Gilbert Arenas. Not only is he a good shooter, but he can definatley get alot of Assists. Heres his Last season stats

G GS MPG FG% 3P% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG

80 80 40.9 .431 .365 .814 1.0 3.7 4.7 5.1 1.74 .29 3.03 3.10 25.5

I know stats arent everything, but he was a 2nd round draft pick, and look how good he is.

He has really good career highs too.

Points - 44 pts
Rebounds - 12 rebs (3 times for a 6-3 guard)
Assists - 15 asts
Steals - 8stls

I think hes a great player, and hes only 23 years old. Hes probally in the top 3 for fastest players in the NBA, if not top 5.

I know Iverson is a great player, but his attitude is awful. Hes a great player for sure. But I like Arenas' game better. Also since Joe Johnson is starting at Point for Atlanta, I like him aswell.

Who do you guys like??

Isn't a "shoot first point guard" just a shooting guard??

Anyway, i'll say Ben Gordon for me.

No, a shoot first point guard is a point guard who likes to score.

Shooting guard is a guard who plays off the ball and usually gets set up for his points. Shoot first point guard is a point guard who has the ball and creates for himself first and then his teammates.

Shawn Bradley

Points- 32
Rebounds- 22
Blocks- 12
Assists- 7
Steals- 5 (for a 7'6 C )

To be honest, Gilbert's career highs aren't all that impressive at all.

Shoot first point guards are usually shooting guards playing out of position because of the people in the lineup, or players. Dwayne Wade, Allen Iverson, Gilbert Arenas, Stephon Marbury, Lebron James almost was one his rookie year too.

Personally, I love Allen Iverson. I know he takes way too many shots, but the Sixers win games. That team wouldn't be as good as it is if it weren't for Allen taking as many shots as he does. They win as many games as possible with the players they have.

I don't like shoot-first PGs, as simple as that.

I'd also have to say Gilbert Arenas. He's the first guy that pops into my mind.

I know Iverson is a great player, but his attitude is awful.

Care to explain? And please, don't bring that "practice" shit.

Iverson, then Arenas & Baron.

Well, the question is kind of misleading/mis-stated.

Is the question asking us who is the best shoot first point guard or who is your favorite? The best is Iverson but my favorite is Arenas. There is a difference.

But people will try to back their pick with stats and other stuff. So it probably will end up as a best shooting PG, with Kobe, Redd and Josh Smith involved :x

not necessarily. there are a good number of SG's that dominate the balll in order to get their points

I'm not saying they don't dominate the ball, all I'm saying is they aren't usually the guys who set up the offense.

okie dokie... however

unless a guy is constantly coming off screens like a rip hamilton type, they aren't really "playing off the ball"

i believe most of the points scored by high scoring SG's are unassisted

That's more of a SF or PF. All guards can handle the ball and make plays, the difference is the SG will (typically) handle & score, the PG will handle and pass.

SGs: Michael Jordan, Kobe, Ray Allen, Dwayne Wade, Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, Ginobli
SFs: Rashard Lewis, Shawn Marion, Stojakovic, Bruce Bowen, Tayshaun, Simmons, Rick Fox

There are some SGs that play off ball & mostly catch & shoot, like Rip, Mike Miller, and Jax but i wouldn't call these guys the "measuring stick" by which SG's are all held to.

My favourite shoot first PG's would probably be:

1: Steve Francis
3: Juan Dixon
4: Tyronn Lue

That's bout it

I disagree.

Maybe in the old school NBA and ABA games the PG would handle and pass. However, it really depends on the system these days. A lot of systems, like Flip Saunder's system, rely on a good shooting PG who can score.

But I guess I agree with your accessment, besides that little nit-picking.
