Josh has been playing extremelly well as of late, I'd say better than Carmelo. He is getting 20+ points, grabbing boards. His season average is 16.1, but lately he has scored much higher than that. His FG % and 3pt % is high up there. What do you guys think? Is he becoming a superstar?
Wed Feb 22, 2006 4:20 pm
Superstar level? Are you joking? There are very few superstars in the league (about 10 maybe, no more than 12) and I don't think Josh Howard will ever become one.
Wed Feb 22, 2006 4:40 pm
Maybe in a good few seasons but not yet.
Wed Feb 22, 2006 4:41 pm
He's a fine player and his numbers are nice, but if you're talking about superstars on the Mavericks, Nowitzki comes to mind before Howard.
Wed Feb 22, 2006 4:47 pm
I do not mean superstars like Kobe, Nowitzki, I mean a more than a good player, I cosider those guys superstars I guess.
Wed Feb 22, 2006 4:49 pm
Nah more than good aint superstar....anyways Josh has alot of potential maybe a very important player in the future. Used ta remember i played live 2000 and Josh Howard stinks big time
Wed Feb 22, 2006 4:50 pm
Josh Howard is defantly not a superstar. A superstar is someone who is known outside of basketball, too. Such as Shaquille O'Neal is a name that most families know. If you go up to a random person and say, "Do you know a basketball player named Josh Howard", I almost guarantee they will say no.

Since he was drafted in 2003 then he shouldn't really be in the game, and if you created him then he wouldn't stink if you made him better.
Wed Feb 22, 2006 6:12 pm
Good role player yes, Josh is a wonderful talent but will never reach the superstar talent, maybe an all star but not Superstar

Lol...
Melo:
26 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.3 spg
Howard:
16 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 2apg, 1.2 spg
Yeah, Howard is
way better than Melo.
Wed Feb 22, 2006 6:54 pm
Not a superstar, but Howard will make a pretty damn good #2.

He didn't exactly say he is better than Melo', he said he has been playing extremely well as of late, even better than Melo'. If the guy has been averaging almost 20+ points, and more rebounds and maybe steals than Melo in a few less minutes, I would say he is playing better than Melo as well. On that note, I think he could become close to an all-star if he shoots the ball alot more but he really can't do that because its really not his team. Superstar No, All-Star Possibly.
Wed Feb 22, 2006 11:10 pm
Superstar no....superb role player yes....as Mafia said, he could possibly be an All-Star if Mavericks are winning & he has a career year....he's a perfect fit for their team....how the heck did a guy who won ACC Player of the Year go to the bottom of the 1st Rd?!?
Thu Feb 23, 2006 8:21 am
He has some points but that doesn't make him an offensive player, he's mainly knocking down assists as defenses collapse in on Dirk and the guards.
Melo is usually the one creating a scoring opportunity for himself and drawing fouls, he is an offensive weapon.
His #s are going to be good, just as Nocioni's and Bowen's #s are very good. I do think he can be as good as these guys or better, a roleplayer who can play great D & punish teams for doubling the real threat.

There's different levels of categorizations:
Superstar
All Star
Star
Veteran*
Role player
Rookie*
Bench Warmer
I think Josh Howard falls under the Star category.
* - Depending on the player's experience

Are you basically saying he's not a superstar just because no one on the streets no one who his name is?

That's a very bad definition of a superstar. What about Paul Pierce? Go ask a bunch of people who don't watch basketball if they know who he is. Or, how about Shawn Marion? Elton Brand? Chauncey Billups?

why shouldn't he shoot the ball more? Terry's scoring has been erratic and hasn't been the #2 option that Coach Johnson hoped he would
probably his biggest hurdle to scoring more is that he's the team's best defensive stopper.
howard's an above the average player right now
lol superstar

No it isn't. It is the definition. Paul Pierce is on the cusp of being a superstar, but I'm not sure if he really is. A superstar is recognizable outside of their element.

definate superstars in the nba-kg, lebron, shaq, kobe, ai, duncan, and tmac......im not sure if wade, nash and yao are considered superstars yet
someone tell me if these people are superstars-vc, kidd, pierce, dirk, stoudemire, carmelo
Thu Feb 23, 2006 10:30 am
dirk is a more an MVP than superstar, toudamare looks like he will avg at least 25/10, and hes exciting, he will prob become a superstar..
superstar/allstar sumtimes is more of popularity
i mean, i would go with the mvp candidates, all-stars, very good players, ....
but then you can agree that mvp candidates are only the best player on winning teams..
i mean top 5 most popular players now are probally
Yao, Lebron, AI, Kobe, Shaq, and then coming up are Tmac, VC, Wade, KG
Only Yao and VC don't realy belong to the top 10 players in the league
Lets get back to Josh Howard, i think he is a really solid player, i'll put him in the same catagory as Al Harington.
JHoward will prob bring his avg to ~20ppg, 8rpg, 3apg, 2spg, and a block at best, not quite Shawn Marion yet, but pretty impressive..
I mean I am not saying carmelo is that much better, but if i were the mavs, i wouldnt' trade Howard for Melo, well maybe i would, b/c Melo is better, and a potential avg franchise player, while howard is the potential best #2 man in the league.

You are like ESPN, they will only look at stats. If you compare Melo's stats and Howards stats in the last 10-15 games Josh will be on top. Yes, Melo will still get more PPG but that is becasue Nuggets are build around Melo, Where Dallas is built around DIrk, plus Mavs have alot more scorers. Howard brings more energy then Melo most of the games, plus he is not taking stupid shots, and do not tell me it is not true, because Melo takes HORRIBLE shots.

Most MVP's would have to be superstars
Josh Howard has definetly been putting up great numbers as of late.
In last 10 games: 19.6 ppg, 6 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.2 spg in only 33.7 mpg... Other big factors are .567 FG% and .636 3pt% (7/11)... Not bad for 29th pick!
Fri Feb 24, 2006 1:11 am
Josh Howard? Superstar? Give me a break. If I had Dirk and Terry on my team, I'd be averagin 20 a night as well.
Fri Feb 24, 2006 7:15 am
Don't you have to be at an All-Star level before you get to superstar level?
