For the first time?
I just got American History X,
Now that's a great movie. Most gruesome part is where he squashes the guys jaw against the curb. That was awful.

For the first time?
Sadly yes. I've always wanted to watch the first one complete. I tried watching it in spanish, but it's just not the same. And I'm too lazy to "get" the 2. I'll wait.

I haven't seen any of the Godfather movies yet either... might have to "obtain" them.
Mon Feb 13, 2006 12:50 pm
That's got to be a sin.
Mon Feb 13, 2006 1:09 pm
The sin is watch the 3 before the other 2

American History X's great, one of my all time favorites. More gruesome than that would have to be the fire estinguisher scene in Irreversible.
Jae: Just don't watch the third one. It ruins the series, imo.

same with me, I feel like a complete idiot when somebody brings up Godfather and i'm like nup, haven't seen it and they just stare at me

Fortunately ive seen Godfather, but havent seen Scarface. Any good?
Mon Feb 13, 2006 8:46 pm
Godfather was a great movie in terms of protecting the family & the business.
Scarface is every poor guy's dream. He was dirt poor, with his words & actions he conquered his territory.
It's (in my opinion) the best rise & fall story till date.

I agree, that left my cousin (he was not supposed to watch the movie, but he hid in the room we were watching it) with nightmares for weeks.
Anybody seen the Japanese flick "Audition"? THAT's got to be one of the grossest movie moments.
Tue Feb 14, 2006 2:10 am
I can't say I've seen that one, nor do I want to. Japanese flicks isn't something for me.
I did by mistake rent Ichi - The Killer once, now that was a disgusting movie. Those Japanese film makers sure have one sick mind. This guy was jacking off to some chick getting the shit slapped out of her. After blowing his load, he went in & killed the guy who was beating her up.
Wtf?

yep that was pretty damn messed up. I saw that movie about a year ago. I was getting frustrated by the deliberately slow pace/flashbacks but it worth perserving/added to the buildup to the thrilling conclusion
lol @ irreversible

I think I'm the kinda guy who would want to watch Audition
At some levels, I actually enjoyed Scarface a little more than The Godfather. Both do a nice job of structuring, as Jackal said, a rise and fall of money and power. Another good movie is Blow for that.

Is that a bad thing?
Tue Feb 14, 2006 2:54 pm
i aint seen God Father either
Tue Feb 14, 2006 3:12 pm
nah, Cy, i was just surprised someone mentioned it. that scene was just a little overboard...
Japanese style horror/suspense is nice change of pace from American kind though I had a hard time fully understanding some of them since some of the themes reflected Japanese culture- something i'm not familiar with
If you like Audition, try Suicide Club. After watching that one, I didn't want to watch those type of movies anymore... a little bit too disturbing for my taste
As far as the Rise and Fall theme... from the last 15 years, these are just as good if not better then Scarface & Godfather:
Goodfellas & Casino. I'm a DeNiro/Scorsese fan if you couldn't tell
Boogie Nights, the Doors, the Quiz show are good ones as well

I saw that just recently... and it's one of the better movies i've seen.

Things get pretty dark towards the end but it's a movie that never lets you lose attention.

Casino
Ah, I've got to add that one to the collection.
It's as if every other word in that movie is fuck.
Tue Feb 14, 2006 9:58 pm
scarface owns, i love that movie.

"Whattaya lookin' at? You're all a bunch of fucking assholes. You know why? 'Cause you don't have the guts to be what you wanna be. You need people like me. You need people like me so you can point your fucking fingers, and say "that's the bad guy." So, what dat make you? Good? You're not good; you just know how to hide. Howda lie. Me, I don't have that problem. Me, I always tell the truth--even when I lie. So say goodnight to the bad guy. Come on; the last time you gonna see a bad guy like this, let me tell ya. Come on, make way for the bad guy. There's a bad guy comin' through; you better get outta his way!"
One of my favorite movie quotes of all time.

Speaking of Japanese movies, I watched both The Grudge in the American and Japanese version, and to be honest, the Japanese version sucked big time.
I've seen The Ring (the American version), but has anyone seen Ringu (Japanese version)? I'm a little wary in watching that one since I've been given a bad impression with The Grudge, but I keep hearing it's scarier than the American version.

I've seen The Ring (American and Japanese) and The Grudge (Japanese only). I think they were shit movies. Especially The Ring's American version.
Just for the sake of it, what happens if you see the darn tape and you don't have a TV? Or you don't have a phone? Bah.

Goodfellas has got to be in my Top 3 of mafia movies. Pesci is just brilliant.
Wed Feb 15, 2006 8:22 am
they sure say Fuck a lot of times in Goodfellas too. I'm not sure which movie has more
I saw Ringu- i thought it was decent, better then the American version but the special effects aren't up to par. I wish i would have watched the Japanese version 1st
Wed Feb 15, 2006 8:37 am
Goodfellas, Casino, and Scarface I think are the top 3 "Fuck" movies.
and all are godly

Well I finally was so desperate to watch something, I rented Wedding Crashers.
I've got to tip my hats to you fellows, that's one of the funniest movies of the year. I laughed my fucking ass off so loud at some scenes, the neighbour lady came to bitch about weird cackling noises.
Seriously, great acting by Vince Vaughn & Rachel McAdams looked dreamy. That fucking nose though, that fucking nose.
Also got Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, but I watched a bit and stopped it, I'll watch it some other day.
Got Madagascar too.
Machinist is
still not out.
