GM Survey 2005: guess who dominates the NBA

Duncan IS A BASKETBALL PLAYER, he doesn't need to do windmill/under the legs/behind the back or other shit to be a great player! He is a traditional basketball player, he doesn't do what a b-ball player does nowadays, he doesn't wear baggy clothes or chains, he doesn't listen hip-hop music, but HE IS A GREAT PLAYER

Some people here are blowing the argument out of proportion

saying Duncan is a better winner is just retarded if that's your decision of who's better.

Take a look at the personell around each player year in and year out. Every single year Spurs have a better all round team. GM's have as much to do with success as the players.

as a franchise (TODAY), i don't understand why they would sign shaq (who is on the decline) opposed to someone like kevin garnett. shaq is unstoppable and all, but he's approaching 35.. how many more years can he give you? then we have kevin garnett, who gives you everything - scoring, rebounding, passing and defense. in addition the guy is consistent as hell, meaning if he goes 9-12 from the free throw one night, he'll probably go 9-12 the next night unlike shaq who can go 10-14 and then 4-11. don't misinterpret what i said, i know a lot of you understand shaq's capabilities and i do too but if we were to start a franchise TODAY kevin garnett should be right up there.

Garnett wanted to go to college but they said he didn't have the grades. He was upset but after he declared for the draft he found out he had the grades to make it. He was pretty pissed but he had to stay in the draft.

Well this survey surely makes it look like most of the GMs are morons.

KG is surely one of the best all-around players ever played the game and just 1 or 2 GMs would like to build a dynasty around him. I would have never belived that anybody would say it but I guess I have to: KG is underrated (despite the stats he's putting up).

The difference between Duncan and Garnett is primacy. You can win with Duncan as a focal point in offense.
When all is said and done, Garnett will be remembered as the best second fiddle player to ever play the game. I don't see him winning as "the Man", give him a situation where he could be a nr 2 option (Kobe, Mc Grady, Wade), and you have a title.

Can't say American champions because of Toronto and previously Vancouver.

I do think that soon enough, the NBA champs need to play other League champs for the real world championships.

It's greatness, don't get me wrong. But until he starts winning & soon, I don't think folks will place him above Duncan.

Well ofcourse Duncan wins Championships WITH the help of two or three other superstars but look at Garnetts team it sucks dick and he is the only superstar on his team and he still managed to get it more than 30 wins.
So Duncan would have never ever won the championship this year if San Antonio didn't have Parker and Ginobili or Horry.

Garnett did receive a vote. If you add up the percentages, KG and Wade have 4% or 1 GM voted for them each. Shaq and Amare had 2 GM's. James had 9 GM's and TD 10 GM's. It's not a big deal if Shaq has a higher vote percentage than KG, Shaq is only up by 1 vote. The other 5 GM's that didn't respond could have voted either way.
(I read somehwere on NBA.com that only 25 out of 30 GM's responded. If memory serves me right.)

KG never has had team mates that actually are eager the get the ball to him. Now they have so look out for Garnett to do more of everything and get his team to an even better standing.

If you would switch Duncan and Garnett from one team to another, the results would most likely be along the same lines they are now... Two excellent post players that command defensive double-teams and clear room for the slashers...

But to tell you the truth... Right now, the MAN I'd want to build around would be LBJ... No one even comes close... He can do it all and is barely 20 years old... He's got a good 15 years ahead of him in the league and the potential is unmatched by anyone ever to have played the league... Another guy right now, would be Amare, but he busted his knee, so that leaves too much uncertainties right now. Duncan, Shaq, Garnett, Kobe, T-Mac etc. are so much older than James, that they don't stand a chance in this contest. And James still has lots of time to improve his game...

Thats what i've been saying the whole time!

Look at the 2002-03 season. Timberwolves got the 4th seed in the Western Conference, led by Kevin Garnett. Wally Szczerbiak was our second best player, he missed over 30 games that year due to injury.

Starting line-up without Wally-
C-Rasho Nesterovic
PF-Kevin Garnett
SF-Kendall Gill
SG-Anthony Peeler
PG-Troy Hudson

For 30+ games Garnett had to deal with that line-up. Don't tell me that Duncan had equal talent compared to Garnett. And even if you add Wally and replace Gill it still isn't a very good line-up.

Garnett made Rasho look semi-decent in Minnesota. Now on the Spurs Rasho is buried on the bench.
