Everyone's talking about Crawford... Sweetney was the one bright spot on the Knicks roster last season... He should have been the starter now and probably could be that for the bulls too. Chandler in the middle and Sweetney at the four.

I don't think Tim Thomas will get too much playing time unless his attitude improves by heaps before the season begins. Maybe he was just in need of a new scenery.

Sweetney for Curry was the real deal... That's was the real steal.

That looks good for the Bulls and quite questionable for the Knicks. I'm just hoping that both Curry and Sweetney continue to develop so both teams gain something out of this trade instead of it heavily favouring one party.

I like the idea of the Bulls starting Chandler at the 5 and Sweetney at the 4.

And for the Knicks, they have plenty of bigmen to choose from now that can score. The only question is whether they can rebound. As for defense, I know James can play defense but I'm not sure about Curry. Larry Brown will work it out I'm sure.

i don't see why some were thinking crawford would be heading back to the bulls in the trade. Paxson wasn't even wiling to pay him a little more then the full MLE and traded him for expiring contracts! that's says enough

being in a peculiar salary cap situation, i think it was a risk worth taking for the knicks. but giving curry a 6yr/55mil contract that's not insured is a questionable move. that's probably near curry's market value before this heart condition came up!

assuming curry is good to go, his inside scoring will help out the nyk offense greatly. he has great hands and that jump hook is almost undefendable. richardson and crawford will get plenty of good looks from the land of 3.

defensively & reboudning, another story

chicago side of the deal: considering they weren't going to play him until the he takes the DNA test (whether this was the right or wrong stance to take by Paxson, who knows), this was an ok deal. the key was getting expiring contracts and a 1st round draft pick in return.

sweetney is a decent stopgap low post scorer. chicago will have ~$23 million next offseason to use on curry's permanent replacement.

it's also being reported that Davis is expected to be cut by nyk and the bulls plan to resign him then. i think thomas will be traded


overall, i can't say that one team "won" this trade. it's really contingent on eddy being able to play or not.

i think it's clear that zeke is in full mercenary mode. i hope for curry's sake he will take that DNA test privately. i wish him well

I think this is really a win/win situation. Chicago could have done three things with Curry:

1) Sign him to a long term deal. Bad risk for the Bulls, as if he can't play they lose a lot of cap space to get a replacement next offseason.
2) Let him play for the QO. Bad risk for the bulls, because if he can't play they lose him for nothing, if he does play he's likely to have bad blood and want to leave at the end anyway and lose him for nothing.
3) Sign and trade him.

At least with this sign and trade they get something out of it. From the Knicks point of view, who cares about the risk involved, they're not getting under the cap anytime soon so even if he ends up not being able to play the cap space hit isn't hurting them.

Bottom line is the Knicks are in a good situation to gamble on Curry, the Bulls aren't, so it makes great sense for both sides to swap Curry for something. Ignoring the filler for salary cap purposes, Curry for Sweetney, a first, 2 seconds and the chance to swap a first is a lot more than the Bulls would have got if Curry just walked. And this was the only way the Knicks could get a centre like Curry due to their cap situation, so it could be a bargain for them if he turns out to be healthy and motivated to prove something.

It will be interesting to see what Chicago does trade wise this year. They now have a lot of picks to go with their expiring contract (which now becomes TT instead of AD), as well as some good young talent they can throw in. Will they do a big S&T for a star before the dealine? Will they trade up in the draft with their picks? Will they just let TT expire and go shoping in free agency instead? Interesting times ahead.

While I'm still not overly sold on the notion that this trade was a good idea - my knee-jerk reaction is to say it's a bad move on Chicago's part - I can see more good in it after further thought.

For example, I was under the impression that Tim Thomas was signed for several more years whereas I now see his ridiculous contract will come off the books at the end of the season. Obviously that equals cap space which doesn't always equal success in the free agent market and then success the following year, but given the Bulls are starting to build a good young core it's a nice bonus. I suppose I'll give my support to Thomas as long as he's a Bull but I have to admit I've never been a huge fan of his, save for a nice dunk over Terry Cummings in his rookie year.

Giving up AD isn't such a bad idea in the long run, though his stability as a solid veteran and decent production last year are being gambled on a player that has shown promise but is still mostly potential in Sweetney. I guess the bottom line is, they'll have to try and make it work. Kudos to Paxson for snaring some draft picks as well.

On the Knicks side, they've made a really good deal so long as Curry's health holds up and it'll look even better if he starts fulfilling more of that potential. They're probably taking the bigger risk than Chicago right now but the balance will be tipped in their favour if Curry stays healthy and explodes.

I agree that it's hard to pick a winner in this trade because there's so many "what-ifs", though I am disappointed that Curry had to leave. After last year, it's a shame to see the boat rocked.

My pessimistic nature has me believing that's likely wishful thinking, though I'd love to see it happen. If that happens then I believe Chicago would have gotten the best out of the deal, at least until such time that Curry actually does become a Shaq-like force.

davis will come back to the bulls. under the new cba, "gary payton" move requires davis to be on the knicks for 30 days then of course he'll have to clear waivers to get on the bulls

then the bulls could use LLE or vet exception to net him

I've little doubt the Bulls got the best part of this deal:

.From the games I've seen this past years I've this notion of Curry as being a vastly overrated player.

.The Bulls kept Chandler, which will be the next defensive all-star;

.The Bulls will have a heck of cap space to snatch a proper player;

.They got rid of a player that does little else other than scoring, despite having physical gifts to be a bully in the paint;

.He's only efective for 2 quarters due to poor conditioning;

.He's a 6ft11 , 300lbs player that doesn't rebound

.The Bulls don't need him, as they were 1 jumpshot away from outlasting the bullets in last year's playoffs - without him;

.Mike Sweetney will be a Decent Player;

.Just think of this: would you rather have Al Jefferson or Eddie Curry on your team?
