in my poinion dallas got the better end, daniels is turnover prone, and imho, is a lil overrated... meh, i dont care, as for this being the stupidest deal in the world, no, that would be rudy gay for battier, stupid gm carrol dawson
Fri Jul 07, 2006 2:18 am
Little thoughts from me:
I believe this move is good for Dallas, only refering to the last trades/signings they made. After that wild trading time with Howard, Walker, Jamison, van Exel... in Dallas they cooled down and nearly all their additions were nice fits (e.g. Diop - who thought he could come out that way?).

fgrep15 wrote:Daniels was the odd man out in Dallas, this move is good for him. With Peja gone, Granger should be starting now, and Daniels can backup him and Jackson at the 2/3.
For Dallas they're basically not bringing back KVH now, and this is probably for cap purposes, not really much of a basketball move.
With this move being made, Jack is most definitley gone. Marquis will be starting.
Fri Jul 07, 2006 5:23 am
but who would they trade Jack for? Will there be many takers?
Fri Jul 07, 2006 7:15 am
They will probably try to trade for Harrington or Wells..I personally would like to see Brent Barry or someone of his caliber to come in Indianapolis. We need at least another shooter besides Saras
Fri Jul 07, 2006 7:51 am
Saras shot the lowest percentage on the team last year, I wouldn't exactly call him a shooter.
If Brent Barry became a Pacer I think I might throw up all over myself. That would be incredibly stupid.
Jack would be a perfect fit for Denver, but the only players that interest me on Denver are Dre Miller and Marcus Camby. However, Dre isn't really a good fit anymore, because with a Dre/Quis backcourt, there isn't any outside shooting at that team would get zoned to death.
I'd love to go after Mike James. I'd be willing to offer any combonation of Foster/Tinsley/AJ/Fred Jones (in S&T)/Jack, and then whatever peices aren't used in that deal would be offered to Atlanta for Al.
If Mike James is indeed going to Houston or Dallas, then I'd love to sign Marcus Banks.
Fri Jul 07, 2006 8:41 am
I might throw up all over myself if James was signed

Come on, the guy is obviously a cancer for any team. He jacks up those shots. Hell, Jermaine won't get any ball downlow. Only points he's getting are off James' misses

I mean, don't get me wrong, he's extremely dangerous when on fire, but even then he doesn't involve his teammates. Marcus Banks is another story though.
Yeah, i know Saras sucked from long-range last season but i'm very optimistic that (with solid minutes (meaning with Tinsley gone)) he will regain his old form he had in Europe prior to NBA. Back then he could kill you from anywhere on the floor.
I just don't see Pacers as a true contender without someone who can hit the outside shot. They NEED a sharpshooter. Oh, can you tell me how good is Jimmie "Snap" Hunter? Is he an outside threat?
Marcus Camby on the one hand seems like a heck of a deal, but on the other i'm worried about him being too injury-prone. I'd like someone a la Steven Hunter in exchange for Pollard/Foster..
Indy, do you think that Pacers can be a dangerous team without a shooter? I don't

