Christie to Dallas?

Postby MiAmI2005HeAt on Sun Aug 14, 2005 2:10 pm

Mavericks, Christie have agreement

DALLAS — Doug Christie has an oral agreement on a one-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks, The Dallas Morning News reported.

Swingman Christie, 35, was a standout at Rainier Beach High School in Seattle. He was waived Thursday by Orlando.

According to league rules, Christie must wait seven days to clear waivers before he becomes a Maverick.

I think this be a great move for Dallas since they will let go of Micheal Finley they should use him as bench guy this would give them a pretty good bench like when they had Walker.Check out more NBA transactions at:http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/sonics/2002439259_nba13.html

Great job by the Mavs on getting Christie. He'll bring great D and experience to the Mavs. He should come off the bench (Y)

Mavs got all the offence they needed and now they just need to find some defensive player who does not need to score a lot points. Christie is the right guy but while the Mavs has many good players, especially Howard, Stackhouse, Terry and Van Horn. Its hard to see Christie can play some decent minutes off the bench. Probably even less minutes than he played for Orlando.

C - Eric Dampier / Didier Ilunga-Mbenga / Pavel Podkolzin
PF - Dirk Nowitzki / Keith Van Horn
SF - Josh Howard / Jerry Stackhouse / Josh Powell / Tariq Abdul-Wahad
SG - Marquis Daniels / Doug Christie / Rawle Marshall
PG - Jason Terry / Devin Harris

That is what the Mavericks roster should look like with Shawn Bradley being retired and Michael Finley being released.

Christie is playing right behind Marquis Daniels, so there is no way Christie will play less than he did in Orlando, Daniels is still young, he will make mistakes. Christie will be there to make up for them, I'm thinking Marquis gets 30 minutes a game and Christie should get the rest.

And even with a young Devin Harris playing behind Jason Terry, Christie can also play at the PG spot if Harris struggles.

if i were Dallas I'd have Stack @the 2 and Daniels off the bench. I'm guessing they are letting Finley go, but if they could trade him they should move on that Finley for Nene deal or at least seek some other big guy.

This is definitely a sign that they will drop Finley....
Christie wont be as good as Finley was for the Mavs but hes better than having a tonne of salary....

I dont think Finley will go to Phoenix anymore, although he might, i just dont see it happening....maybe Charlotte...???

Dallas needed someone who can really defend and well their problem might be answered...I love christie's defensive moves well his forte is to swipe the ball.As for Finley he might end up to Chicago because that is his hometown.
Mapua rules...

Not my rumor.

http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm

Dallas fans seem to think the deal is done.

I would be pretty pissed off. I don't want to trade bigs for an aging 2 guard to come off the bench. The only way I would like this trade would be if there was another trade coming. Also, AJ and Fred Jones CAN'T be included in the deal, because we need them to land a big guy if Bender and Pollard are included in this deal.

I'm sorry, I won't discuss exsisting rumors since they deal with the pacers, and clearly I can't say anything unbiased.

Your evidence is a Hoops Hype article and a thread at RealGm from a guy who's friend told him it'd happen  alright then, whatever floats your boat. It'd be a waste if it happens, I'm not a fan of stunting development with older players (Jones, Granger).

I said rumors, those are rumors.

An article in the New York Post, (If you had actually clicked the hoopshypelink) qualifies as a rumor last time I checked.

I agree with you about Jones and Granger. I would rather trade for someone like Theo Ratliff then for Michael Finley.

I still can't see Indiana having any use for Finley... They lost Reggie and his three point shooting, but they got Fred Jones and Danny Granger... And they get Artest back on the court, so Jones and Granger are already on the bench and adding more to guards into that mix would just be a bad idea. And Indiana got Sarunas from Europe too... I don't see this situation working out so that Finley would go to Indiana.

This just does not make any sense unless there is some other deal in the works as someone pointed out.

I certainly can see Finley going to Phoenix... That would be a great move for him. Finley would get to a team where he would be asked to contribute and be an important member of the team. And he would be doing so for a serious title contender and as a grizzled veteran he would most likely let Marion, Stoudemire and Nash take the credit and be the supporting guy that Johnson refused to be. And not to mention the fact that he is good friends with Nash. The money is not an issue as he still gets a truckload from Dallas, so taking the minimum wouldn't hurt as much financially as it did for Malone and Payton.

Where Finley ends up is up to him... What his motivations are is the biggest question. If he wants to play for a title I most likely see him going to Phoenix, if he is contend with his situation and wants to be an example for young guys and guide them along, I see him going home to Chicago.

It's still all up in the air... Dallas hasn't even waived him yet, so this discussion is being a bit on the "trigger happy" side.

The other idea that has been speculated about is a three way deal involving Fin and New Orleans.

Indiana recieves: Jamaal Magloire
New Orleans recieves: Michael Finley, Anthony Johnson
Dallas recieves: Austin Croshere, Scot Pollard

I know Dallas and Indiana would be all over it, the only question is whether or not New Orleans does it.

I would love to see it done, but I don't see the Hornets having any need for Fin.

NO have no use of Fin, they already have enough players at the two. And with Magloire their best trading-chip, I don't see it happening.

Also, think about how pissed Finley would be. :D

Jr would probably slide to the 3 with minutes at 2 because of Majiuskauskas (spelling aside).

Orleans will not be trading Magloire... He is basically their only good player... This deal will not be happening unless Magloire is really eager and pushing for a change of scenery. And I don't think Finley would go for that deal. And maybe NO will want to have their cap flexibility next summer if they could put out a more convincing performance to attract more capable players. I'm not really sure about the cash situation in NO though, but trading for Finleys contract would certainly kill all of that.
