I agree with you on the Hornets game, not the Cavs game though. A buzzer-beater is always hard to decide, but often quite easy to tell after video-inspection; but even then, it should be given the benefit of the doubt most of the times. LeBron's move however was a play that was just so obvious to start with in my opinion. I can't think of anyone (even LeBron) that would honestly say that it's not a travel after seeing it in slow-motion a few times (and possibly having the rules explained to them). And in the end, if it's a travel, it's against the rules. If the refs willingly allow players to take more steps, suggest a change in the rules, but until then, do what you're instructed to in order to uphold the game. But yea, if the refs didn't see it (which is happening more frequently there days

), there's nothing to do about it I suppose...

I dont even think you need slow motion to know thats a travel. Both of his clutch baskets were questionable. Oh well, just another day at work for the proclaimed King of the NBA.
Sat Apr 29, 2006 9:51 pm
In my opinion the refs didn't want to see a travel, beacause it was Lebron.

..constant negative and cynical comments..thats so pre-school.
seems to me that LeBron is taking on the kobe hate a little around the basketball world. Thats unfair imo..cause the guy seems to be quite humble...unlike how kobe used to be.
..anyway
....The game as a whole had a few questionable calls. The first clutch play he made....a hand was on the ball..so it wasn't "Travel". The second one however was definitly traveling...which makes up for ruffin not getting called for the foul.

Now thats not very fair. Ruffin's foul was after the fact so if the travel was called then the hammer time wouldnt have even mattered.

Lebron 41 points .Great game overall, the game winning shot simply amazing for Lebron.I don't know is it just me,but I have a felling that Lebron is starting to be just like Jordan.I mean 30 points almost every single night he worked on his clutch and now he's getting the game winning shot.... What's next ? A championship ring ...Its simply amazing Jordan was in college when Lebron is already in the playoffs. But I think this year he will be go to round 2 and then lost the series.Lets face it he still needs to work on his D.Its great to watch how he is improving every single day.
Imo it was the refs and the officials who worked on Lebron's clutch.

Are you positive it wasn't LeBron and King James?
Sun Apr 30, 2006 8:24 am
you didn't need a replay to catch that 4 step move by James. and that is not an action where you say "let the players decide the game". there was no contact from the opponent- it was in plain view to see. he got 4 steps. blow the whistle and make the call. that's just embarrassing no call was made and even the commentators doing the game didn't even question if it was a travel
the play before that was a jump ball, foul... just call something. you can't make your move like that and still end up with the ball in your possession without some kind call being made
call me a hater lol ...
not even Jordan was allowed to get away with 4 steps, despite being allowed to push off haha
Sun Apr 30, 2006 3:21 pm
Wow, what a travel, but it's the ref's fault for not calling it, not Lebron's.
Sun Apr 30, 2006 3:52 pm
these Jordan comparisons need to stop.
Sun Apr 30, 2006 4:45 pm
I'm more impressed on a winning jumpshot than on a 4-step drive.
Sun Apr 30, 2006 5:03 pm
I'm wondering what will LeTravel pull out of his hat this time.
Sun Apr 30, 2006 11:13 pm
I think this thread title matches the conversation better...heh
So how about this fuckin dude lebron james huh? He actually allowed the refs to not call travel on him..that bastard!! The least he could've done is stop the play and tell the refs to discount his points on the game winner..cause he traveled. That guy will never be great..im tired of his traveling nuts being all over basketball highlights and conversations. Man, i hate him sooooooo bad because he gets all this recognition for setting records and traveing.

