Official 2006 NBA Free Agency Thread (Discuss Signings Here)

Sun Jul 02, 2006 6:58 pm

Instead of having many threads on minor/major signings, just put it here so it'll be easier.

Feel free to post some free agent signings.

ImagePeja Stojakovic signs with NOK Hornets

$64 Million/5 Years

The New Orleans Hornets made the first splash of the NBA's free-agent signing period, agreeing to terms Saturday with three-time All-Star Peja Stojakovic.

Stojakovic, who last week opted to become a free agent instead of continue playing for Indiana, will sign a five-year deal worth about $64 million with the Hornets, said his agent, David Bauman

ImageCarmelo Anthony resigns with Denver Nuggets.

$80 Million( MAX )/6 Years

Carmelo Anthony wasn't scared off by a front office and locker room filled with turmoil, and agreed to a maximum contract extension with the Denver Nuggets on Saturday.

About 12 hours after NBA free agency began, Anthony's agents and Nuggets director of player personnel Mark Warkentien worked out a five-year deal worth approximately $80 million, the same terms Cleveland star LeBron James and NBA finals MVP Dwyane Wade can sign this summer

ImageVladimir Radmanovic signs with the Los Angeles Lakers.

$30 Million+/4 Years

The Los Angeles Lakers, meanwhile, have swiped a player from their co-tenants in the Staples Center, but it's another Serbian instead of Clippers guard Sam Cassell. The Lakers on Saturday secured a verbal agreement from Clippers sharpshooter Vladimir Radmanovic on a five-year deal starting at the $5 million mid-level exception and worth in excess of $30 million

ImageSam Cassell resigns with Los Angeles Clippers.

$13 Million/2 Years

Los Angeles Times reported Saturday night that the guard had agreed to a two-year, $13 million deal with the team.

The 36-year-old, who has voiced concern about his ability to secure a two-year contract from the Clippers, recently hired veteran NBA agent David Falk.

ImageTim Thomas signs with Los Angeles Clippers.

$24 Million/4 Years

Turns out, Tim Thomas wasn't as taken with the Suns as he claimed he was.

Jumping at an opportunity to stay home in Los Angeles and grab and longer term deal for more money, NBA sources confirmed Saturday that Thomas will sign with the Clippers for four years at the mid-level exception, a deal that will be worth as much as $24 million.

ImageJason Terry resigns with Dallas Mavericks.

$50 Million/6 Years

Terry and the Mavs agreed on a six-year contract early Saturday morning worth approximately $50 million.

“Everybody knows that at the end of the day our goal is to win a championship, and we came close last year,” Terry said. “And I truly believe in my future we’re going to win one and bring it home to Dallas.”

The chances of that happening have increased now that the Mavs have an agreement in place with Terry.

“We are very excited that Jason is committed to bringing a championship to Dallas,” Mavs owner Mark Cuban said. “Jet is a key to this team. He is one of the most clutch players in the league.”

I think 5 years for Peja is too much and I don't think Sam Cassell or Elton Brandh will get the best out of Tim Thomas like Steve Nash and Shawn Marion did.

I agree, he is like 29 right now, and he's never gonna be playin like he did when Divac was playin for Sac-Town, shud've signed him for like 2 or 3 yrs.

He will help them and probably get them to the playoffs but he is not a leader and the veteran they need.

Peja with Divac in 03-04: 24.2 ppg and all-star game
no Vlade, sac early 05-06: 16.5 ppg and a tradable journeyman.

Divac made Peja. I'm not even from Europe I just gotta give cred to Vlade's game. The smooth passes, the 61 win season, the west conf. finals, ah enough on that.

Or perhaps Peja can be the new Glen Rice? G-Money had his peak seasons as a Hornet around age 30, when he won the all star game MVP. Similar shooting-star players. I think this continues NO's path to solidity.

Ya that'll be the day. He's too old and he wants too much money.

Maybe the bobcats sign Sprewell , they have a lot of free salary cap space.

And don't have a GOOD SG , ( felton its a PG )

Mon Jul 03, 2006 9:14 am

We all know MJ is going to suit up for the Bobcats :P

Mon Jul 03, 2006 9:18 am

Sprewell should sign with Milwaukee, he does live there doesnt he? He could play starting SF, or be a 6th man, like stackhouse was. I dont know if he would play for cheap though. I wonder if Nick Van Exel would play for Milwaukee, or big dog, or even if milwaukee would want to sign them. Milwaukee still needs another PG and another scoring SG/SF to be included with any of the easts top teams.

ImageNene resigns with Denver Nuggets.

$60 Million/6 Years

First the bad news for Nene - the Brazilian soccer team lost in the World Cup on Saturday.

But as painful as that might be for any Brazilian, this weekend ended up far more good than bad for the Nuggets' restricted free agent. He got married Saturday and on Sunday OK'd a deal that will net him $60 million over six years to stay with the team that drafted him.

This means that there is no reason for resigning the bench polishers in Evans, Elson and Buckner. They might keep DerMarr for like 1.5M for 1 year or dont resign any of em and just sign Bonzi Wells, beating the contract that Sac-town will offer.

Image Hornets Expected to Sign Bobby Jackson
"The Hornets are expected to sign free agent guard Bobby Jackson of the Memphis Grizzlies," writes Darnell Mayberry of THE OKLAHOMAN. "Jackson’s agent, Andy Miller, has scheduled a 7 p.m. conference call for an announcement regarding Jackson and the Hornets."

Wow, that's a bit too much cash for Nene...

Mon Jul 03, 2006 12:30 pm

nene 60 million wtf. overpaid dearly

Mon Jul 03, 2006 12:45 pm

Agree, overpaid or wait maybe he deserves it for thouse 3 prescious minutes he played in the whole past season (n). I hope the Nuggets sign Bonzi Wells fo MLE that they hav on FA's.

Mon Jul 03, 2006 12:48 pm

Nene re-signs with the Nuggets

Denver Post - The Denver Nuggets and restricted free agent big man, Nene, have agreed to a 6-year/60 million dollar contract.

Nene has career averages of 10.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

With the re-signing of Nene, the rumors of Kenyon Martin's impending exit from Denver are heating up

Ben Wallace offered 4yrs/48mill from Detroit.

Mon Jul 03, 2006 4:29 pm

Wow hes making almost less then Nene.

Mon Jul 03, 2006 5:33 pm

How? He's being offered 12 million per year while Nene will be getting 10 million per.

Mon Jul 03, 2006 5:48 pm

$2 Million in terms of NBA salaries means nothing anymore, so they are pretty close. But you can probably find a bunch of players earning more than $12 who aren't anywhere clsoe to Wallace.

Mon Jul 03, 2006 6:17 pm

Van Horn......

Nene's contract is ridiculous.....anything less than 20 & 10 is unnacceptable. He hasn't even showed any signs of earning it.

Mon Jul 03, 2006 6:25 pm

supposedly Bobby Jax is going to the NO as well... NOW they are a playoff team. a guy that can score off the bench that's an upgrade to Speedy... wow.

$10 mill is too much for Nene, yes....but he is worth more money than Dalembert & Chandler & they both earn about $10 mill per year....he's worth more money than Dampier who earns about $10 mill per year....so as you can say, it has to be seen in relative terms....
