agree or disagree? the should-be participants for the ASG

personally i think the fan voting concept for the ASG is retarded. we have amare stoudemire, who hasn't played a single game this season, beating elton brand (25 ppg, 9 boards, 3 assists for the 6th place clippers). as well, tracy mcgrady, who's missed a bunch of games this season beating a bunch of forwards that have their teams winning and deserve to start. (don't get me started with yao ming). having said that, i have compiled a list of people who i think should be starting and playing in the all star game. the criteria for my selection included overall team standings, stats (i know it can be a bad thing) and efficiency. feel free to adjust my list as you like, as well put your own insights as to who SHOULD (not who you want -- if i wanted to i'd have grant hill and mike bibby playing and starting) be in the all star game.

East

C - ben wallace
F - rasheed wallace
F - lebron james
G - chauncey billups
G - allen iverson

Reserves

dwyane wade
jason kidd
richard hamilton
jermaine o'neal
paul pierce
vince carter
gilbert arenas/richard jefferson (really cannot decide between the two)

I think it's fine that the All-Star game is a fan driven event, it's primarily a marketing hype thing anyway. If fans were allowed to, they'd probably still be voting Michael Jordan in even now.

There's already recognition for the best players in the league, the all NBA teams, so i think the All-Star rosters are fine.

they look good, but West seems big... a lot of PFs, but it's like this every year. I might disagree with Rasheed and Parker, but other than that it looks good. Elton Brand deserves it, finally.

F- Jermaine O'Neal (Are you kidding me? Rasheed Wallace as the starter? You must be smoking something, and whatever it is I want some. JO has been a true leader this season while putting up very, very solid numbers.)
F- LeBron James (Without a doubt.)
G- Paul Pierce (Even though I really think P2 is a chump, he's getting it done this year, and deserves the spot.)
G- Chauncy Billups (I'll just swallow my tounge on this one. All I have to say is that if Steve Nash won MVP last year, then Chauncy will win this year.)

G- Steve Nash (There's a lot of guys that could have this last spot, but he's been putting up crazy numbers is both points and assists with no Amare, no QRich, and no Joe Johnson. How good is he? Very.)

How has he not been a difference maker to the Nuggets organisation? Since he was drafted the Nuggets have gone from a laughing stock of a franchise to having a longer made playoff streak than the lakers and timberwolves.

Wally Szczerbiak-
14 shots a game

Wally Szczerbiak is shooting has a higher FG%, 3PT% and FT%. Wally is shooting 50% from the field, that is pretty damn good for a perimeter player. You should see Wally Szczerbiak play this past month, he has been amazing. He struggled at the beginning of the year but now he can't miss anything. He is taking Andrei Kirilenko one on one isolation and draining threes off of him. I've never see Wally play at such a high level, and his defense has improved a lot.

Also, they all play more minutes per game. Like I said, you can make a very strong case for Wally Szczerbiak being an all-star this year. I'm not saying he will be, but he should be.

i was going to start brand regardless because he deserves the recognition this year. having said that i had to move duncan or garnett to the bench, and i just chose garnett to sit. not a knock against KG, he's doing great this year, i just had to pick one and i decided to go with TD to start :wink:

Riot you're such a Homer. Just becuase Sczerbiak was an all star in 2002 (not 2001) when the twolves were actually a good team and there werent as many good swingmen in the west than there is now doesnt mean he should be an all star this year. Comparing him to rashard lewis and Richardson is dump becuase those 2 arent really all stars either. You cant put sczerbiak ahead of the likes of Marion, Melo and tmac. Hell, you cant even put him ahead of peja.

If Wally wasnt a timberwolf, you wouldnt be making this arguement.

Chauncey is a top 3 PG in the L, and if the Pistons keep it up he'll end up just like Nash.
