Easily the Jazz. They used to have a all-white starting lineup until Boozer showed up.

I'm wondering about that, is that actually racist? I know it's considered racist nowadays to say Negro. I actually see the term Negro a lot in scholarly works in the 1960's when referring to a race, like Caucasions, Asians, etc. So, instead of Negro, what is the term? I don't think it's "Black" but I could be wrong.

Interesting question. The only other alternative to "black" is "dark skinned". One would think that if caucasians can be described as "white", "black" isn't a derogatory term.

Right, black isn't derogatory, but since Caucasian isn't racist, is Negro racist?

Wouldn't Caucasian be the equivalent of African-American.

I'd say yes and no. It's not racist slang the same way "nigger" is or at least it became an acceptable word at some point but it isn't "politically correct". You could probably say it's more outdated than being flat out racist.

Here in the states, we just refer to black people as Black people. If we want to sound smart or "politically correct," we say African American, which is kind of weird because here you can be Black without being from Africa, like if you're from Brazil, we might see you and say Black, but not African American.

We don't really use "Negro." I guess that was the PC term for "nigger," but seeing how controversial the word "nigger" is, "Negro" is both pretentious and inappropriate for most conversations.

Common mistake is that the Celtics are a white team because Boston is so white, but the Celtics are in fact the first team to start a Black player or sign a Black player (or something to that effect). Mostly because Bird was such a recognizable figure, along with McHale and Ainge, but they also had a Black coach in KC Jones and earlier Bill Russell.

Utah is also another team that came up in a discussion. A friend of mine said that there were no Black players other than Karl Malone on the Utah Jazz team, referring back to 97-98 seasons. Then I said, what about Chris Morris, Antoine Carr, Howard Eisley, Shandon Anderson and Byron Russell?
The task of the artist is to translate for us the essence of things we take for granted.
