Ferry says Ilgauskas is staying

Good news or bad news?

As a Cavs fan, I like it in some aspects, but I dont in others. It means our chances of playing a fast uptempo game, which would suit LeBron and Hughes perfectly, is not gonna happen. Plus he didnt show up in the playoffs, and was quite on/off during the season. One game 24 on hot shooting, next 16 on poor shooting.
I dunno, but to me, its not the best news Ive heard.

That doesn't say that he'll be with the team next year.

Personally, I think that's just Ferry putting out some positive publicity about how much he likes Ilguaskas to try to get him to want to stay.

I'm going to agree with the Ninja Turtle here. I think in the end Ilgauskas will not be on the Cavaliers next year. The real question, to me, is will he leave via sign and trade or will he leave for nothing? Ilgauskas will probably get quite a big contract (despite his age) and most playoff caliber teams can't afford that without a sign and trade.

I don't think the Cavs will let him go, I don't think he wants to leave, I don't think the Cavs want him to leave. He will probably just end his career in Cavs and become a Cavaliers hall of famer (get his jersey on the rooth, lock no. 11 and ect.). That would be the best for him, then he would be remembered+I can't imagine Cavs without him, he's just a Cavalier to death IMO.

LOL.

You don't believe Ferry when he says Ilgauskas is staying... yet for some reason you treat McHale's word as the Gospel when he says Garnett is staying. Too funny.

Here is the difference: if McHale deals Garnett he (along with Taylor) will be run out of the state and the franchise will be run down the drain. Garnett means much, much more to Minnesota than what Z does to Ohio.

Exactly what I was about to say. Saying that Z = Garnett in ANY situation is downright ludicrous.

Ditto.
I think Ferry is upping Z's trade value. I've seen this behavior from other GM's in the past and then boom! Beloved player gets traded.
HE'S USING HYPNOSIS!

Of course Ferry would say he's staying. It would be awfully hard to trade the aging Ilgauskas and his nasty contract.

It's just a GM's way of trying to increase his players trade value.

Ilgauskas might not be worth the money he's getting, but he's still one of the top centres in the east (which tells you something about the bigmen in the east). I'd say that Ferry might not be shopping him, although GMs are always known to do these kinds of things and then suddenly trade a player.

he's done absolutely nothing to earn a retired jersey.

Cavs should get rid of Ilgauskas and employ a running game instead. They probably wouldn't get much from the post but that's where LeBron comes in, providing easy buckets.

Ilgauskas is simply going to be a burden on the salary cap in 3 years max. Sure he gives the Cavaliers an inside presense, but in the playoffs, he did nothing for the Cavs. Better trade him while his value's still up.

(Y) Exactly what LeBron needs.
A phoenix style team. We already got plenty of guys who fit that style well, Lebron, Hughes, Marshall, Varejao, D.Jones(but I hope he gets traded), Murray(if he stays), Snow could do an alright job, and maybe Gooden too. Plus players like Jackson and Pavlovic wouldnt do too bad in that system either.
