Carmelo Worth MAX?

Sun Oct 23, 2005 8:49 am

is he worth the maximum contract? that's what his agent feels he is worth and he is a FA after this season. I'm not too sold on him yet.. he has to show some improvements this season before I could judge him, like improve defense. And also being a team leader. Wade & LeBron both show they are team leaders and can take over games, but Carmelo hasn't really shown that yet.

Carmello really isn't "That" good . Hes good , but not supserstar , hes young though . Joe Johnson wasn't worth the max , and He still got it . Playes are ridiculous now . Anyways , I don't think Carmello is worth the max , but he's probably gonna have a huge season since its his contract year.

Simple answer: No.

I think only a handful of players deserve the max, but since Joe Johnson gets the max, I guess Carmello deserves one in a few years

Hand full? Try four (KG, Duncan, Shaq, Kobe).

Only A Gerald Green Handful are worth then.

Until he stops jacking up stupid shots and learns to play some defence, then no.

But, after Geroge Karl came in as the head coach, Anthony has squashed some bad habits and if he continues to improve, then yes.

No.

That's what I meant by 'handful' :?

Dictionary.com - handful: a small number or amount

Irrelevant of whether he deserves it, he'll probably get it. Anyone who can put up 20+ ppg seems to get it these days.

add mcgrady to that.

add Amare to the list of people who deserve max.

do you think the nuggets will trade him being that they have Martin with the Max already?
They still a good team without Anthony and he can be traded for both a SG and a decent SF in return.

Sun Oct 23, 2005 1:05 pm

Amare doesn't deserve a max and T-Mac is borderline.

Sun Oct 23, 2005 1:50 pm

Yao Ming? But for Carmelo, no.

Sun Oct 23, 2005 1:50 pm

I think Melo is worth 6-8 million a year right now, not close to max. I hate when maxes are offered based more on potential than on what the player has done and will do. For instance, you give Kobe a max because he's got 3 rings, averaged 30 ppg in a season, set an NBA record for 3's, etc, but Melo hasn't averaged more than 21 ppg. They're basically paying him on what they hope he will do. Hopefully he won't end up like an Allan Houston or Glenn Robinson.

Sun Oct 23, 2005 1:50 pm

Let's just give everybody max, shall we?

Sun Oct 23, 2005 4:00 pm

NO. All he can do is just score, and not really efficient at that. He's D is not great. Compare him to some of the max payed players, he's no way near them. Maybe in like 3 - 5 years, he'll be more of a all around player and deserves the max, but not now.

Sun Oct 23, 2005 4:25 pm

No way. he hasn't shown any signs of leadership or defense.

Sun Oct 23, 2005 5:20 pm

Unless he has starts to show that he can be a quality leader-esque player, then hell no.
For starters, he needs to improve his passing, and defense. He started to show that he has a good shot selection towards the end of the season, and started playing more efficiently.
But nothing like a superstar player.

Unless he proves he can carry the team by scoring 25+ grabbing more boards, and become a better passer, and also bit better defender, then HELL NO!

No of course not, its not like he's led his team to the playoffs in the west in back to back seasons. No leadership whatsoever .

With that being said though, I dont think he should have a max contract thrown at him. I'd reserve that kind of money for Iverson, Kobe, Lebron, KG, Duncan and Amare. Tmac too I guess.

But in todays standards, theres no way he shouldnt be offered a max deal. If Joe Johnson can get the max, and no real backlash, why is it wrong for Melo to get a similar deal? Especially since the Nuggets are over the cap now and this is the unit they have decided will challange for the championship, and losing their most important piece will mean the signings of Martin and Miller were for nothing, and the extension to Camby was wasted. They need Melo.

Melo sucks as a basketball player. just give him some marijuana intead of paying themax contract and he will be fine.

Check your own sig first..
He's worth it, if the same player was in the league 10 years ago no way he would've deserved max, but with today's standards, Melo is 'worth' a max contract.

You can make posts like "No.", but it doesn't make sense. You can't compare it to the 90s situation because were simply not in the 90s anymore.
