Statistically looking at both players rooking season it appears that the two have very similiar stats. Charlie V averaged 5 less minutes a game however putting up aprox. 1.5 more points per game, 1 less rebound, about the same assists on higher field goal accuracy. Charlie exhibits more range being a threat behind the 3 point line something Chris bosh hardly possesses however Bosh was a better shot bloccker (1.4 bpg compared to Charlies .79). I'm not saying, Charlie V is gonna be better, it just seems to me that Chris had more media attention in his rookie season than Charlie. People are worried about Bosh not signing again with Toronto which I agree would be bad to the organization, however they do have a legitamate rookie following in Bosh's footsteps as a backup. Ill leave the discussion to you on how you think Charlie will pan out over his career.

I think you've got to take into account the fact that they're the same age... Bosh has been in the L for 3 seasons, meaning he was about 3 years younger than Charlie when he put up those numbers. Not to mention he had to share the rock with Vince Carter in his rookie season.
Thu Apr 20, 2006 1:02 pm
Should they trade 1 of them? It just doesnt make sense to me having 2 promising player to play in the same position.
Thu Apr 20, 2006 1:05 pm
charlie's getting most his mins at SF now
Thu Apr 20, 2006 1:11 pm
Ok, i missed that.

I watch every Bulls game I can, Bulls played Toronto, and Villanueva was very good tonight.

. . . Not to mention he had to share the rock with Vince Carter in his rookie season.
yeah but charlie had to share the ball with bosh this season as well as with mike james and an improved mo pete, and bosh is averaging just as many points as carter did in bosh's first season if I'm not mistaken.

I think they'll both be good. All Toronto needs is a solid defender at center who can grab rebounds, and sure up the point guard position. I dont think Calderon has proven quite enough yet to completely run the team next year... maybe he could platoon with a veteran PG (sorta like Cassell and Livingston for LAC) and then take over the next year.
Right now, I'd rather have Bosh. Not too many dominant power forwards in the east, and so he can dominate more.

Carter was taking more shots than Bosh does now, there were other guys on the team. Offensively it runs differently, you can't really compare.

i think they should develop together
Thu Apr 20, 2006 2:31 pm
yea i agree
There is no conflict between Bosh and Charlive V interms of playing time. And Charlie V is not a selfish player who's not gonna be demanding the ball. Bosh is gonna be the main guy on the team and Charlive V could be the 2nd or 3rd option. Depending on the team they play Bosh could play the C and CV the PF.
Bosh is more gifted athletically, compared to CV. CV is less skilled, but he can always improve that part. They both have a good mid range shot, but Bosh's shot, in my opinion is a killer. A lot of the games this year, it seems the opponet had no answer to Bosh's shots. CV can hit the 3 as well. Both are quicker than most of the PFs out there, and being a big man, that's a big plus. Both have a good post game. All of this added together, they'll make a deadly combo.

lets keep it simple, no. He's not powerful enough....
Thu Apr 20, 2006 3:56 pm
no, he doesn't have the physical tools. imo he's the next donyell marshall, he's just being hyped because he's a rookie, new, and a surprise.
Thu Apr 20, 2006 4:09 pm
Bosh all day every day. Villy is having a nice rookie season, but won't reach 20 & 10 like Bosh, he'll max out before that.
Thu Apr 20, 2006 5:35 pm
I swear to God, Bosh > James > Melo > Wade > Darko
Never question Bosh's skiillz
Thu Apr 20, 2006 8:57 pm
I'm a big fan of Charlie's... but i don't think he has the killer instinct to reach Bosh's level.
But i do think he will be better than Donyell Marshall. More a Rasheed Wallace type player with less defense.

Wouldnt that be someone called Donyell?
Thu Apr 20, 2006 10:24 pm
I think Marshall is a good comparison, but he'll be a better scorer. Chris Bosh is an elite level talent - Charlie isn't. It's just that simple. Bosh is taller and longer, he's gonna be a better rebounder and defender and has more verstatility to score closer to the basket. CV is vastly overrated, IMO.
Thu Apr 20, 2006 10:36 pm
VanK: I agree with most of them but CV isnt overrated IMO, he'll make solid contribution in a few years.
Thu Apr 20, 2006 10:43 pm
Well, I didn't mean that overrated. I just don't think that he'll be a star in this league. More of a very good role player. A slightly richer man's version of Robert Horry (minus the super clutchness).
Thu Apr 20, 2006 11:19 pm
Horry was drafted initially for his defense, and can't really create offense. And Donyell is a mainly an outside threat. Charlie doesn't park outside that much, and his inside game is better. He can create for himself and attacks the basket more.
Fri Apr 21, 2006 5:20 am
And he can't defend a parked car, so yeah, you're probably right. Horry is a bad comparison.
Fri Apr 21, 2006 5:40 am
I dont see Charlie being more than a solid guy coming off the bench. Too bad Bosh is coming to LA(pinch me so I can wake up) so you Raptors fans can kiss him buh-bye.
Fri Apr 21, 2006 5:42 am
bosh said that he is definately taking a Raptors contract because he wants to be a leader and because he is getting a max contract.