...
Fri Jul 07, 2006 9:10 am
Maybe they'll sign Kevin Pittsnogle, he can hit 3's.
Fri Jul 07, 2006 12:24 pm
i was just talking to this mav fan in one of my nba live leagues and he was talking up mike james like crazy.. how blind are mavs fans.
Fri Jul 07, 2006 12:26 pm
Don't bash Croshere, he's been solid in his Pacers career. Both teams got good players.
Maybe it's a good thing that Pacers don't have great 3 point shooting. . they won't fall in love with that!! I've seen Mike James play in Toronto all year, and I don't want him near the Pacers
Fri Jul 07, 2006 12:46 pm
I don't think they are going to trade Stephen Jackson. I think he's alright, he has no control over his tempers and outbursts, but he's still a solid scorer, something the Pacers need.
Fri Jul 07, 2006 1:07 pm
I hope the Pacers let Fred Jones go, he's just a tweener with a shaky jumpshot, nothing special. I don't know why the Pacers drafted him so high.
Fri Jul 07, 2006 1:20 pm
Fred Jones is alright. . I think they drafted him cause he's a good perimeter defender, and he provides good energy off the bench!! Plus he's the only high flyer on the Pacers, I think they should keep him though, especially now that Pacers are gonna Fast Break and have a more up-tempo style of play, that's his game right there
Fri Jul 07, 2006 2:06 pm
ThaLiveKing wrote:Fred Jones is alright. . I think they drafted him cause he's a good perimeter defender, and he provides good energy off the bench!! Plus he's the only high flyer on the Pacers,
I guess you don't realize the Pacers now have a guy nicknamed flight.
I think he'll do a fine job filling in the spot of high flyer.
LiveKing, Jack is gone. Book it. If Jack returns to the Pacers next season, I will never post at these forums again. He's gone.
I'm not saying I hate Jack, in fact I love the guy, the fact of the matter is that he's gone though.

Well, it looks like James is headed to Houston so it's moot point anyways. I can't really disagree with any point you made there, but I'd still be willing to take the gamble on James because as you said:

And you are completely correct.
_marsal wrote:Yeah, i know Saras sucked from long-range last season but i'm very optimistic that (with solid minutes (meaning with Tinsley gone)) he will regain his old form he had in Europe prior to NBA. Back then he could kill you from anywhere on the floor.
Great, I sure as hell hope so. I think regardless of who we get we need to have 3 point guards next season, and one of them should be Saras. Either AJ or Jamaal is moved. I know I keep advocating Tinsley being traded, but I really wouldn't mind him being back next season as long as he isn't the starter. If one of those two (Tinsley or Saras) plays up to the level that they are capable of, plus a guy like Marcus Banks, then we have 3 solid point guards, plus another good ball handler in Quis. All of a sudden we have an extremely deep backcourt, and maybe we can make a trade deadline move for a big using one of those guys. In fact, I may have just convinced myself that I'd rather bring back Jamaal then AJ.
_marsal wrote:I just don't see Pacers as a true contender without someone who can hit the outside shot. They NEED a sharpshooter. Oh, can you tell me how good is Jimmie "Snap" Hunter? Is he an outside threat?
Snap can definitley shoot the ball, but he simply isn't really an NBA player. I wouldn't mind him as Eddie Gill's replacement though.

I'd love to get Camby, but I've seen nothing pointing to him being available this offseason. Its too bad though, because he'd be a perfect fit next to JO. I'd MUCH rather get Camby then Harrington, but I don't see it happening.
As for Steven Hunter, I like him, but I'd rather give David Harrison the minutes. Once he gets minutes, and is able to control his temper the refs will take the bullseye off his back and he'll be able to settle into his game. I can't wait for him to get in to a comfortable position, because he's got a helluvalot of talent. I know it may sound stupid but HULK, JO and Danny are the only guys I DEFINITLEY don't want moved this offseason.
Jae, Andrew, Yohance, or some other mod: can you guys merge this thread with the Pacers offseason thread? I'd like to be able to keep all of my Pacers discussions in that thread, so I don't have to keep hopping back and forth, and making the same points twice.

I love Jamaal but i think trading is the only right thing for Pacers because of his injuries. I think he's (when healthy) a top 5 point guard in the leauge. But he's always injured. Do we really want another Jonathan Bender on our team?