honestly, I don't think anyone in their right mind would blame Lebron for the refs missing a blantantly obvious call....anyone could've shuffled their feet (or whatever he did) & travelled in that sort of traffic....it was the referee's call to make, & maybe they were determined to swallow the whistle & not make a call regardless....it's never good to see games determined by referees, but they are there for a reason....
don't hate Lebron, he played well for his 39pts
Sun Apr 30, 2006 11:51 pm
It's kind of bitter how the game was decided on a play like this.
But look at it from a neutral point of view, every big time player in the nba gets away with 1/2 steps too many. I even remember seeing Tim Duncan taking like 4 steps on a fast break, nothing called. Or that time when Francis took like 7 steps and Rasheed got T'ed up for asking for the travel? And Francis isn't even a big time player.
Refs just alter the rules a little bit depending on which player it is, I guess that's what Stern instructs them to do so there are more highlight worthy plays by the easy marketable players. But even then you got to be consistent, even if it's in a bad way. Because if Lebron did this move in the 1st quarter, nobody would be talking about it anymore.
Sun Apr 30, 2006 11:56 pm
rules are suppose to be rules though....if it's okay for Lebron to take an extra 2 steps, it should be alright for every player to take an extra 2 steps....honestly, I'd just like the game to be called according to the rulebook....that's what the referees are there for, to enforce the rules, not to enforce the rules & make exceptions where it will make for a better game....if they want it to look better, adjust the rules & then the refs can call the game based on the new rules....
Mon May 01, 2006 12:01 am
Well yeah it's true that many travel calls don't get the whistle in NBA nowadays. I've seen many fastbreaks with players taking a lot of steps, but that's mostly when it's wide open and the score doesn't make such a difference. Just look at the way NBA players catch a ball from another player, they seem to take 2 extra steps... That's not allowed in FIBA basketball. But in this case, it's really too obvious and winning a game this way is just not so right. Or maybe I just dislike LeBron... whatever then...
Mon May 01, 2006 12:05 am
It's true and I agree: they should call it by the exact rules, no superstar treatment.
But they've been doing that for years now, so you can complain about one certain situation when there's tons more, even though they're much less deciding.
It's funny though how the USA team usually gets a lot of travels called at the Olympics..

that it is

guess they're just not use to the 1 & a half step rule

This actually isnt a very good title as the people here barely blamed Lebron for that, instead questioning the refs decision.
But honestly, I kinda hate how those dickheads on espn ride on Lehype's dick so much, particularly making the questionable shot look like the greatest game winner of all time.

ride on Lehype's dick so much
Amazing how someone can contradict themselves so greatly in just one post. A comment like that is EXACTLY why this thread title is appropriate. I'm not saying i have a huge problem with the LeBron hating...thats what this forum is for..people can say whatever they want within the rules. I just think that if this thread is going to be filled with negative lebron comments...rather than locking it for being off topic...i'd change the topic title to suit.
Mon May 01, 2006 12:47 am
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Lebron. Just that those guys from espn are over-hyped about him, and they try to make his negatives look positives more often than not. He's no doubt one of the best players on the planet, but as professional as the analysist should be, their articles are just too biased for my liking.
Mon May 01, 2006 12:57 am
if refs actually started to call travels then the players would get whistled on so many possessions. I mean, guys catch the ball, shuffle their feet and then dribble.
There's too many unforced travels in the NBA as it is, guys just lack fundamentals of basketball (or can't count).
Palming doesn't get called either and defensive 3 seconds is barely governed too.
Mon May 01, 2006 1:32 am
LeBron flat out travelled on that last play. I feel bad for Washington, it must've sucked to be a Wizards fan watching that game.

Associated Press - According to the Associated Press, the Wizards believe that the Cavaliers, or more specifically LeBron James, have an unfair advantage the way the referees favor calls involving the young star.
Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said Saturday, what he thinks should have been a traveling call is part of a pattern of James getting protection from referees. He said that's the type of help Washington's own All-Star, Gilbert Arenas, isn't receiving in the first-round Eastern Conference series that Cleveland leads 2-1.
"I'm not going to get fined for saying what's obvious. Everybody sees it," Jordan said after practice ahead of Sunday's Game 4 against the Cavaliers.
"I want to give all the credit to Cleveland, [coach] Mike Brown and his staff and their players, but the truth is the truth. I want our players to understand that we did a lot of things to win the game, and because a travel wasn't called, you don't win the game."
James banked in a 4-footer with 5.7 seconds left after moving past Antonio Daniels and drawing contact from Michael Ruffin, the shot providing the final margin as Cleveland beat Washington 97-96 to reclaim home-court advantage in the best-of-seven series.
