Lakers v. Grizzlies Officiating

Postby Axel on Thu Dec 29, 2005 3:46 pm

Anyone else watching this game? Half way through the 4th quarter, it's looking more and more like the officials are determined to give the Lakers the victory in this one... I don't recall seeing more blatantly wrong officiating. Kobe gets away with an intentional elbow to the face of Mike Miller w/o an ejection, and then shortly after Eddie Jones is ejected after complaning about another wrong call that put Shane Battier on the bench w/5 fouls.

*changes channel in anger*

It has really pissed me off. But the Grizzlies are up by 6 in overtime right now, so I guess they are angry too  Now I bet if it was someone like Devean George throwing down elbow, he would've been ejected.

GRIZZ GOT THE BIG WIN!

When they inbounded the ball, Pau got it and threw it away for no reason so the Lakers had it with 13 seconds left on the clock, then Kobe tried a reverse layup that went off the the backboard, then they tried to tip it in, then Mihm got the rebound and missed the 3 foot hookshot, then the time expired. GOOD WIN!

I don't really see the superstar treatment myself. Garnett never really gets the calls. He never has and probably never will.

that's because Garnett style isn't to consistently attack the basket. i still remember that game vs Philly where he almost played the whole game and didn't even to go the FT line

I looked at that game in the final minutes and noticed a blatant bad call in favor for Memphis which was the ball going out on Damon but called the other way. Guess they make up calls.

Yeah, but it didn't affect the score in any way at least. The Grizzlies turned the ball over right after that and the Lakers had a chance to score. Granted it doesn't make it right, but at least it wasn't game determining.

Oh well, no complaints after the game result. :D

My judgement might be a little clouded as I'm a major Laker / Kobe fan but I honestly didn't think it was as bad as they made it sound. By they I mean the Memphis play-by-play commentators. I watched it on Rogers Sportsnet and I was just amazed by how biased they were. I bet all of you watched it there too (or another station showing the same broadcast) and they just made it seem to be terrible officiating. The only things I really saw wrong was obviously when Kobe threw the elbow and he only got a lvl. 1 when he really should of got the lvl. 2 and ejected but hey, he's Kobe. Second was the completely obvious out of bounds. I mean the ref was standing right there, how could he not see the ball go off the knee of Stoudamire, I mean, it was even the opposite knee of which Smush was on. Even though they are the home crowd, I doubt all those people who where literally 3 feet from the players would all jump up like that pointing in Laker's ball. I mean, they're Laker fans, but they aren't blind. But whatever. They lost, it's over. Kobe get's suspended for 2 winnable games if he played, but now, unless Lamar dominates like he should, they're going to lose.

The game was badly officiated on both sides, but you can't really say the Grizzlies got the bad end of the stick especially with them playing on the road. If it wasn't for Fratello and EJ sticking up for the team by getting those technical fouls, then I don't think would've got any respect at the end of the game. Look at why EJ and Fratello got the tech in the first place (and this is just one of the badly officiated calls). Jones pump faked and got his man in the air and his man literally got his whole body and Jones threw the ball up, but no foul was called at all, but then the Lakers got a foul on the other end right after that play.
