Pacers lose more than Artest-JO out for 2 months

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Jermaine O'Neal is expected to miss at least eight weeks with a left groin tear, leaving the Indiana Pacers without their leading scorer and rebounder.

The news came Thursday, a day after the Pacers acquired sharpshooter Peja Stojakovic from the Sacramento Kings for the volatile Ron Artest.

The Pacers described the injury as "significant," but said it was doubtful he would need surgery.

O'Neal injured his groin in the fourth quarter of Indiana's loss at Cleveland on Tuesday.

After the game, O'Neal said, "We sure have had enough bad luck for a year. I'm really, really concerned. I heard it pop. Hopefully, I won't need surgery."

O'Neal leads the Pacers with 20.9 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. When he joins the team, Stojakovic has a 16.5-point scoring average.

Indiana has a 21-20 record and is third in the Central Division.

I wonder if the Pacers will ever have everyone healthy or playing at one time. Sure doesn't seem like it. But too bad for Indy.

I was about to post this same thread.

It sures sucks that after all that they lose Jermaine Oneal. He is so important to their offense and I was looking forward to him freeing up Peja so he could get off to a fast start in Indy. Oh well.

Does anyone think they will be able to stay above .500 with J.O. out?

I dunno...sometimes i think Indiana plays better without their starters.

Stating the obvious but more bad news for Indiana. They really can't seem to catch a break these last couple of years.

This is why they need to pick up the doubleheaders more often on ESPN Australia.

Out of interest, I'll check what's on right now...Best of UEFA 2005. It might as well be the Scrabble Championships because I'm not a soccer fan but at least that will be of interest to a lot of people.

I suppose, you can't satisfy everyone. I watched the Scrabble Championship once, and then I watched it again and it was a REPEAT!! of the final.

For shame! :scold:

As I said they have the doubleheaders sometimes. I can't see any on the schedule right now but they might pick one or two up. The playoffs should be good, they had at least 3 games per week last year.

Sucks for the Pacers (N). Freakin' Indy had to go, maybe he saw this coming. The trade & the injury.
