The "increased minutes equals better stats" argument is there, but he still came through with the opportunity given to him, and if that's the standard very few MIP award winners of years gone by truly deserve the honour.

Yea, but if you saw him in Euro, he had improvements there already, so it definately wasn't just a minutes thing.

PER min from 04-05: 9.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists

Obviously showing he already had capabilities. Moving to a big man position increases the rebounds, better teammates, and better system increases the assists, and his own improvement in his shooting helped the scoring. Also like I said in the other thread, driving against PF/C's when the floor is spread so well is easier than driving against PG's and SG's when teams don't have to look out for three point shooters.

he didn't just improve points. Steve nash can't help you rebound, and can't(necessarily) help you get assists. Or steals. Or blocks. Diaw improved in basically everything. The only stuff Nash can help you improve with is FG%, points, possibly assists, and possibly steals. But David West has Chris Paul, too. He's budding into a Kidd/Nash esque player

I don't disagree, I picked him to win and thought he was deserving. I was referring more to the fact that argument seems to come up with MIP every time because they generally see an increase in minutes and a more important role on the team. The same can be said about Diaw, at least superficially, but if we're to hold the MIP to that standard then very few winners necessarily deserve the honour.
