I doubt it'll happen in real life but with the situation that EG gave, I'd say the Spurs would agree to it if they find a solid big man to replace TD's spot. I doubt they'd be satisfied with a starting front court of Mohammed and Horry.

On the flip side, I don't think Cleveland would ever trade Lebron away...not in the near future at least. Not only is he an asset talent-wise, he is also one of the league's most marketable player

I dont think Cavs would trade James cuz he such an impact on the team and he keps on improiving. THis will be only his 3rd season and hes still improving. In a couple of years duncan will retire and lebron will be on top.

I think it will be more than just "a couple of years" before Duncan retires. He's not even 30 yet.

Nah, Maybe in a few years, but now after a championship.

Plus, it would take some time for Lebron to get as much chemistry that Duncan has with Ginobli and Parker.

NO WAY! Spurs don't really need a shooting guard they have ginobli but cavs could use a decent PF.

hm, doubt it. the spurs are stacked at that position, and you'd have to threaten to blow up cleveland before the cavs will let lebron go, i mean, without him you have no franchise, and they will totally have to readjust their speed and gameplans, cause duncan doesn't play their style.
and lebron has to learn to slow down, not a good trade for either

I say without Lebron the Cavs have no one to help them out.

So The Cavs would never trade Lebron until they have another "good" player.

Unlike Carmelo...Denver would still have people good enough to help them.

This team has three all-star players who complement each other. Championship material.

C:Mohammed
PF:Horry
SF:James
SG:Ginobili
PG:Parker
Bench:Finley, Van Exel, Udrih, Barry, Bowen,...
Their starting perimeter players would all be slashers and they would be incredibly weak upfront. I wouldn't call this team to be playoffs bound. They would have to trade half of their swingmen to get a couple of decent post players, and then we could talk about competing.

plus, lebron has no playoff experience. you need more than just potential to win championships.

it takes time to gel, mj had to take some years to get that team that gelled.

spurs won't throw away that valuable championship material for a team that MIGHT win a few years down the road.

Yes, Duncan is a lot older, but he still has 4-5 championships left in him. Lebron guarentees you nothing, they might not even make the playoffs if they made the trade, so no, they definately wouldn't do it, even though he's very young and is a superstar, some risks don't need to be taken.

That's right the Spurs with Lebron might looks kinda weak but if you think back in the days during the Bulls run they didn't have any post presence either... but you're right the Spurs wouldn't do it.

This deal would never happen as Duncan is too tied up with the Spurs and James is basically the Cleveland Cavaliers at the moment, but looking at that Spurs lineup with James in it and no Duncan... It's still extremely strong...

Three guards running about on offense is a defensive nightmare... Horry with his ability to hit the three would spread the floor too for those guys. James, Ginobili and Parker are all very intelligent players and would be very hard to contain by anyone...

The Spurs team would be next to guarranteed to go to play-offs, but how far into them, that's another question...

Duncan is a big deal in San Antonio, but you guys are underestimating the effect of Parker and Ginobili have on their game and championship run... Duncan does a lot and is their leader, but the fact the Ginobili and Parker are slowly stepping up their game is basically the reason why they won last spring...

LeBron James is the next Oscar Robertson type of player... Averaging triple-double is in his range and will probably be pretty close this season already... Now he has some guys to spread the floor and guys that need guarding to help him. He will have a monster of a season.

the reason they won last spring is because of tim duncan. ginoboli and parker wouldnt be in that postion if it werent for him. if i were building a franchise to win championships i would prefer duncan because he is much easier to build around. lebron is a great player though, and im sure he'll put up spectacular, even legendary, numbers, but right now, today, if i were a gm id go with duncan, regardless of age. how many guard led teams have won championships? two. detroit and chicago, and detroit was pseudo guard led. its only natural that everyone gets excited about 'potential', and takes what actually works for granted. in the age of the guard, the big man is not only a rare commodity, he is infinitely invaluable.

But, with the exception of Shaq, Lebron led the league in points in the paint.

Just something to consider.
