mo pete wants out of toronto?

Fed Up MoPete Says Raps Need To Make Changes

12th November, 2005 - 6:21 am

Toronto Star - As the losses mount, the mood is darkening and at least one of the veteran Raptors is now going public with his disgust.

Morris Peterson, who lost his starting job to rookie Joey Graham and who has seen his playing time dwindle in five games, said something has to be changed in the way he's being used.

The frustrated Peterson stopped just short of issuing a trade ultimatum after the Raptors dropped their fifth straight game to start the season, losing 99-84 to the Utah Jazz before a season-low crowd of 15,617 at the Air Canada Centre last night.

"We need something to change, whether it's me or them, I don't know," Peterson said after he played just 20 minutes in last night's loss, missing all five shots he took.

"They want me to sacrifice and not start to help the team but we're not getting any results and at the end of the day, that's affecting me."

Graham has struggled as a starter, the Raptors are struggling as a team and Peterson is white hot about his role. The season-low minutes he played last night included sitting and watching the final nine minutes when the Raptors were trying to make some sort of run to get back in the game.

"I'm like the 10th man, you know," he said. "I can come off the bench and play for a contending team, too.

The Raptors should either start him or trade him. Mo Pete isn't a bad player... it's bad that some of Toronto's players probably don't want to be in on a team like Toronto right now.

I don't really get the point of this thread. Doesn't everybody on their roster want to get out of Toronto ?

Morris Peterson is one of the all-time favourite Raptors of all time. He likes Toronto and we like him back, so this is quite sad.

It's gonna be tough because i doubt Toronto will trade for anybody unless they make less than his salary and has 2 years or less left on it, and would play better than MoPete.

Raps are obviously in massive rebuild mode, in 2007 they will only have to deal w/ the contracts of Bosh, Araujo, Charlie, Joey, and Alvin; they've got 4 contracts coming off the books next season.

This season and next is just going to be extended practice for their young guns, i believe.

Next year we have to draft a player like Lebron James, or Vince Carter, a plyer that will make an impact very quickly and become a superstar or an allstar player because without a player like that, no one will play or wants to play for toronto.

Rudy Gay is the answer for next year . Who-ever gets him will be amazing . If the rapts get him , Rudy+ Bosh will be a great combo

I don't think Rudy Gay would solve our problems since we already have Graham as our future sf. I'd rather get a big man because we just can't rebound and we have absolutely no interior defence.

No, hes a big boy with range. If you think about the body features of the perfect three-man, thats Rudy Gay. Hes long, Tall, and he can Defend ad shoot consistantly.

Maybe the raptors can wait 2 years and draft Greg Oden . That would be great.

I was thinking the same thing.

Well there's also Brendan Wright and Josh McRoberts up for grabs...but LaMarcus Aldridge is probably option No.1 at the moment. But problem is none of them are true centers like Chris Bosh which could cause slight problems.

The Raptors are beyond repair from the looks of things, its time a new management with some vision steps in. They should trade Mo Pete and try grab potential lottery picks, I think the only way they can turn around this franchise is by going young and playing the waiting game and while they develop add some useful veterans to the team. They could even go draft Daniel Gibson or Sergio Rodriguez next season then tank the season bribe Stern get the first overall for 07 and draft Greg Oden. :)

Well they sure arent going anywhere with the PG's they have either, this year they should target Gibson and Rodriguez and then go for the big catch in Oden the year after.

Daniel Gibson/Sergio Rodriguez
Hassan Adams/Steven Smith(possibly next year second rounder?)
Joey Graham
Chris Bosh
Greg Oden/Brendan Wright

Mike James
Rafael Araujo
Charlie Villanueva
Pape Sow
Matt Bonner
Shawne Williams/Mustafa Shakur(07 second rounder?)
Veteran

They'll need alot of patience but if things go right, they'll be a very tough outfit. Im sure they can better the bench with a few changes here and there. Of course I doubt it'll pan out like this and the Raptors will end up making horrible draft picks and have Chris Bosh leaving for big money to a bigger team.

They'll probably have losing seasons for the next decade or so. To bad they have a bit of that Clippers curse with them aka 'Babcock is a fucking moron' curse. That type of things. They'll probably draft Nemanja Aleksandrov next year.

Toronto's problem is that they don't realize that the draft is just 1 avenue to improving the team. Toronto's current org hasn't made any big trade moves (from a positive side) or done anything to find undiscovered talent.

SAS:
Duncan was a lottery pick.
Ginobli was undiscovered, his rights were late 2nd round.
Parker was a 1st round, but still undervalued at #28.
Horry was signed as a free agent
Barry was signed as a free agent.
Nestorovic was signed as a free agent.
Bowen was undrafted.

Dynasty Lakers:
Shaq was a free agent.
Kobe was obtained via trade for Divacs.
Horry was obtained via trade for Ceballos/Rumeal Robinson.
Rick Fox was a free agent.

Relying purely on an endless stream of lottery picks is going to get you the equivalent of the Clippers.

IMO Toronto should be digging hard into Europe and CBA and dev leagues, the next Ginobli is out there, and waiting to be picked up at #60.
