i set my game up to superstar level and user shooting control with no cpu assistance. i tried a practice mode and started shooting training. as manual says, best point to release the ball while shooting is at the top of the jump. but as i was trying various shots, i cannot recognize any accuracy difference between shots from this "ideal" position and those that were released in any other moment of the shooting sequence. does a player REALLY have an influence over the shot accuracy?

In the practice all your shots are open shots - release timing may have effect when you're shooting with defender in your face.
Also, I think that the difference between 'ideal' and other points of release is not big - say like 5%, which you won't notice.

so what really affects the probability of a good shot? is it computer only that decides when the shot goes in and when not?

I think it's shooting player's FG rating, distance to the defender (and whether he raised his hands or jumped - seems jumps do not decrease FG % at all though), release timing and maybe defender's defensive aware rating (not sure about the last). Plus whether current player is 'hot' (has shooting streak).
Ah, and ofcourse whether the player was fouled in the act of shooting.
When all these numbers are taken into account, the rest is pure random
