check out some Claude Levi-Strauss if you haven't already. Structural Anthropology, for example. its not pure philosophy, but it kind of blurs the line between philosophy and anthropology IMO.

The last book I read was "Thundering Sneakers" by Prudence Mackintosh, and I felt really gay for doing it... but I thought it still was funny...

I liked Jules Verne's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea". The story was good, but it had very descriptic information about sea creature whose names i wouldn't even try to pronounce.

One of the books I liked reading the most was "En Nombre de Todos lost Mios", which translates to "In the name of all of mine" in english (not sure if that is the title in english), by Martin Gray. It is about the holocaust... very interesting book.

Since you like football and if you wanted something "academic" or anthropological you could try Gary Armstrong's "Football Hooligans: Knowing the Score". That is if you haven't read it already.
I kind of like to steer clear of that academic stuff and read something more fun when I'm on holidays :)
