Sebastian Telfair wants Celtics to unretire #31

Boston Herald - Recently acquired point guard Sebastian Telfair wants to ask Celtics legend Cedric Maxwell to request that the Celtics unretire his jersey number 31.

Telfair has always worn the number because he’s from 31st Street in Brooklyn, but the number was retired by the Celtics in Maxwell's honor.

“I just got his phone number,” Telfair said. “I’m going to call him.”

What a moron.. that's quite possibly one of the most disrespectful things you could do. That's like JR Smith asking the Bulls to retire #23.

I just read this on RealGM. Who exactly does he think he is :?

Well he has a movie, Maxwell doesn't.. I think he's just kidding

Do you have a link for this? I have to believe he's joking.

Wow, he's smart. Asking a Celtics legend to unretire a number just because he was from some stinking street address? He's gonna have a lot of hate mail.

well he is related to marbury..

they should just send him away to the NBDL for laughs

That's like JR Smith asking the Bulls to retire #23.

Not quite. Jordan was the best.

Wed Jul 12, 2006 6:19 am

Ya its not like Telfair knows anything about the guy who wore 31.

Wed Jul 12, 2006 6:28 am

That guy should laugh in his face. What a cocky guy, hasnt even made a big enough name for himself yet.

Wed Jul 12, 2006 6:30 am

Telfair hasn't even started 31 games in a season yet, so I think it is quite egotisitical of him to ask of Boston to unretire a number for him, especially since it is a sign of respect and sort of sacred to have a jersey retired in the rafters.

Wed Jul 12, 2006 6:40 am

At least he has a good excuse "don't worry Ced, they won't retire MY 31 anyway so you'll still be the only one.."

Wed Jul 12, 2006 6:54 am

I think he should just go with 30 (his reported summer league jersey number, which can be found here.) Shaq didnt get 32 with the Lakers, neither did Karl Malone, so why does he believe that he should be able to take a guys retired jersey number?

   what a jackass

It seems this kid is still stuck in 2003 and thinks he's still worth a lick. Someone give him a chin check and wake him the fuck up.

Wed Jul 12, 2006 7:12 am

I would like to hear that phonecall.... Hi, I'm Sebastian, would you like Boston to unretire your jersey in my favour...

Wed Jul 12, 2006 8:13 am

hah, what a dumbass. hes got no chance

Wed Jul 12, 2006 1:12 pm

what an idiot, he cant just come in and take over like that

Wed Jul 12, 2006 1:59 pm

That certainly shows a lack of respect for Cedric "Cornbread" Maxwell, the MVP of the 1981 Finals.

Wed Jul 12, 2006 2:25 pm

Not happenin Bassy. Dumbass. Even big superstars won't do that...

Wed Jul 12, 2006 3:39 pm

It'll be funny if he just refuses to play if he can't get the number he wants and demands a trade. It will be just another Steve Francis.

LMFAO . ..I know right

Wed Jul 12, 2006 6:50 pm

who's got more chance? telfair or the guy sueing MJ?

Wed Jul 12, 2006 10:41 pm

Now I'm 100% sure that he is related to Marbury

Wed Jul 12, 2006 10:45 pm

Telfair's an idiot....for him to even ask that, is a lack of respect for the tradition of the game & its elders (N)

here's hoping Delonte & Rondo play all the minutes at PG in Beantown

I hope Cornbread tells him where to go. I can't take some of these young players. Sh!t, I don't think he'll even last in Boston.

Telfair's a legend in his own mind, just like his cousin "Starbury".
