Yao Ming with 18 at the half against SAS

I am really impressed by his footwork
he's not really grabbing rebounds or defending well though.

0 in 3rd, 1 in 4th right now.
only reason he got to score was because mcgrady was not scoring

omggggggg... y cant he score anything in the second half... what's wrong with Houston. technically, they should be stronger than last year >.< alston cant provide very good assist, and doesnt cover the amounts of point mike james provided...DAMN!

T-MAc almost did it again. Too bad the spurs learned their lesson and made their ft's.

Yao will never be a superstar. He can't carry a team himself. W/o McGrady Ming won't be shit.

I agree^^^^

I tend to agree. He's been in the league like 3 or 4 seasons now...if hasnt blossomed yet...i dont think he will.

Yao isnt strong enoug, and I mean physically, and he isnt does show a lot of power for a center.

Sat Nov 19, 2005 7:04 am

Actually, psychical strength isn't Yao's problem. The problem is the location of the strength, if you know what I mean. With him being so tall, his core is very high and shorter players can simply push him out of position. Plus, he has short arms and is a slow leaper.

Sat Nov 19, 2005 8:24 am

i don't think strength is the issue. it's stamina and his teammates not getting him the ball at the right position.

he's posting up closer to the basket, regardless who he is facing. he was able to get good position on the block consistently on mourning, one of the strongest players in the league imo.

i'm not sure he can be a "superstar" either

he needs to take be like a ben wallace type of player to work with tracy mcgrady. Meaning he should be an aggressive rebounder and shot blocker and not worry too much on offense, he will get his chance with putbacks and occasional shots. Getting 15/12/3blk would be great for yao while mcgrady still scores his 28points

Sat Nov 19, 2005 9:02 am

i dont think his current skills are conducisve to be a "ben wallace" type. he's not a quick leaper, isn't quick laterally, and isn't a great rebounder

putbacks and occasional shots? imo it would be a waste not to untilze his offensive skills. houston is already offensively challenged as it is

I'm inclined to think he'll be a career sidekick, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Even in such a role, he's doing better than some other first overall picks we could mention.

Fouling and stamina issues will probably plague Yao for most of his career if this keeps up.
