Since he made the all defensive second team last year.

By this I can say Bryant is one of the best, if not the best denfensive player in this league given the fact that he was once in the first team. which I surely won't say these days.
Wade is simply quick enough to get steals and jumps high enough to block from behind playing help D. And that's all.
He has good statsline but cant really shut down anyone.

Your point? His speed allows him to keep up with any one, and he can get back on transition fastbreaks well. Tonight against the Grizzlies, he blocked Jake Tsaklalidis twice (who is 7 ft 2), and caught Bobby Jackson on a fast break and blocking his shot and throwing him to the floor. :D

Very good D player for a guard with his jumping ability makes him a great blocker.

Haslem? He tries and all, but he's undersized, doesn't really have long arms, isn't really that strong, and is not a shot blocker. His defense isn't anything special.

what i like about him though, is he's a very good defensive rebounder and he plays his man well, doesn't bite on fakes. Solid fundamental defense. Despite not blocking many shots, that shouldn't take away anything from him. Kinda like Bowen and his stats, except Haslem isn't on that level yet.

What I like about Haslem is that he makes all the hustle plays... things that don't show up in the stat sheet. He usually ends up on the floor diving for loose balls.

So everyone who is quick and has good leaping ability is then considered a best defender? I admire Wade's athleticism, but him being athletic doesnt mean he is a very great defender. Otherwise, athletes of different sports will be highly interchangable, and Jordan has showed that it cant be true. You see bruce bowen, you see Hassle and once Gary Payton. None of them is as athletic as Wade but they are considered defensive stopper in this League. That said, Defence is something more than just stealing and blocking, or, being plain athletic. A defensive stopper has the will and the ability to keep the best offensive players from scoring, and I dun see Wade qualifying for that.
What's more obvious is that he isnt even the best defensive player on his team.

a great defender uses his feet, quick hands, and anticipation... if he has great athleticism than thats a plus

Actually, he made the All-Defensive First team a few times I believe, and the 2nd a couple times also.

he was named to the all-NBA defensive second team in 2004-05 and didn't make any first team. And as you can see from the quote, Kobe made the first team 3 times but he is barely a top 10 Defensive player now. For instance, Payton, Posey and arguably Morning are some better defenders than Wade on the Heats. Wade can be a decent help defender as he knows when to step in the lane and when to block from behind, but 1on1 wise he is just plain.

your overrating Payton & Posey....neither has done any stopping for more than a few plays.

I didnt mean they are the top defenders but they are still better than Wade.
At least for most of the time Pat asigns one of them to defend the best offensive player on the other team.

I don't think Cliff has the legs to guard quick players anymore.

Cliffy is too old to be elite these days, but he still plays good D, he just lacks the physical attributes. About 3 yrs ago he was a top 10 defensive player, easy!

Chris Webber & Grant Hill said that he is the best defender they have ever faced.
