Raptors Let Go Of Three Players
22nd October, 2005 - 5:27 pm
ESPN - Veteran guard Robert Pack was among three players released by the Raptors on Saturday.

Pack was trying to earn a spot on his ninth NBA team. He last played with the New Jersey Nets -- his second stint with the club -- in 2003-04 when he averaged 1.9 points and one assist in 26 games.

Pack totaled four points and four assists in three preseason games with the Raptors.

Toronto also released guard Tierre Brown and forward Bryant Matthews.

Brown averaged 9.8 points and 2.5 assists in four preseason games.

It looks like we keeping Corey Williams or w/e his name is. The streetball dude. Damn we should of kept Tierre Brown.

Corey Williams? Damn, it's another freaking Williams. It's like Rob Babcock wants to make a team out of Williamses. Corey seems like your typical cocky streetballer that turns the ball over every posession because of overdribbling or throwing a stupid pass.

Next thing you know Chris Bosh will be traded for Maurice Williams......

Tierre Brown is actually pretty good in my eyes . He's not "good" but OKAY.

I liked Tierre Brown. I'm sorry to see him go  I guess somebody thought he didn't pass enough as a point guard.

Why did they release Tierre Brown?? He was doing a pretty good job during pre-season.

Sun Oct 23, 2005 11:11 am

He had a very good first pre-season game, but then the aliens from space jam took away his skills.

Sun Oct 23, 2005 11:19 am

 @ both asdf's posts. What our total up to now for Williams?

I don't think they should of cut Brown either. We just traded away Alston, why'd we keep another streetballer?

Sun Oct 23, 2005 12:09 pm

wasnt tierre brown doing much better than corey williams during preseason? i think he was, and i agree with asdf, next thing you know, we'll have a lineup of:

C: Aaron Williams
PF: Marvin Williams/Eric Williams (he can play some garbage time at pf)
SF: Eric Williams/Marvin Williams (whenever eric is on the bench, marvin takes his place)
SG: Jason Williams
PG: Deron Williams

6th man: Alvin Williams

Thats an alright lineup at 1,2, and 3 or 4 for wherever marvin williams starts at, shitty bench though, alvin as our 6th man

If anyone feels like it, want to predict a record for this team? (the one i just made up)

You forgot Corey Williams :?

To add to that, we'll coax JYD out of retirement :D

lmao, true, since he misses us a lot and was and still is fan favourite, think we can get him to come back from retirement. and i didnt name corey williams because i only thought of naming the starting lineup plus the sixth man and alvin williams is better than corey.

by the way, do the raptors jerseys include the first initial of the player's first name if they have the same last name? i know the miami ones dont (i saw jones jerseys with both #6 and #19, not E. Jones #6, D. Jones #19) but if the raptors ones dont, the people making them have an easy ass time, just change the numbers. i can imagine chuck swirsky and the rest of the crew comentating. williams for three...GOOD! raptors caught on a fast break, WILLIAMS WITH THE BLOCK, here they come the other way, WILLIAMS WITH THE ALLEYOOP TO WILLIAMS!

 Nice commentary. Yes, I think they do have the initial, but I'm not sure what they'll do about Aaron and Alvin

Reminds me when I watched a local basketball game with some friends, and one of my friend played for a team that had the same surnames because the team is composed of only one clan/family.

does this makes them ... worse? :?

Tierre Brown was certainly playing well during the preseason. I don't know, babcock doesn't have his head screwed in right. Whatever happened with Graham? I rarely seen anything from him during the preseason.

Graham was injured and as for Tierre Brown.....

Grahm played last game against Boston on (Oct. 22) and he scored 20 points. He gave Pierce a lot of trouble on offence and defence.

I think the Raptors will cut Corey Williams too since they have Alvin Williams playing again... Calderon, James and Alvin will be the point guards, I guess.

They already have 14 players with guaranteed contracts and they are looking for a center, so they need that last spot...

Mon Oct 24, 2005 10:12 pm

Ahhh... so now I see that Bryant Matthews is still trying out for a team... I wonder if he's coming back to Aussieland soon... hehe

Tue Oct 25, 2005 3:18 am

yea i think the Raps are gonna go with Calderon, James and Alvin. I havne't watched any of the preseason games, but from what i read, the medical team is still only giving Alvin limited minutes just to be cautious. From the stat sheets, it seems like he's doing a good job. But from the rotation, is he going be the 2nd or 3rd point guard? i would hate to see Alvin only playing during garbage minutes, but that mighgt just happen because Calderon is also doing a pretty good job. On the side note, it's good to see Arujo doing a better job, not great, but definetly improved.

Tue Oct 25, 2005 6:14 am

Alvin is a third stringer for sure. I believe the max he was allowed to play by doctors was 6 minutes (I'm not sure, but I read it somewhere.)

Araujo had a nice game against Cleveland, and this is his first showing where he actually put some points on the board since the time he posted two 10 point games against the Lakers and Warriors.

He's also supposed to be in better shape than last season, but all I'm expecting from Araujo now is to tone down on the fouls.

Tue Oct 25, 2005 8:27 am

Yeah, the trainers said Alvin could play 6 min. It was in Babcock's game blog, he also said Alvin got 5 min in the first half and bugged him to play the other minute, but he ended up playing like 4 more minutes instead of one.
