if you had to choose the most storied NBA franchise what would you consider first to name it?

No doubt, the team with the most championships

The most storied NBA franchise....

I guess this is more interesting than the HISTORY "POLE".
Well do your job...judge me!!
And after that i would like to hear your thoughts

You're a very enthusiastic poster who has an aggressive streak and can't spell the word "pole". You're the only poster who's ever declared that they don't have enough posting talent, and I think you could reach the ranks of "irritating spammer" quite easily but I suppose you could also fade into obscurity.

Now that I'm done judging you, I'll give you my thoughts...

I think the most consistantly successful team would be the most "storied" to me... I mean in other sports there's teams who've won ALOT of championships but are always losing these days, but a team like Boston who've won alot of championships and are still somewhat successful (in a sense) would be more "storied' to me. So I guess I'd go with option 4. I'd take consistant succcess over partial success.

Still no talent... bye.

Sun Aug 21, 2005 7:08 pm

That was a nice start!! well i think i will agree with you Jae...you know for me and for all the lakers fans (i think) around the world the last three-peat would be more importand if the Celtics had advanced to the 2002 Finals. And you can see that the Celtics were very unlucky with some players that could make them
stronger and they could take the place of Larry Bird and Kevin McHale (Len Bias, Reggie Lewis, when they retired and be the team that could chalenge the Jordan Bulls of the 80s...But on the other hand you can't play millenium basketball refer always to the teams 60s Dynasty...Lakers had a solid team and their 90s chances for a championship were squandered when Magic retired but they had their team builted from the start and and they took 3 more championships in 5 years and they
were a playoff-bound team in the 90s...i think that LA as a franchise is more storied inspite of the Celtics tradision because of their winning ways even when they hadn't had a championship for years...but this is how I see it.....

Hint: POLL

I like this topic...i can improve my english in there!! :)...

Sun Aug 21, 2005 7:32 pm

What is this topic on about ... hmm, i'll try and interpret it

The most storied NBA Franchise would be a franchise that hasn't been bitchin about shit all the time Plus having a lot of success but also good people and good players.............

something like that (too tired to think.. then why post...)

Sun Aug 21, 2005 9:39 pm

By definition, the most storied franchise would be the one with most illustrious/celebrated past; associated with many stories or tales that have become part of NBA "lore". That, not necessarily having the most championships, playoff victories or playoff appearances, makes a franchise "storied".

Both the Lakers and the Celtics are storied franchises. They've both had some of the most significant players in the history of the game, they've been around for more than half a century and they've won 30 NBA championships between them. One could suggest the Celtics have more history as they're the older team, have more championships, boast an unmatched streak of championships in the 60s and have more players in the Hall of Fame. I think they're the most storied franchise. The Lakers however have been the more consistent team, having avoided long rebuilding periods.

Andrew I can accept that the Celtics have two things that no other team can match anytime soon: (1) The greatest dynasty ever made, (2) Most hall of famers than any other team at the number of 29...If anyone can make a deep search into the Hall he can see that 13 of the 29 HOF was a member of the Boston Celtics of the late 50s or 60s and they are 2 or 3 of them who won just a championship with them and they are CELTICS HOF!! And all the others are from 70s and 80s. What about the years between 1993-2005? These players must have been very good and must had a big impact in the game and i have no doubt about that...But when you talk about a 30 year championship history (1957-1986) even if it is as glorius as it gets you can't compare it with the 14 lakers players whose playing years are presenting the whole 57 year Minneapolis/Los Angeles Lakers history if you include some of the future hall of famers like Kobe and Shaq. Between this two teams there is not better and worse because their history is much more different than each other's.

That's what i think and thats why I didn't include any team names because i want to know what are the criteria of the other fans... :?

As I said, the criteria isn't necessarily a number of championships, rather the fact both teams have been around for more than half a century, have been significant teams throughout NBA history and are at the forefront of so many stories in NBA lore. If you want to look at which team is the most successful, then the achievemebts of each franchise carry more weight. They both qualify as storied teams in the NBA because they each have a rich history. The Bobcats, in contrast, are hardly a storied team as they have a very short history in the league.
