You've got to play his emotional side. Get him riled up, on double teams, but make sure the help defence comes from a poor shooter. Force Kobe to give the ball up to players that aren't as skilled, and contest every one of his shots. Seal of the baseline, and paint with the bigs, and try getting some cheap turnovers, like charges. He's human. He's going to make mistakes. If nothing else, shoot him in the leg.

The Jordan Rules were just to kick Jordan's ass whenever he drove to the basket. And yes, we've said that many times, retard.

But then everybody would get ejected.

I also forgot to mention that you'd have to bribe the referees to make sure they "didn't see anything".

That was just a slight part of the Jordan rules another thing was that whenever he drove they got a triple team on him to try to stop him not fouling hard also they always double teamed him and threw hard picks at him and stuff.

Hard picks are part of the NBA, and double-teaming a guy didn't prove anything. If the Jordan Rules were that simple, then every team could stop Michael. But they didn't. Case in point, they just hammered him when he drove to the basket, and forced him to rely on his shot-challenged teamates.

I said and stuff because if I were to type up all the Jordan rules exactly I would be here for hours.

Put Prince on him. Prince does his utter best to stay with him & given Kobe gets such altitude on his jumps, he can usually shoot over guys with short arms, thing with Prince is that his arms are so long, it'll constantly be in his face.

It won't lead Bryant to not score or miss all his jumpers, but I think it's by far the most effective strategy when it comes to guarding him one on one.

If you don't have Prince on your team, then just go full force on him, it's usually midway the third quarter when Bryant realises he needs to passing the ball around, by that time the rest of the team is cold given they've been watching Bryant try to split the defense all night.

You could also try & save your energy by letting Kobe get his. Shutdown his (already fragile) team-mates. If you keep them subdued, what's Bryant going to do? Drop 85 on you? Just make sure he drops the 85 on you whilst you've dismantled his team-mates & are scoring in the high nineties already.

There's no need to stop Kobe. He stops himself and his own team for you.

Mon Feb 06, 2006 9:35 am

i'd force him to defend on the other side of the court. probably go for a lot of switches and make him so that he guards the teams best perimeter player the majority of the time. on defense i'd double team him everytime he touched the ball. really, no one on the lakers is an offensive threat so it'd be a good gamble.

Mon Feb 06, 2006 9:39 am

attack him on offence, play man on man on defense and shut down his teammates. shutting down kobe shouldnt be the priority, if you play to win as a team its fairly easy to beat the lakers.

Mon Feb 06, 2006 10:02 am

do rip hamilton type like plays and make kobe run around on defense which will get him tired on offense

Do what Larry Brown did when Detroit won the Championship. Don't try to shut down Kobe or Shaq(just Kobe in this matter). Shut down the rest of the Lakers, it'll probably be much easier.

uh so kobe can score 110points instead of 81?

Sounds good to me! :D

I'm still waiting for him to beat Wilt the Stilt's record.

Who in the world would pass the ball to Kwame in the first place? He even forgot how to shoot FT's now.

just injure kobe...

Mon Feb 06, 2006 6:17 pm

let him shoot, and hope he isnt hitting anything (Y)

very slight chance of that happening....

Mon Feb 06, 2006 10:27 pm

well on some nights this happens...

i read an article on how teams are now copying one another, double teamming him the same way. however, he still shoots 48.5% from the field. (this is how you shut down the Lakers since the teams are daring the other players to shoot..of course nothing is going in)

Mon Feb 06, 2006 11:46 pm

he shoots 45%

Tue Feb 07, 2006 4:20 am

a good way to stop kobe is for the refs to stop blowing the whistle every time someone breathes on him

Tue Feb 07, 2006 5:21 am

Put Hughes on him if he drives to the paint go to the other side of the court(maybe you will be lucky and make 2 easy points)

Wed Feb 08, 2006 4:03 pm

i think zone is 1 of the best options
