Garnett's streak ends...

Mon Apr 10, 2006 9:36 am

Garnett had a streak of 351 consecutive starts snapped tonight because the Timberwolves are tanking. Casey and the Wolves have this brillant plan of playing the young guys, resting Garnett and Davis and getting a better draft pick. The only problem is we won without Garnett and Davis!

I think this is disrespectul to Garnett, who has given his whole career to Minnesota. He loves to play and he probably wanted to play. He did not deserve that. They should have started him and played him until he got his double-double then sat him.

i agree. what a shame.

i also agree with that letter to the twolves you posted. i did the same when the Bulls were crap for those 6yrs. dickface Krause never sent a reply

Mon Apr 10, 2006 9:44 am

I dont really think that resting a player hurts a team. Its just a consecutive game streak and I think KG's years in Minny are coming to a close. So, I think they should try to lose games at this point to go for the future.

Mon Apr 10, 2006 9:57 am

Riot, unfortuately from these last 2 games, i think the T-Wolves are looking to the future.

In the offseason, players such as Garnett and Davis may be traded as from the way I look at it, they are going to go into rebuilding mode.

i'm happy McCants scored 28 points. :)

Mon Apr 10, 2006 11:40 am

I agree to. But what if KG rolls an ankle and tears soemthing? I know its a slim chance but you never know. Specially with him playing the post area. If he landed on someones foot and rolled his ankle and tore something it would suck. I think its stupid because this years draft really sucks. They should play KG and Davis. I agree with you though.

Mon Apr 10, 2006 11:52 am

I don't know if Davis is going to stay but Garnett will. They are evaulating players right now to see what they have and who they want to keep. They say there is no point in playing guys that we know what they can give. Plus, they want to put Rashad McCants into a situation where he has to carry the team (like he did tonight).

Garnett did not even show up for the game today (or atleast out by the court). He is probably done for the year because apparently he has been playing some some bum knees and since we are out of the playoff race he'll probably just rest them. Playing the limited minutes just made his knees worse. If he is okay with sitting then I am, too. However, I hope this is not the last time he puts on a Wolves jersey.

I didn't expect that part of your post, Riot :?

What did you expect? :?:

Something else, like "We're going to win the championship next year!!! Quote me in June", like you, and Indy say all years. You were always saying that he's not leaving the Wolves, and then you said that, that's why it was unexpected, at least for me.

Riot is losing hope.

If KG's knees are bothering him it's fair enough to shut him down the rest of the way...so long as he was part of the decision. If he's feeling healthy enough and wants to go out and compete, then you have to respect that.

Well, I think it's one of those things where he knees are a little sore but he can still go out there and play. He still wants to go out there and win ball games, it's just a damn shame we are out of the playoff race this quickly.

I expect Garnett to be back on the Wolves next year and I expect them to make the postseason.

My thoughts exactly. Add that to the fact that Eddie Griffin finally got some playing time.

Tue Apr 11, 2006 8:37 am

Man, I am off the Eddie Griffin bandwagon right now. The guy has horrible eye sight and he needs to get glasses but he insists that he can go the rest of the year playing without any contacts or glasses. He plans on getting lasik eye surgery in the summer. I don't think that is the reason why his shot isn't falling, though. He needs to get more arch on it.

Nothing wrong or disrespectful to Garnett about that. The Wolves really need to develop these players around KG to make themselves competitive for future. Garnett may understand the move, and besides he gets to rest his achin' body.

It really is a shame if that is the case, and he's been shut down against his will. In a league where stars will readily quit and sit in meaningless games so the team can tank, you have to respect a player who's ready and willing to compete until the end.

Well, I think the whole idea is to find out what players compliment Garnett and Davis the best. Playing the young guys minutes in "meaningless games" will only give them "meaningless minutes". If you coach them like it's a playoff game then you'll get the experience needed for next season.

Plus, the Timberwolves have a lot of bad habits (especially in the 4th quarter) that they should really break before the season is over. But with Garnett and Davis out for the rest of the season it looks like that will not happen.

Tue Apr 11, 2006 4:35 pm

who cares about the streak anyways. he's not staying long in Minnesota anyways so be it!

Tue Apr 11, 2006 8:46 pm

I think the reasons for caring about the streak have already been outlined. As for moving on from Minnesota...in truth anything is possible and perhaps it's more likely now than it has been when rumours have surfaced in the past (such as last offseason) but moving him won't be easy. With his salary and the obvious desire to get as equal value as possible in return, if the Timberwolves are willing to trade him it's going to be hard despite the fact a lot of teams would love to have a player like KG on their roster.

1. The streak would continue with him onto a new team

2. He will be a Timberwolf next season

First off, KG isn't going anywhere. Don't buy into that crap. Writers just like to spread these stupid rumors about guys like KG, Allen Iverson, Paul Pierce, etc. to get attenion on themselves. The Owner Glen Taylor has said numerous times about him not going anywhere and KG himself has said he doesn't want to go anywhere. Put two and two together, I don't see a deal happening in the near future.
As for the streak, I think it's ridiculous to bench him for the entire game. At least give him the first and maybe part of the third quarter to play and "evaluate the young guys" (or lose to gt a higher draft pick). This also brought his double double strwak to a halt at 31 I believe.

Since my thread about the letter got locked due to ultimate spamming, I guess I'll post the reply I got from the Timberwolves in this thread.

Thank you for writing in to us and we take your comments very seriously. We understand you are paying a lot of money to watch Timberwolves games and you still deserve to see great NBA action on the court. The unfortunate reality right now is the Timberwolves cannot make the playoffs and KG needs rest to take care of his ailing knees. By giving our younger players more minutes and having them play during crunch time we are developing them for next season so we can improve.

Rashad McCants had a terrific game last night and I’m excited our fans will get to see him more this season as he is turning into a very good player.

wow. big time. you got a response. I have a question Riot, are you a Wolves fan or a KG fan, because once he leaves/is traded out of Minny...
