Excellent game by an excellent player. So sad that some people just cant swallow their pride and simply admit to a magnificent performance. Oh well, it is true when they say you cant please everybody.

Incredible.......I was watching a little bit of the game on TV and I couldn't believe Kobe had 62 points. I have a feeling he is going to have the most points per game in the nba by the end of the season.

you also have to take into account that bryant scored 62 sitting out the last quarter while MJ's 69 points came from an entire OT game. im not drawing comparisons here (i can just see all the MJ-kobe posts flooding in after this), just an additional note. anyway kobe was insane this game, kobe-62 mavs-61, how many times do you see a player single-handedly outscore an entire team shooting over 50%... what more needs to be said. even though i don't really see bryant having many more games (or any at all) like this one but still regardless of whether your a hater or not you've got to hand it to the guy for an extraordinary performance.

i know dallas isnt exactly known for its defence but allowing bryant 25ft attempts in 33 minutes is kind of ridiculous. i still see AI going for the scoring title though even after this

yeah kobesteak... MJ and Kobe's games both came in different circumstances... You cant really compare the two of their individual performances. Kobe hasn't gotten close to surpassing MJ just yet.

And yes... The only thing LA has is Kobe.

Jordan got hurt in the game when he got those 69 points... So it's not like he was playing every minute.

There are games when everything goes and last night was one for Kobe. Good for him... When you get 62 points with 30 shots, you are not meant to pass the ball, but to shoot it. That's the mentality...

This is a glitch in the system... Too bad for the lakers that Kobe usually gets 30 points for those 30 shots... They would be near impossible to stop if he could get 2 points for each shot he takes from the field.

Again, no one else shot even 10 times in the game from the entire roster, so the team is quite one dimensional... But in this one, it is understandable...

This last game is a good showing how Kobe is hogging the ball, all a long. Just check the Hollinger bit from ESPN.go.com and you'll see that the Kobe ball hogging now is even worse than what it was for Iverson in his worst days.

If Kobe could get 50 a game, it would be ok, but he can't so it's not all that good.

Damn shame Amare got his knee hurt... He would have been averaging 35 points per game... That's how dangerous he was in the last play-off games... I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he comes back the same...

I think the main difference between the Jordan 69 point game and Kobe's is that the Jordan game was actually close and every single point that he scored was needed, whereas in Kobe's they were up by 35 points at one stage (albeit because of Kobe's scoring).

I still don't get why everyone wants to compare him,James or anyone else for that matter to MJ. Makes no sense at all.

yes. and the main point was that even though they were up big, Kobe still didn't pass... he kept jacking up shots for the sake of his own point total.

Or perhaps his teammates kept giving him the ball because he was on fire and was getting to the free throw line.

Yeah what's he supposed to do? Shooting a great percentage, not one player on the Mavs roster can stop him.. hmm may aswell get Mihm and Smush involved a bit more  it's no coincidence that the Mavs won the last quarter with Kobe out of the lineup. The Lakers don't have enough depth.

Good work Kobe. It would be more impressive though if he lit up "Kobe-Stopper" Bruce Bowen and went for 65 against the San Antonio Spurs. Of course , that's more likely than me hooking up with Jessica Simpson (and that is NOT LIKELY)

That's their only problem ? Three of their starting five should be second stringers and Odom should be third or fourth option on a contending team and not for over 10m per. God, I hope Bynum develops and that they somehow get Bosh. A decent backup for Kobe is also a muss. And if Ronnie Brewer somehow fell into their lap...

Bynum/Mihm
Bosh/Kwame/Turiaf
Lamar/George/Walton
Kobe/Vujacic
Brewer/Smush

From what I've seen from nba.com reports he apparently scored 30 in the 1st half and 32 in a "historic third-quarter". Why didn't he play the 4th? Why didn't he go for 80 points?

And Kobe didn't play the 4th 'cause he and Jackson supposedly agreed that the game was already "in the refrigerator" :P
