Scottie Pippien assistant coach in LA?

Is this true that the Lakers will hire Pippen to be an assistant coach for the team. they say that Pippen will train Odom to be the next Scottie Pippen. then, its like the bulls, Kobe = MJ and Odom = Pippen. interesting. and they will do the triangle offense.

i don't know about assistant coach (officially, he's just a trainer, as is kareem) because i'm sure PJ has offered him the job. but on the radio they were saying how his agent couldn't work out a deal FINANANCIALLY with the lakers, so he's not part of the coaching staff. and besides, the staff has been already been made up of (don't have the link).

i still can't see scottie pippen turning LO into "the next scottie" because scottie separated himself from the rest of the pack becuase he could DEFEND. i know both have long arms, but scottie was a TENACIOUS defender, because he was overpowering for most points and had enough agility to keep up with em (times when the best opposing player was the PG, and mj would take the passing lane away, creating steals). LO isn't what you'd call a great defender (passable for a SF). offensively, LO has to assert himself more on scoring. when kobe would sit out for breaks, LO would act as if kobe was still playing and never "broke out" to carry the load offensively. the players around him last year were NOT good, and he should have known that he was the offensive threat when kobe was down.

if LO can defend like scottie, i'll be happy. his ball-handling is amazing, so the defense (especially scottie's capability of being a great defender at almost 4 positions) will be the x-factor of "the next scottie"

J- Smoove is right, whilst Phil Jackson is doing a great thing by bringing Pippen in as a coach, I doubt he will turn Kobe into MJ or Lamar into a version of himself.

He cant hurt the team though. Kobe will probably learn the most from him. Kobe is great at listening to legends. He learnt alot from MJ and Payton.

A bit off topic, but isnt it interesting where alot of the games greats have ended up in different franchises after their playing days were over. Larry Bird coached in Indiana and is now the GM. Jordan was the president of basketball operations in Washington. Dr J, gm of orlando. Elgin Baylor, the Clippers. Isiah coached in Indy and gm'd in toronto and now new york.

The only exceptions I can think off are Magic and Bill Russell.

Bill Russell did actually coach the Seattle Supersonics at one point. But it is interesting, there's a lot of greats and former prominent players in front office roles on different teams than the team(s) they played for. Kevin McHale in Minnesota is another one, Patrick Ewing of course is a more recent addition to that list. Bob Cousy coached the Cincinnati Royals back in the day (though he did actually suit up for a few games too).

The Lakers have a star-studded 'coaching lineup' with 8 coaches in total... its funny cause in one article, I'm not sure if i interpreted right, but did they say one of the guys who is listed as a personal trainer is actually using that position's name, so that he can help coach?

larry legend is originally from indiana. and mchale from minnesota. some greats prefer to work for/from their hometown for whatever reason

jordan will probably never get a GM gig in chicago


as far as pippen helping out in L.A, thats too bad the bulls couldn't keep him around. my guess is that pippen wants a coaching position and he'll get more exposure with the soap opera in L.A then in chicago
