Newsflash: Bryant To Take Every Shot
Body: Bryant Will Take Every Laker Shot, Jackson Announces
By A.P.

In an unprecedented move that Phil Jackson hopes will get his L.A. Lakers into the playoffs, the team has announced that Kobe Bryant will be taking every shot of every game, as long as hes on the floor, for the remainder of the season. The new scheme, dubbed the Bryangle offense, comes on the heels of Bryants 81-point explosion against Toronto. It will mean that no Laker will be allowed to shoot except under special circumstances. It also means that Bryant, whos averaging better than 36 points per game, will certainly win the NBAs scoring title.

Though the controversial decision seemed sure to cause resentment among teammates, Jackson didnt seem concerned. Its fairly obvious weve been moving towards this kind of situation for a long time, he said. We had to ask, who else would be want taking shots at the end of a game or in the last five minutes of a game or midway through the third quarteror, getting us off to a quick start in the first quarter.

Said Bryant: I want the ball every time. I feel I can score on anyone, any time, any place, from anywhere on the court. If my teammates would just set screens, run interference, and stay out of my way, theres no telling what I could do. If Id had 60 shots against Toronto, I wouldve easily broke 100. I dont think 120 is out of the question, if I got half the foul calls I should be getting.

While Bryants teammates didnt seem thrilled with the move, they were careful in their comments. They dont pay me to score, said center Chris Mihm, who tallied 12 points to complement Bryants 81. But Lamar Odom, averaging nearly 15 points a game, was clearly upset. Does this mean that Im the only one allowed to rebound? he asked with a raised eyebrow. Is [Smush Parker] gonna be the only guy allowed to get assists?

Then he sighed, turning philosophical. Maybe its for the best. Its getting to the point where I feel guilty any time I take a shot. And if I miss, I can feel Kobe glaring at me, like, how dare I take that shot?

Added Devean George: Look at this way. If Kobes shooting 80-90 times a game, and we lose, at least he wont be able to blame us for missing the big shots.

There will be exceptions . The conditions in which another Laker besides Bryant is allowed to shoot are as follows:

- If Bryant is on the bench.

- If Bryant misses a free throw, and a teammate in the lane has an opportunity for a tip-in.

- If Bryant is double-teamed and passes the ball to a teammate no further than three feet from the basket.

- If a teammate has the ball with less than 2 seconds to go in the first, second, or third quarter and cant pass it to Bryant without time expiring. (Only Bryant will be allowed to have the ball in his hands in the last ten seconds of the fourth quarter).

Otherwise, look for Bryant to be shooting on every Laker possession. Im real excited, Bryant confided. Its what Ive always dreamed.

I think that you are inlove with Kobe!

The text is bigger when it's not quoted which makes it easier/better to read it.

What ever happened to reading?

Vince Carter, that paragon of work ethic and team play, suggested Bryant’s performance sent a bad message to easily impressed kids.

In Miami, Shaq sneers when his teammates bring up the subject and says, "Give me 50 shots and see how many I score."

"If somebody gets 81 on me, I'm going to clothesline him," Miami’s Antoine Walker told reporters. Doesn’t the league fine punks for making threats?

some kobe hating i found on hoopshype

Pssh, he'd be sweating like a sheep on a leather couch on a hot summer day in Baghdad after the first 20 shots.

 Antoine Walker? If anyone in the league is a prime target to have 81 scored on him, it's this waste of air.

Anyways, may David be a millionnaire with a hot wife or not, I'm on the hate side :D

I hate Kobe because:
1- He's so overrated
2- His attitude

Thu Jan 26, 2006 1:20 pm

I dont like his attitude either..but kobe..a guy who scored 81 points is overrated?..wow.

He is, but not as a scorer. What makes him overrated is the way people think he's the best player of all time, a great defender, that he makes his teammates better and all. Come on, this guy can just score.

Not that it's nothing, but... that's the only thing he can do.

Thu Jan 26, 2006 8:28 pm

He can defend and he can win championships. I think he proved that he can do it, the question is only if he's willing to do it. And of course, if he has the right guys around him.

Thu Jan 26, 2006 9:09 pm

VanK... correction. He can help win a championship. He hasn't proven he can win one... and I guess that's why hes the Lone Laker now...

Boooow

Well put :)

When was the last time Shaq scored 30? Apart from getting easy baskets courtesy of his teammates, when it comes to 1-on-1 Shaq just can't do it. Any decent D and Shaq can't make a jumper.

As far as Walker, clotheslining someone would require defense of some sort...not in his repetoire.

oh? i've never seen one man win a championship ever. I musta been on another planet when jordan and magic and rest won a championship against 5 people and not having any help. He's just a scorer?..so what about all the all nba defense first teams he made?

My, my...2 pages already?

I applauded Kobe on his 81-point performance and everything, but IMO alot of people are making more than what it really is. I mean they have a t-shirt out now with him on it and 81 on the back. I mean I could see if he actually did beat the scoring record, but he didn't.

Sat Jan 28, 2006 2:12 pm

You do realise only 1 person in the entire history of the NBA has scored more points in a game than Kobe? It's a pretty big deal.

Because people like you make it one.

Exactly, its still not worth making a t-shirt over. I think Wilt deserves his respect then since he did actually score a 100 points. Make him a t-shirt

Sat Jan 28, 2006 2:18 pm

What angers me is that people claim that Wilt deserves less credit because he was a big man and supposed to dominate. So what? Players have their strengths and weaknesses... obviously Kobe is going to be a better shooter... I think it should just left as what it is. Kobe did not break the record, he had a great performance... but still, give credit to Wilt until someone beats him.

Sat Jan 28, 2006 2:19 pm

So you don't think a player scoring the 2nd most points in a game in NBA history is a big deal? Idiot.

Get over the t-shirt thing. People make t-shirts about everything, don't be a bitch. Wilt's had decades of respect for what he's done, and as you'll see in the thread I'm about to make the details of Wilt's 100 game probably make it less impressive than originally thought. Even to Wilt himself.

Sat Jan 28, 2006 2:24 pm

Can you ever try to make an argument without resorting to elementary school insults?

And while you're trying to discredit Wilt, why don't you go ahead and try to discredit his 55 rebound game.