Yeah, i agree that Harrison is a keeper. He could really become a monster.
Hm, i agree with not trading Danny and D.H. but JO? I don't know. He's too much of a talker, if you know what i mean. I actually wouldn't mind him staying nor being traded. I'm still dreaming of that JO, Tinsley, Jax for KG /+ Banks deal

I personally don't wanna see D.H., Granger, Saras and Freddie getting traded.
Sat Jul 08, 2006 1:41 pm
I really hope Mitch Kupchak offers Chris Mihm for Fred Jones or even Tinsley.
Fred Jones would probably be a good triangle fit.
Sun Jul 09, 2006 1:20 am
That deal would suck big time for the Pacers
Sun Jul 09, 2006 8:33 am
It would? The lakers can give the pacers expiring contracts. These expiring contracts will land the pacers Al Harrington.
Sun Jul 09, 2006 10:31 am
I mentioned JT for Chris Mihm earlier in this thread. I wouldn't mind that trade. S&T Fred Jones for Mihm would be even better. If we can get Mihm then we can let Pollard go, or use him in a S&T as a throw in, Use a Mihm/Harrison rotation at Center, and if Jeff Foster is still here, let him play no minutes at Center and have him back up Jermaine, because he is a HELL of a lot better playing the 4.
Sun Jul 09, 2006 4:41 pm
Tell me what you guys think of this:
I don't know if the salaries would match up, but I guess it depends on what Marcus Bank's S&T would be.
Indiana Trades:
Jeff Foster
Jamaal Tinsley
Stephen Jackson
Recieves:
Marcus Banks (S&T)
Wally Szczerbiak
Boston Trades:
Wally Szczerbiak
Theo Ratliff
Delonte West
Recieves:
Jeff Foster
Stephen Jackson
Eddie Griffin
Rashad McCants
Minnesota Trades:
Eddie Griffin
Rashad McCants
Recieves:
Jamaal Tinsley
Delonte West
Theo Ratliff
Why for us:
Wally would help in the shooting aspect a lot. He's a guy that can knock down threes, and will stretch the defense. I think he's actually an underrated player, just a step down from Peja. Marcus Banks is one of those hidden gem type players, and him combined with Marquis could be a very dangerous backcourt.
Why for Boston:
Boston gets a lot of talent back in this deal. They are supposedly shopping Wally, and with the additions of Rajon Rondo and Sebastian Telfair, I could see them moving Delonte West. They get Wally's almost equal talent wise back in Jackson, an equal player to Theo Ratliff in Eddie Griffin, except with a better offensive game, then basically trade West for Foster and McCants. I could definitley see them pulling the trigger.
Why for Minnesota:
I think these are two guys Minnesota wouldn't mind moving. I think they have enough problems then to have to worry about guys like Griffin, they don't need any more trouble. Tinsley and West gives them a very nice point guard rotation if Tinsley can stay healthy. They can then move Jaric/Hudson or Peeler, hang on to just one of those guys, and have themselves a very set PG rotation. They also get a nice shotblocker to go next to Garnett in Ratliff, he just basically replaces Griffin.
Give the MLE to Reggie Evans.
Then we go on and S&T Fred Jones for Chris Mihm, and we look like this next year:
Marcus Banks/AJ/Sarunas
Marquis Daniels/Wally/James White
Danny Granger/Wally/Shawne Williams
JO/Reggie Evans
Chris Mihm/David Harrison
I like that lineup a lot.
Sun Jul 09, 2006 4:50 pm
Doesn't work for Minnesota salary wise.
Mon Jul 10, 2006 2:59 am
Jugs wrote:Doesn't work for Minnesota salary wise.
Except Banks is a S&T so there is no way to know that.
Tue Jul 11, 2006 7:07 am
Marcus Banks/AJ/Sarunas
Marquis Daniels/Wally/James White
Danny Granger/Wally/Shawne Williams
JO/Reggie Evans
Chris Mihm/David Harrison
I DON't AGREE wit this at ALL, Those minnesota players need to stay their asses their. . .I'd rather have Jeff Foster than Chris Mihm, and that point guard lineup is WEAK
Tue Jul 11, 2006 7:17 am
I don't really mind Marcus Banks..but not at the expense of Saras

I'd like Saras to be Pacers' 6th or 7th man. It would suck if he was team's 3rd point guard

I probably do like Mihm more than Foster, but I'd love to see a Phoenix/Chicago style of play with lineup of:
O'Neal
Granger
Daniels/S. Williams
Jones/Daniels
Saras/Tinsley (if healthy)
