your problem:
that hulk hogan match was fucking awful. does anyone really think hogan would stand a chance against orton if wrestling was shoot?
and it's not so much the fact that he won, as much as that he's an egotistical asshole who never loses because he has creative control of his matches. learn from foley, sting and kane for christsakes, and put over the younger guys who have something to gain.
hogan no-sold almost every move of the match, and managed to completely forget about his knee for the finish. meanwhile orton was over-selling every move. the result? hogan looks like god, orton looks like that scott wright guy that got squashed by umaga a few weeks back. at least make orton look credible, instead of burying him. a kickout of that leg drop, followed by a somewhat decent finish to the match, and maybe hogan going over would be okay.
as for the rest of the card:
rey-chavo: the sooner they and all eddie references fuck off the better. good to see the three amigos weren't over, maybe wwe will listen.
show-sabu: good match, until sabu fucked up the finish.
hogan-orton: covered above
i quit: you quit, i quit, we all quit. well, everyone except flair quit. melina quit, the ref quit, foley quit, the medical staff quit....wtf is that?
batista-booker: why the fuck was this before dx-mcmahons? it's a fucking main event. another retarded finish. followed by a retarded triple-power-bomb-with-only-one-actual-powerbomb.
dx-mcmahons: goals for match:
bury spirit squad: check.
bury mcmahons: check.
recreate as much nostalgia as physically possible: check.
make triple h look like some energy-regenerating superhero: check.
make shawn michaels look impervious to pain: check.
come up with another fucked finish: check.
edge-cena: skipped over this match just to see the finish. again, retarded, although it should avoid a triple-title-change in the next couple of weeks.
overall, this deserves one loud chant of YOU FUCKED UP!
i feel sorry for anyone who actually wasted money on this PPV.

Not really. If the product was at a higher level I'd avoid spoilers but these days I'd rather check out the results and/or impressions before spending the money. As I've said before Wrestlemania's the exception, I'll order that one without seeing the results first and the last two years I haven't been rostered on to work those two Mondays so I've been able to watch it live.
I didn't end up getting Summerslam. I might resist the spoilers and watch RAW tomorrow though since I'll be home by the 5:30 PM replay.
Tue Aug 22, 2006 8:29 pm
Did anyone notice how when Sabu fucks up it really shows in his facial expression? He looks like he's really stunned and it really fucks up his frame of mind. At times he just stared at the big show. Happened during the last ECW episode and it happened in Summerslam.
I was sleepy near the end of the PPV. Who was DX talking to in that room? I'm guessing it was Kane. and did he come out to help them in the end? How about Umaga? Did he come out? or did the mystery guy knock him out before the match?
Tue Aug 22, 2006 9:22 pm
dx was talking to kane. he got pissed off. umaga came out at the end of the match, kane beat him up and took him backstage.
dx won, naturally. michaels hit SCM on shane o mac halfway through coast to coast. about the only decent moment of the night.
Tue Aug 22, 2006 9:28 pm
Oh yeah...I think I skipped that part jst to see the finish. And I thought Kane was getting a title push...but no...he's gonna job to Uuuuuuumagaaaa...
Sun Aug 27, 2006 5:00 pm
Wow... about time Kurt Angle decided to take time off.. he just got released

Hope to see him back in the ring someday.
Mon Aug 28, 2006 12:25 pm
That's a shame but considering the punishment he put himself through and the toll it's taken on him, it seems it's for the best. I too hope he can one day return.
