What's up with the Rockets?

I felt the need to make a thread about this, mainly one point which I'll get to soon. Houston's hurting right now, they had 6 guys out going into tonight's game with Toronto, Moochie Norris was then injured in the secong quarter, and then - the reason I made this thread - Stro got kicked in the balls by Chris Bosh

Stro went up for the shot underneath, got bumped by Mo Pete, lost the ball, Bosh jumped for it, and then wham! Right between the legs, they showed ther reply three times

Anyone else see it? Oh yeah, comment on how much the Rockets are hurting too. T-Mac has 6 shots so far, Lonny Baxter has five. Somehow I don't think Houston's in the playoffs this year.

I was having an arguement with some guy saying the the Rockets are the pwn and that Swift, Ming and T-Mac were all better than Maggette (I had maggette as my MSN avater/display picture) so then I pwned him with stats, injuries, team standings and T-Mac's and Swift's previous problems.

And he called those 3 guys the future of the Rockets and i told him that all the other guys on the team are old so they are forced to be the future.

He also said T-Mac's 24 years old... is he? Im not sure on that one..

Meh he was a noob anyways.

T-Mac, wasn't playing with energy, he wasn't moving without the ball, he wasn't doing anything except standign there, and I must admit, the Rapotrs defence on TMAC was good.

sura, barry, mutumbo, alston who are their main rotation guys are out. plus yao and derek anderson are also out. that leaves you no depth

Injuries are whats up, when they've had at least Yao and T-Mac playing there like 8-3...and they just won their last 6 out of 7 games with them in the lineup. So no they ain't this years Wolves, they've just had a bad run with injuries (also Alston, Barry, Anderson & Sura)

Well, one of the main problems with last year's Wolves was injuries. Cassell, Olowokandi, Griffin and Madsen all missed time. Plus, KG shouldn't have been playing with that bad knee.

Screw Spreewell and Bowen. Bowen just flat out sucks. Spreewell wouldn't help the team chemistry one bit.

Tmac is not the player to build your team around at all. He's injured far too often to be a dependable all-star. I'd find a team that is a superstar away from playoff contention to trade him to and find some young, HEALTHY players to put around Yao.

Houston doesn't really have much of an image that I've noticed. If they have one, they're hiding it pretty good. I don't think Van Gundy is getting the job done, even with the injuries. The rockets really need an image... are they going to be a fastbreak team or slower paced offense? Defense or offense first? It seems like when they are healthy, they just throw the ball to tmac or Yao and watch them go..... that's not going to win a championship (especially when tmac is injured half the season every season).

lmao, on whatever channel it was on yesterday, jack armstrong said "ill say it like hockey and say that its a lower body injury." i didnt get it at first, thought swift got hit in the stomach when bosh did the pro-hop pass. then after, they showed the replay and it shows bosh kicking him in the nuts

T-Mac is injured often yes, but they're not major. He's certainly no Penny Hardaway or Grant Hill, sitting there stealing cash. Despite playing with an injured back, T-Mac is still considered one of the league's best. He is the Rockets most valuable player, and his presence in the lineup certainly reflect in the Rockets record when Mcgrady's playing.

It works, and plus, better throwing the ball to T-Mac and Yao rather than Ryan Bowen Rafer Alston, Derek Anderson, & Juwan Howard.

Most game he's ever missed in a season was in his sophomore year with the Raptors, and that was 33 games. That's still not half.

In fact, MJ missed more than 60 games in 2 different seasons in his career.

It was in his early years, where he only played I think 19 games in one year, and 18 or 20 somethign in another.

They look like they're trying to play college basketball out there, run all these complex plays, when at any time McGrady or Yao can decimate most of their matchups. When Tracy was at his best last year and during the playoffs, i doubt he was following any of Van Gundy's plays...unless Van Gundy drew up his SG to dribble around 3 defenders and dunk over the opposing C.

In contrast, D'Antoni in Phoenix lets his players just play out there on offense, and Phoenix is still winning despite having almost a complete roster of benchwarmers except for Marion & Nash.

When I saw the Rockets last week, I saw a team that was going through the motions and played like it was burdened with serious problems. That's alarming considering the season has just begun.

When I heard Jeff Van Gundy has a playbook the size of a phone book and observed the Suns put small forward Boris Diaw on the tallest player in the NBA – Yao Ming – and yet he got only two touches and one field goal attempt in the first seven minutes of the first quarter, that made me realize the playbook might be too complicated for Van Gundy.

I will take a line from Hakeem Olajuwon, one of the best teammates I've had: “Keep it simple, and throw it to me and I will make life easy for you.”

He was right!

The first sign I always look for in young players is improvement from year to year. And Yao Ming is regressing – which is a scary thought, especially for an organization that has invested a lot of money in him. He is not the loose daring rookie that played under Rudy Tomjanovich. He has become very mechanical and hesitant.
