kapono a heat...

Tue Oct 04, 2005 12:48 pm

MIAMI (AP) -- The Charlotte Bobcats will not match the Miami Heat's offer sheet for restricted free agent forward Jason Kapono.

Kapono joins his third team in three years. The former UCLA standout averaged 8.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in 81 games last season with the Bobcats, the team's inaugural year. He also had 35 double-digit scoring games and ranked 13th in the league in 3-point shooting.

"This is a great opportunity for him to play for a team that is vying for a championship," Bobcats coach Bernie Bickerstaff said Monday. "We didn't want to stand in his way and we appreciate the professionalism and commitment he gave to our franchise last season."

In two seasons, Kapono has averaged 6.8 points and 1.8 rebounds with Cleveland and Charlotte. He was drafted by Cleveland with the 31st pick in the 2003 draft before Charlotte selected him in the 2004 expansion draft.

wow. how stacked are the heat offensively? they got that 3 point specialist they wanted.

only problem is, who plays defense? dwade just gets in the passin lanes (gettin better at D, but not considered good yet), haslems a warrior but not really a defensively in-you-face type, posey is the lone established perimeter defender and he was injured for most of last year (does he still have the lateral quickness?), shandon anderson just gives you stincts of 5-10mins max of good defense, we all know payton aint that great at D no more, and diesel just blocks.

how they goin to keep up with detroit and indy's D?

Although Miami isn't that good defensively individually they play good team defense.

Kapono fills a 3 point void but Miami still doesnt have a consistent 3 point shooter in their starting lineup. I can't see Kapono getting too much time. That's why they should have kept Damon Jones.

They needed a shooter after Damon Jones went to a better team....yes a BETTER team
And now they have one....a very shit one - compared to DJ

Kapono is a decent shooter, good guy to bring off the bench to make some jumpers (Y)

I think signing Kapono is a good move, since Steve Smith already retired, the Heat need a good shooter as to replace Smith. Seeing that the Heat are loaded with talents, Kapono will not get much playing time but when injuries occur, Kapono could be useful and he can help the Heat to continue to win games.

Ahh.... The typical one-dimensional white guy that can shoot. Essential for every team's success. (Y)

The Heat are even more loaded now. They get some bench help and a good 3-point shooter. Kapono's a solid player. (Y)

Kapono reminds me a lot of Ginobili, how he drives to the basket and shoots from the perimeter.

whens that extra game their playing again? the one between the heat and the spurs for hurricane relief? screw the fucking season, let that be this year's finals.

Guess it's another year for Dorell Wright to ride the pine. I feel sorry for that kid. He deserves some minutes at least.
